I don't know what the point of this guild is. . I never read the book these people are talking about so I'm a little clueless. . . does it have to do with God or something along those lines.??

It has absolutely nothing to do with God, but it has everything to do with that which exists.
It's rather disorganized, but it appears to be intended as a forum for discussion of Objectivism and the novels of Ayn Rand, one of which (Anthem) has its complete text posted in a sticky here

"Who is Ayn Rand?" Hehe I smell a novel's plotline... but i digress.
She is the one who established that you have an absolute right to exist.

So this guild is for her? Ms. Ayn Rand fans? Or is it a guild for "the right to exist?"

You can post your own stories if you want, I'm sure no one will mind biggrin Quote: . . Why would she say we all have the right to exist. We already do exist so whats the point in saying it. . I guess she means you cant take somes life or something. . Oi, I'm just going to have read the story. *sigh* We already do exist do we? True. But, for thousands of years existence has been damned as evil, and philosophy existed almost exclusively to the end of shortening it. Rand reversed that trend.." Perhaps I should have said "right to exist for your own sake," so you could see the controversy more clearly.

Yay, another Randoid ready to over compliment Rand and demonize all other philosophy at a drop of a hat. Did you see the light? Did you feel born again after being baptized with the water from the Fountainhead?

Did you feel born again after being baptized with the water from the Fountainhead? Fountainhead didn't make me "Randroid" as you called it, or any of her other novels, I had to read through a lot of nonfiction too long before finally being convinced. And I did not demonize "all other philosophy," if you read my post I said " almost exclusively" There have been some philosophers previous to Rand who were worthwhile biggrin

Hmmm this is the first I have heard of this philosopher. Although my curiosity has been aroused and I am going to stay around for a little and try to learn more. I am guessing the point is to discuss their views and ideals? And the books are used as references and our source for their ideals?

You could do that, sure. 3nodding Though this guild doesn't have any specified aims, so short of breaking the TOS you can do pretty much whatever you want really and nothing will happen.

Napoleon_Danneskjold "Who is Ayn Rand?" Hehe I smell a novel's plotline... but i digress. She is the one who established that you have an absolute right to exist. "Who is John Galt?" Damn, I missed that line/expression! By browsing through other posts in this guild, clearly, one cannot fully understand Ayn Rand's philosophy 'til one has really read any of her works. I tried explaining it to my bestfriend for years, but until she really finished reading the book I lend her, she wouldn't fully grasp it. Btw, I know Anthem is not copyrighted and that's why it's posted in this guild. But is it okay if I also post some articles/essays by Ayn Rand? I do have a lot.
