UPDATE 11/18/06
UPDATE: R.I.P., thread. This thread is officially dead and I'm working on the new expanded thread. Depending on how I predict how successful the new thread will be, it might be a while, also because I have to do a lot of drawings for it. XD.
News
I finally made screenshots of the Gaia Battle System monsters that inspired me to make my own set, as well as others.

I totally forgot that plants aren't allowed to become Tsukumo-gami, since they are after all living things. And no, you can't do dead plants. xD
"DrunkenStyle, what the hell is a sukusumo-game?"
A Tsukumo-gami, you say? Well, basically, if you're familiar with Japanese culture and/or myth, the word would probably ring a bell.
Also, some people wonder what a Bakemono is. Bakemono is Japanese for "monster" or "spirit", so any creature that you see in Japanese folklore and mythology are considered bakemono.
A Tsukumo-gami is basically an object that reanimates into a creature, or a bakemono. If you're not lazy and you wanna read more about the Tsukumo-gami, I provide a quote from Obakemono.com.
The Bakemono Project - Tsukumo-gami
In the animistic tradition of Shintō all living and natural things are born or hatched or sprouted or formed with souls, and even an artificial object can obtain a spirit of its own under the right conditions. While some special objects such as swords are created animate, most instruments and utensils must live, be used, and accrue virtue for a hundred years in order to obtain a soul. Once this happens, if they have not been treated well, these objects can become vengeful bakemono. Called tsukumo-gami, these haunted utensils can partially take on the forms of monstrous humans, animals, and combinations thereof, and storm about the countryside tormenting people.
There are dozens of this particular kind of yōkai recorded, and the famous hyakki-yakō-emaki (hundred demon night parade picture scrolls) of the Muromachi era depict an extraordinarily creative assemblage of monsters derived from objects.
At least partially out of belief in tsukumo-gami, at the end of every lunar year Japan holds Susuharai, or "Soot Sweeping", a sort of ritual spring cleaning. Not only is it hoped that along with the accumulated dust, the haunting impurity will be cleaned away from the household's objects, but particularly old objects are sometimes thrown away in an attempt to remove their dangerous potential from the house. Of course, being discarded often just makes the tsukumo-gami that much angrier.

So anyway, in response to the recent Battle System monsters shown in Otakon, I created a bunch of monsters of my own.
The Battle System concept monster I'm talking about are these screenshots here:

Remember the OMG hat and the Witch Cape? It reminded me of Tsukumo-gami. Whether or not the admins are aware of this group of bakemono, I went ahead and did my interpretations of items that become tsukumo-gami.
Do not steal or use my pics..even though I doubt anyone would xP
-----------------------------------------------------
I start off with the Marshmallow Snowman. It's a monster-like tsukumo-gami that seems invincible, as if it never dies when you attack it. But the truth is, the dog/alligator-like monster is just a puppet to the tiny snowman sprouting from its head. That's where he's most vulnerable.
Next are two smaller Tsukumo-gami, the Mask Ghost Sheet and the Teal Ceramic Mug. The Mask Ghost Sheet would probably wrap around the victim's face and suffocate him, while the little mischievous Ceramic Mug would probably kick you in the balls or the shin or something. I dunno.
Next would be most familiar to Japanese Myth enthusiasts, it's a Gaian version of the parasol bakemono, the Karakasa. Angelic Parasol Karakasa. ;D
EDIT: By the way, it's this is a parasol. An umbrella. Not a ******** tampon. D:<
Last is my favorite, it's a mix of both the Kitsune Mask and the Chyaku Norisu Scarf, resulting in a fox-like creature that can attack with its long red scarf.
New Additions:

Pompetti's avatar inspired me to do this one with the Hard Shell Pack + Elegant Veil.

Sasha doesn't seem to treat her Island Girl Wigs with care. :(

What do you do when you mix the tsukumo-gami for both the Halo and the Dark Halo? A two-faced tsukumo-gami. One angelic side and when you turn around to the other side, it's the dark side. Swish.

Robot Chicken reference, anyone? XP Well anyways. Unlucky Liam got the bad Green Magic Hat. That found a new trick.

Brown Gunner Hat >

It is said that the owner of a Phantom Death Mask mistreated his mask, as well as his face, so poorly that it's become a vengeful spirit. Some people think that it was once a good-natured bakemono, since it wears a sacred Shimenawa rope around its waist, telling of how good the owner used to treat it. Now the rope burns in a ghostly blue flame as a reminder that not everything can remain pure.

The Purple Tea Pot felt like taking a swim. :B

08/12/06: New rule and guideline I just added. :B
Guideline for Creating a Tsukumo-gami:
Okay, so you have the basic idea, yet you're still confused? No problemo. Here's a couple tips on starting on creating a Gaian creature:
- Make sure it's a non-living, non-breathing, non-dead usable item.
It can be anything that Gaia's given us like clothes, bottles, and donation items. The reason a Tsukumo-gami comes to life is because it is an item humans created and used for 100 years. However, plants, buildings, and signs are not allowed unless it's a fake plant. Buildings and signs and website buttons cannot become a Tsukumogami.
- There are differences in Tsukumogami and other bakemono.
A Tsukumo-gami is basically an item that has reached its old age of 100 years. Then it comes to life, right?
That's the difference. An item that is posessed or has magical features is not a Tsukumo-gami. A house that comes to life is not a Tsukumo-gami. They are posessed by spirits or ARE bad spirits named youkai, or demons/spirits.
- Tsukumo-gami come in all shapes and sizes.
You don't have to just add eyes to a wallet and call it a Tsukumo-gami. Take features that you think is a mouth, eyes, limbs, or add your own. If a wallet looks like a head with a mouth, give it a lizard's body and the wallet is its head with teeth.
Make sure the Tsukumo-gami is the WHOLE item itself that's alive, not just the drawing or symbol on the item.
- Conjoined Tsukumo-gami must all have a life of their own.
Conjoined Tsukumo-gami are joined together because they want to work with each other to make a whole. One tsukumogami can't attach a bottle and make it a leg, because the bottle has a life of itself too. However, if a Bottle tsukumogami wanted to conjoin with a Kitsune mask tsukumogami, they can combine each other's powers to become one.
- Like all bakemono, a tsukumo-gami aren't necessarily evil.
Yep. All forms of bakemono, ranging from youkai to tsukumo-gami aren't evil. The misconception in Western culture is that all "monsters" are evil. However, Japanese monsters, a.k.a. the bakemono, aren't evil. Their personality ranges from friendly to menacing, just like human personalities.
