I've been made crew and given specific license to do whatever I want short of messing with the Anthem sticky.
So any ideas of what needs done around here? Should I ban the marxists? biggrin

So long as it is made clear that that will now be consistent guild policy, doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. Though I'm curious what inspired after all this time a promotion to be made. (And what you'll be doing in the subforum all by your lonesome. razz As the first promotion, I counted all the other crew posts and they are all in the main forum, so it is empty.)

Apparently the cap'n thinks I'm "tough," as written in the reason for the promotion. Which seems like a green light for this biggrin ... I did a test ban of the guy with Marx in his siggy, and told him to pm me if he wants to challenge it, though I doubt he will... only the one post biggrin

Interesting. Well, have fun with, and perhaps good use of, your mod powers. I doubt you'll get a challenge on that ban too though. *imagines the uncharted forest being spamed up with pages of subtitled cat pictures now just for the heck of it* lol

Heh, yes. That's the cats that would be in there.
But certainly we do not advocate people to all be:

Yup, I was just about to say I spied another promotion on the front page. (Speaking of which, that's a nice little bit of writing in his other thread. I didn't really have enough to say about it though to make it worth creating a new post to say so there though.)

How about an original work posted here, bluecherry? Because we all know how hard it is for a gal to get to Atlantis. But then again, I guess it's only the uncharted forest.

You know, not a bad idea at all and I've considered it, but I don't have many completed works since I don't do many short stories. Most of my ideas have been in the past of multiple novels in length to play out. My last short story I did complete but it is about two years old and was written in a hurry for a class project. So while it isn't bad, it is a little outdated in skill level I believe. However, I have been aiming to do more short works recently so I can get more stuff done which will have their own usefulness to me. However now I've been insanely busy for the past month and a half or I would write a new one to post. Actually, had I not been so busy I'd have spent all last month doing Nanowrimo. ninja So for now I do have that older short story I could post if anybody is interested (I posted it elsewhere shortly after first writing it so I can get to it even with my computer trouble) and I will probably have enough time that I can write something new again over winter break. 3nodding I haven't gotten to do enough writing as it is anyway lately and another extra reason to get to it doesn't hurt to be sure (a good audience when I have no editor can be good for catching things I may have missed even after a couple read throughs.)
By the way, so long as you aren't the one who decides, how do you know what the criteria are for promotion here? I don't know what the exact grounds were for deciding to promote you, but from what Napolean said, his given reasons didn't have anything to do with writing. So what extra information are you possibly holding out on? razz
Also, if not cat picture spam, what is it you two do in there (if anything is in there yet) that I should want to get in on? Haha.

Anyway, we can do anything we want. There is no official guild mission or even rules aside from what the moderators at the time decide to do, if anything at all. I know I won't be doing much aside from some inviting because in just a month, I will be doing a year long's training with little chance of getting online. I'll have to use a satellite phone connected to my laptop to get online at sea. Whatever the active moderators organize (seperate, or together) is all this guild will be doing as far as being an actual guild goes. I fear for that first month when this becomes a heavily kitten themed guild with only Napoleon conducting. As for becoming a moderator, I think it has to do with a clear top priority of Objectivism on Gaia, so I don't think you'll really get it, bluecherry. But I want to see your story. smile
What's in the wilderness though? It is not for weaklings, that much is obvious. I'll leave the amazing subforum's content a surprise you can eternally anticipate.

True, I've been on Gaia and established various activities and interests and things I do on here years before I heard of Objectivism, so because of this at least in part I have never seen Gaia as a place primarily for me to be using for Objectivism related purposes primarily. Though I do use it for that too when I see topics of particular related interest and this, Gaia, was the first place I started looking around for other people associating with Objectivism after I read The Fountainhead and Atlas shrugged (and didn't find anything really at the time unfortunately. Though that was when I found an older guild that contained all of Anthem, wherever that went.) I do seek out and heavily engage in weightier matters on Gaia, though I tend to more often use Gaia as a place for relaxing and taking a break after doing my mental exercises for the day earlier on in the day offline. It's kind of a split between when I'm willing and able and what is around for when I use Gaia for work or play (though the two can easily combine, when I use "play" here, I mean it as a more leisurely resting sort of thing.) I probably would do more to actively combat ignorance and/or evil to the extent possible (or just speak what good I know for those willing to listen and consider it, best case scenario finding they are not in fact the last sane person in the world) in my time here though once I've tackled managing the goings on of my day to day offline stuff so I'd have more inclination left by the time I got on here to keep going and "fighting the good fight" as the saying goes while I'm here. Also even more than that though is before I'd want to really do a lot to try to work on this is I'd want to make sure I knew the subject more thoroughly. If I'm going to speak on a subject, I like to be pretty darn sure I know what I'm talking about before I open my mouth - or start typing in this case. On my list of things to do once this semester ends and I'm on break is to get copies of Atlas and Fountainhead and atleast one or two of the nonfiction books by Rand to refresh my memory and further expand upon some on what I'd already known, suspected, forgotten, remembered, etc . . . Once I've done some more reading (and re-reading) and gone back over it in my mind double checking things and considering, reconsidering and so on, then I can speak more clearly and surely on it.
Or to clarify all that if it was a bit muddled: I've been on Gaia for a long time and use it for many things, both for Objectivism directly related things and other things. I would speak more about Objectivism while here, and want to, but first I'm still working on balancing out some stuff in my offline life so I'll still be sufficiently lucid for large discussions and topics of substantial matter by the time I get on Gaia late in the day and I intend to get to be more well versed on the subject before I go out and really speak on it a lot. While it will almost surely never be my ONLY purpose on Gaia, I'd very much like to, and most likely will, have it become a bigger part of what I do here in the not too distant future. Moderator or not. razz
You're going out to sea for a while? *gets slightly altered images of Gail's getaway boat trips in mind* Well, may you surpass even your own likely high goals for the trip while you are there and I'll remind Napolean that it would be wise to clean up after those cats while he's running the place alone again so the forest doesn't become a giant litter box. wink
I’ll go get that story and post it in a new thread. I may have an early version of it posted though on that other site and will do a little re-editing to it before posting it here (I did some later editing to it after I turned it in for a grade, but that was in the word document and the post of it may never have been edited.)
