Hello everyone, I just had my Request accepted. You might or might recognize my Username as the Character of a Book. She is from the Sword of Truth Novels, written by an Author who was inspired by Rand/Objectivism. Thus, me being here. smile
I don't really want to get into much about myself. But it is nice to meet you all.

Hello. *waves* I do recognize that name. I've never read the series myself, but I know two people who are reading them and they've told me a lot of good things about the series - perhaps a bit too much though. They keep spoiling what happens for me even as they try to recomend reading them to me. By the time I get the chance to read them, I may as well not bother most likely because 'll have already heard the whole story from them at the rate it's going.

"I want to see, real, living, and in the hours of my own days, that glory I create as an illusion. I want it real. I want to know that there is someone, somewhere, who wants it, too. Or else what is the use of seeing it, and working, and burning oneself for an impossible vision? A spirit, too, needs fuel. It can run dry." -- Kay Gonda of Ayn Rand's play, Ideal

kay gonda hello, fellow objectivists! Capitalize the O. Always. Otherwise some wierdo might think you're talking about the specific moral opposite of opponent of relativism, or the school of anthropology/archaelogy, or the school of poetry. Not much danger of it in here, but there are places.... biggrin

Note: Claiming to be an Objectivist will not make you one. Student of Objectivism? I suppose I can take your word for that one.

KahlantheMotherConfessor I hear/read you're an Aspiring Author?
Indeed. Though I don't plan on even trying to get anything published until I've graduated college. ninja
Also, to the post two above me -> 3nodding (This is why I have never once yet called myself an actual "Objectivist." I'm still working on it and don't think I can yet trust myself to do it right and thus actually be what I profess and not to just muck it up and possibly spread around a lot of false ideas about what Objectivism is. Heh, the day I know I'm ready to really call myself an Objectivist (and I think on that day I'll state the pledge from Atlas ;3 ) is up there with as one of two or three nearly epic, possibly (but I seriously hope not, because that means I've got an entire lifetime of phail and never having reached some great potentials for myself) mythical days I get to say some very satisfying things. )

Heh, the day I know I'm ready to really call myself an Objectivist (and I think on that day I'll state the pledge from Atlas ;3 ) is up there with as one of two or three nearly epic, possibly (but I seriously hope not, because that means I've got an entire lifetime of phail and never having reached some great potentials for myself) mythical days I get to say some very satisfying things. )Lol that's why I make it clear to those who need to know that I'm more aligned with Kelley's side in the Objectivism split. So no one gets the idea that I agree with every word that ever came out of Rand's mouth, both to save Rand a lot of posthumous misinterpratation and to save me a lot of misinterpretation too. It is acceptable to allow the ideas of one person to define what a "Randian" is, but a word like "Objectivist," is broader- It makes disagreement difficult, because every disagreement has to be rooted in reason, but everything except the fundamentals (Kelley laid out some of them, I think measurement-omission needs to be added to the list however, keeping concepts in the list demands you have reference to how concepts come to be considering they are a product of volition) is not a part of the definition of Objectivism. Anything correctly derived of course cannot be disagreed with by someon honestly calling themself an Objectivist unless they make a mistake (which is still possible) although if in fact they are one they should quickly correct that, but the fact of a disagreement with Peikoff does not in itself indicate that you are not an Objectivist. Especially considering how many things Rand has said that Peikoff forgot all about, some of which had some damn good reasons and should not have been forgotten. Napoleon sticks a pin to Israel on the map and challenges Peikoff to explain again why we should continue giving away money to a socialist state, and why we should continue giving them, of all things, our moral sanction just becausethe guy next to them doesn't deserve it either. You claim military necessity, but have you any idea? Pouring money into a colony that your enemy surrounds doesn't help much, especially when you don't control that colony and you have a much bigger territory where you are. You don't defend the lesser of two evils, you attack the greater.
Napoleon stops yammering biggrin

Agreeing with everything to come out of her mouth I think would be an idiot and could never correctly consider themself an Objectivist anyway. lol At that point you've clearly crossed over from being your own rational individual to being a faith-based unthinking puppet (of a no-longer existent and would have been unwilling master at that. )
