November 05, 2005: Some stuff happened (including Memi going home, and getting fetched by Illumin--at night!), but today Memi cooked pancakes for Harmodius, saw Pell-Mell, gave Mintaka some pancakes, saw Byrne and learned his name, and learned from Harmodius that she needed to find Astrogeiton to make him feel better... hmm....
September 20, 2005: Memi goes to the local branch library at Panacea's request, and the goddess does something Memi would be very unhappy with... if she ever found out about it...
September 01, 2005: Memi puts Panacea in the inside of her left arm, just above the elbow, and makes a silly fool of herself waddling back to her room.
August 28, 2005: Memi is seriously freaked out by the fact that Echo is already taking over Zero, and ends up hiding in her room in Illumin's room.
August 27, 2005: Memi comes to the Edelsteine shop for the first time, finds her gem, and gets invited up to Illumin's room (not like that, perv! *smack*)

  • Harmodious:
I have seen Creation, but I left before I could discover Destruction. I am inclined to dislike him, but I did say that Destruction was necessary.
  • Lucius: I am confused. Selfish yet noble. Perhaps I misread him, perhaps I don't want to believe that love means causing pain. What does that mean for what I feel for Illumin?
  • Byrne: He's funny. Haven't really seen too much of him.
  • Eamnonn: He doesn't seem to like me, but that's okay. Not everyone has to.
  • Beryl: She's okay, but she seems to pick on everyone (Illumin and Revei so far, and those are the only people besides me and Zero I've seen her with). I don't know why... It bothers me. But she is a good cook.
  • Melanctha
  • Morpheus: No one deserves to suffer.Much too full of himself.
  • Kaelin
  • Revei: When I saw him, he was having a very bad day. I don't think he minds that Zero has a crush on him.
  • T'Lai (Nev'n): If he expects me to take care of him, he should take care of himself.
  • Illumin: There is a feeling. Two feelings, from two different people, entwined. Both he and his host have been so kind.
  • Khiviance: Love does not understand herself. What hope do I have?
  • Lisana (Eftemie)
  • Evadne (Trivii)
  • Echo (Zero): Zero is way too shy. She needs to stop saying sorry for intruding, sorry for dropping things, sorry for existing at all. Maybe if Revei likes her back she'll stop acting like she's worthless. Ah, Music... Echo... You had to scare her and make this that much harder...
  • Yschadeh (???)
  • Yu Huang (???)
  • Tilion (???)
  • Shenlei (???)
  • Gaia (Pell-Mell): I don't think that girl likes pancakes....
  • Chalybis (Danielle)
  • Calico (Mintaka): Calico knew who Aristogeiton is! Now I know at least what I'm looking for... and she draws well, too!

Abbreviated History: When Memi was ten, she had cancer. She complained that it hurt to sit down, and when she was taken to the hospital--after lengthly complaining, having been told to "suck it up"--where it was discovered she had grade 2 Ewing's sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Her parents immediately went into panic mode, and after a six month battery of treatment, the doctors told them that there was no trace of the cancer.

About a year later, her arm began to swell and was tender to the touch. Memi liked to play hard, and so no notice was taken for a week. At that point, she had an appointment and it was discovered that the cancer was back, and growing fairly rapidly. For the past couple months Memi's been kept in a cramped, sterile world of hospitals, medication, vomit, and fatigue. She snuck out one day, and... well... the rest is her history and Panacea's future.

Asclepius Curator
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Asclepius came with a sprocket order that Memi made from a Moorgahaine's Emporium and Forge catalogue, completely unaware that its owner was a full god in his own right. Still, that may or may not have anything to do with how she acquired him. He came to her free of charge, pre-named, and with a matching staff.

Memi used to call Asclepius "Asky", and he hated it. A lot. Now that she's been missing for a year, he's willing to accept that irritation.

He views himself as the most senior of the goddess' companions, and takes care of those without sentience. He has taken the epithet "Curator" because he has quite the menagerie to manage!

Gisli
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Gisli showed up on Panacea's CFA Corvi doorstep very early in her stay there with nothing on but a crude leather collar. The little felin was mistaken by the naive goddess as a felinoid child, and not a fully grown pet. She is still having issues with thinking Gisli is sentient and can understand and respond, and gets unfortunately quite fed up with the cognitive dissonance.

Panacea was once very different than she is now.

For as long as she taught intelligent species her craft, the rule for her followers was simple: do no harm, by action or inaction. Those who practiced her art were allowed to accept payment (else they would likely not be practicing for long), but they were forbidden to refuse treatment if one who requested their aid could not pay. Panacea always provided for her followers if they followed her simple rules, whether in her full deific glory or using slightly more subtle methods.

She would also test her followers, coming down in various pitiful forms with injuries or diseases. If they acted in accordance with their vows and her teachings, she would give them knowledge or other--shinier--rewards. If they did not, she would curse them in various ways.

Times changed, but they changed slowly. As Panacea tested, she found she was punishing more and more often, as those who had received her gifts demanded money for the skills granted by the goddess. This came to a head at Geldri, an ancient center of learning, where she could find only a single practitioner in the entire city who was willing to treat her in the absence of money.

She turned her face from Geldri, and opened its gates to plague. Not everyone died, but the disease seeped into every pore of the city, and Geldri's foundations and shining towers were left to rot to dust.

That is how she faded from the world; not with a longing sigh, but a frown of embittered disgust.

As far as personality goes, Panacea was cold and uncaring to practically everyone, and opened up mostly for Harmodius. Everyone had to love her. Everyone had to need her. And everyone wanted Memi more.

So far, Memi has made her home in the sanctum of Illumin.

Left: Madiha hasn't actually .... entered continuity yet. But isn't she pretty???
Right: A faerie about a foot tall named Georgie. Rather obsessed with order--kept by paralyzing anything that moves. Length depends on how large you are compared to her. The room's insect free, though!

The day that Memi grew up (with a lot of help from Panacea), Illumin had planned on giving her a gift. Instead of giving it to an eleven year old, he gave his gift to an eleven year old in a sixteen year old's body. Much awkwardness and blushing and teen-like angst ensued.

A shadow demon named Sesostris came to seek Panacea's help. That day, she couldn't help him, but he had come bearing gifts! Unable to give the offering to Panacea as he intended, Memi got her gift first. Guys like giving girls jewelry, I guess!

Sesostris also came bearing gifts for Panacea: two vials of gorgon's blood. From the left, the blood was a fatal poison; from the right, it could bring the dead to life. Very potent, and it will be a help to Panacea as she struggles to regain her power, as well as being a reminder of her past. Now, where can I find a gorgon to replentish this...

Top Row: Blood, Chemical, Cleaning, Data, Disease Sprockets
Middle Row: Flesh, Hope, Life, Magic, Mutation Sprockets
Bottom Row: Oil, Pain, Toxic Sprockets

A bunch of sentient elemental batteries. They are remarkably subdued for sprockets, but all have personalities based on their elements. Each one adores Panacea, but not quite as much as Illumin's sprockets do him.

Panacea also possesses a stethoscope (OOC gift from Moorgahaine), a vial of two deadly poisons (OOC gift from Moorgahaine), a mortar and pestle made of brown stone, a pair of cleavers (for when that limb just has to go), and a set of scalpels (OOC gift from Thabara).

When Panacea Came to Geldri (a work in progress, by maskedquerade)

On occasion, Panacea took it upon herself to test the faith and humility of those who practiced her holy skills, for though it was a difficult thing, she allowed her proxies no pride, for all knowledge and skill of the healing arts came through her, and she could sour even the most skillfully crafted elixir with a fleeting frown.

In particular, she decreed that even those poorest of poor be served, to further the admiration of Medicine in all forms, and to prevent plague, for in squalor does disease thrive.

On this day, she took the guide of an old woman, hobbling painfully and covered in sores oozing pus and blood. She entered Geldri from the east, a wondrous center of knowledge in the olden times, and cast about for a doctor.

The university had walls of white and gold that soared up almost to the sky, and it's minarets sparkled with rubies and topaz. She entered through the gate of sapphire, and found a Doctor, scrubbed and clean.

"Oh Doctor, oh Doctor!" cried Panacea in disguise. "May I have some balm for my aches and boils?"

"Can you pay, old woman?" the man in his white robes asked.

"Nay, good Doctor, but I will be your servant."

The Doctor turned his back. "Get thee gone, hag, and take your stench with you."

Panacea exited the university, and found a hospice, low and built of granite, light and clean. She entered under its wooden lintels and found a Midwife, scrubbed and clean.

"Oh Midwife, oh Midwife!" cried Panacea in disguise. "May I have some balm for my aches and boils?"

"Can you pay, old woman?" the woman in her apron asked.

"Nay, good Midwife, but I will be your servant."

The Midwife turned her back. "Get the gone, hag, and take your pus with you."

Panacea left the hospice, and walked the city streets. Her arts were practiced throughout the city, and not a single one of her servants would offer an unknown old woman relief from her aches. She turned her face to the west and began to walk to the gate, but a young man ran up behind her.

"Grandmother, grandmother, you look in pain. Come with me and have some balm for your aches and boils." He took her by the arm and led her to his hut, made of mud and straw and collapsed in a corner by rain. He plucked an herb from his garden and ground it in his mortar, and smeared it across the old woman's boils. Beneath the balm freely given the old woman's wrinkled skin grew smooth and taut, and her boils vanished, her body giving off the scent of sweet herbs freshly mashed and powerful tinctures prepared.

"Child, your faith is admirable and your skills great, so I grant you three boons. The first is that of knowledge: there is an herb that grows in the desert to the west, one holy to myself and bearing the name Panacea. It may be prepared as a poultice to heal any wound, but it puts forth tender leaves only once a year; in unskilled hands it is the deadliest of poisons. The second is that of skill: your elixirs will never fail to heal, and should you need them, they will never run out when freely given, save the Panacea. The third is that of life: take your family and flee before nightfall, else you will perish with the rest of faithless Geldri."
