Thread is now open to regular chatting.
Well, even though there's still one survey not turned in, I've made my decisions and there's no changing my mind at this point. First, the good news. There will be no phase three! I have decided on a winner. Now, the bad news.
There can be only one.
All of you are winners, though. The proof of that is in the fact that you passed phase one. Each of you crafted a character who would be a fine addition to the feien universe. So first, I'd like to give all the phase two entrants these lovely embossed plaques as a token of my appreciation.

These placards will be hosted by me indefinitely, and you're free to direct-link on your webpages, diaries, or sigs. You guys are phenominal. I really truly wish I'd personally been able to spend more time with you all, but this was a very hectic week for me.
As you know, I collected comments from everyone. I've cobbled together a little overall summary and included some quotes from the comments. The quotes are all good, 'cause were all friends here, and the summaries reflect both good and bad. There was very little bad, though. You guys just did an absolutely phenominal job.
And now, the conclusion.
I had been really worried about the potential for Phase Three because even after all those pages, I was still grappling with my decision. A few characters really stood out to me, and to my surprise they were for the most part completely different from the characters that stood out to me in phase one.
While it is tempting to give out multiple prize places, I refuse to try and rank you guys any more than I’m already forced to by declaring a single winner. You’re all exceptional writers to make it this far, and you kept a lot of folk greatly entertained for a week, spurning out an amazing 50+ pages of roleplay, which totally blew me away. This wasn’t like those contest threads where you get 50 pages of people bumping and chatting, this was 50 pages of solid roleplaying with some of the most incredible writers I’ve ever met. You all deserve a round of applause for your performances.
But, of course, there can be only one winner. I’m so grateful to you all for your comments, because without hearing what you, the actual people creating this story, were thinking, I would have been clueless. A lot of characters were mentioned in response to question three, but one name jumped out again and again. I was honestly surprised at how consistently this person turned up. Because of this, I’m sure this character is one everyone here would dearly miss were this character not the winner. Therefore, I am pleased to announce that the winner of the first ever Feien Writing Contest is Calico, and thus Nekota-kun.
Not only did he greatly impress everyone as a character, but he also impressed everyone as a person. There were so many comments about his professionalism and demeanor outside the thread as well as within. Congratulations, Nekota-kun, you earned it, no matter how humble and undeserving you try to make yourself out to be!

Quote:
Athena/Luna Artemis: There was one repeating sentiment throughout nearly all the comments, which was simply that you were not around enough. You were noted as being consistent and in-character for the times you did appear, but given the length of time you participated over the course of the week, there wasn’t enough material to determine how well that consistency would hold up in the main feien reality. You really should have been around more.
Bassianus/kamtrouble: Despite not being able to be around most of the week, you really made an impact on quite a few people when you were. Not being around hurt you a bit in some of the comments and overall, but job well done with what you did manage.
Comments: “I really enjoyed roleplaying with him . . . He helped develop my character and created some fun situations, even when he wasn't there.” “I enjoyed what I saw of Bassianus . . . [H]e had a way of inspiring drama. . .” “Bassianus managed to assert himself even without as much screentime as the others. . . Kam’s an obviously very talented RPer. She really did make Bassianus come alive.”
Calico/Nekota-kun: Probably the pair with the most commentary written, and all of it good. You really impressed nearly everyone. And while I said I wouldn’t say anything about the question one answers... a B-!?!? Take a look at your comments and tell me what your fellow roleplayers seemed to think you deserved grade-wise. You actually made a lot of fans of the accents. I found it a bit annoying at first myself but it grew on me... a little. Then again, the writer who brought the Internet the hora tha’ is Neesa can’t tahk.
Comments: “I think that Calico’s personality was consistent and interestind. I particularly like the accent . . .” “[Nekota-kun] had a very unique character in Calico, and had clearly put a great deal of thought and planning into his entry. . . . I find Nekota to be an enjoyable and very professional roleplayer.” “OMFG I love this character OH SO MUCH!!!!1!11!1oneeleven! . . . [A]n excellently played human companion and an excellently played feien, they were both consistent and fascinating. . . . I absolutely adore Calico’s crassness. . . [H]is foul mouth and low wit [were] refreshing and exceptionally original.” “He’s a complete troublemaker, and really fun to watch in action.” “[H]e and his player were an absolute joy to work with, and Calico was a very realized character for the bare week we got.” “Love the accent.” “. . . I completely fell in love with the accent he had.” And there’s lots more praise where that came from as nearly every participant was inspired to the point of writing essays.
Cascati/rosemilk: I have no idea what your smelly, badger-fetish self is doing in this contest. Have some comments.
Comments: “[T]he more I got to know them in character, the more I found myself enjoying my time with them.” “Fantastic time! I adore Casca . . . He had such depth and original personality, and showed it in a perfectly crafted mixture of humor, serious attitude and just plain evil.” “Loved his way with words.” “[P]layed very well . . .” “I loved Cascati.” “Cascati is a fascinating character and I think rosemilk has a great writing style.”
Ganymede/ProdigalDaughter: Easily the most divisive of the comment groupings, people either saw your posts and both liked and disliked things, or didn’t see your posts. I think you managed to confuse everyone, honestly. ^^; You were noted for having a knack for stirring things up, but not necessarily in a good way. Either people enjoyed the trouble or didn’t. There were also cases of enjoying your writing but not your character. I’m still trying to figure out some of these comments myself. sweatdrop Overall, people who saw your posts seemed to find you the most interesting of all the participants. Thus the frequent duplicity of comments: like most any complex problem or situation, you elicited mixed feelings. I personally found what you were doing intriguing but would have liked to have seen more, though I totally understand your lack of time. Despite the lack of time, you made a great effort in your participation and I was impressed by how you contacted me to talk about it, which is probably the most important factor in being a great feien owner. (After personality consistency, anyway.)
Comments: “I liked him a lot. He tickled me pink.” “. . . I enjoyed the Rping we did get a chance to do.”
Kanagi/Trio Maxwell-Chang: Given how fascinating and memorable I found your phase one entry, I was surprised by the number of comments that described Kanagi as uninteresting or not compelling enough. It seems like things from your original entry weren’t coming across, else I’m sure that wouldn’t have been the case. Some felt Kanagi wasn’t explored enough in thread, particularly when compared to some of the, ahem, exploring that was going on, while others felt he had a depth that just wasn’t as easy to see if you didn’t look past his exterior. And on the subject of his exterior, Kanagi’s iciness turned a few people off. With all the extreme characters around him, it seemed hard to him to really carve out a foothold for himself. You did receive rave reviews for your intro posts, though.
Comments: “It was a lot of fun roleplaying with Trio . . . I thought I knew [Kanagi] by a glance and it turns out there was much more in there.” “[Kanagi] was played very well, and my attention was never dropped from reading the things he did.” “Kanagi was a refreshing surprise; he didn’t angst at all, and his player Trio was a complete delight.”
Lineel/Sundragyn: Alas, Lineel was another character who seemed eclipsed by the characters around him. His niceness made him seem rather bland in comparison to all the evil jerks he was surrounded with. People did really seem to enjoy working with you, though. I wish I’d been able to be around more often myself because I personally would have liked to spend more time with you and Lineel. I think you could have brought in some of the things that made your phase one entry one of my absolute favorites and played off them more. There was a lot of positive notice for the dirt phobia, which people seemed to like.
Comments: “Sunny . . . was a complete doll and another nice girl to work with.” “. . . y the end of the contest, I think [Sundragyn] (and her character) had become my favorite RP partners.” “. . . [V]ery well played.”
