The depths of the oceans and seas will no longer remain a mystery, swore three marine biologists. They were each young, eager genius' that wanted to change the way marine biologists explored the depths of the sea and ocean. They wanted to do it without submarines, but with people. But, experimenting on humans was illegal. So, they took their practice into secret. They spent nine years perfecting their ideas and performing test runs on animals before bringing in humans. To get test subjects, they took three orphans. Each scientist adopted their own, going in at different times so that no suspicion landed on them. They took each of the orphans to their lab and began their experiments on them.
Each experiment was more painful and gruesome than the last. First, they had to change the subjects' structure, so that they could adapt to the water. That alone took two years to complete. The next experiment placed on them was one to enhance their lung strength so that they were like whales and dolphins; they could hold their breath for hours without needing oxygen. But the first experiment went slightly wrong; so that they couldn't stay above water for more than ten minutes without their skin drying out so much that it would flake and fall off. The newest experiment that all three would be apart of would be for their bodies to withstand a large amount of pressure so that they could dive down to the bottom of an ocean. But before that can proceed, each scientist has decided to give their specimen one special adaptation. One certain ability that one species of ocean wildlife has.
Of course, what they never expected was for the children to have developed a strong friendship with a certain individual. The three children had stayed in an orphanage up until the time they reached the age of seven, so they had time to develop a strong bond with one other orphan, one that they connected to and would always be around. It had been devastating for the two children to be separated, and, after eight years passed, a few decided to check up on the orphanage, the thoughts of their long-lost childhood friends entering their minds. It would be nice to pay a visit to them after so many years, but, the only problem was that they seemed to have disappeared off the face of the planet. The ones who had adopted the children had given fake addresses and names so that they couldn’t be traced. The orphanage had no information on their adopters, who also seemed to have ceased to exist.
Persistent, they began to pursue what had happened to their friends, though it would take years to finally gather enough information to even begin to figure out what had happened to them. Eventually, completely by accident, they each stumbled upon something. It was late at night, so it was barely noticed until after a cup of coffee. But, what they saw was a rejected proposition to begin to perform tests on humans to transform them into mermaids so that they could explore the seas like no one before. As they scanned the paper, they noticed one thing that caught their eye:
"The three scientists proposed that, in order to test their project – which was called project M.E.R.M.A.I.D – that they would adopt three small orphan children, so that no ties of family would interfere with their work. The very idea of doing that is irrational and inhuman…"
A lead had finally been found. The three scientists’ names were located on the same document: Demetrius Atteriab, Alexander McLain, and Rick Bowl. Now the true work began – figuring out if those were the ones responsible for the disappearances of the small children, and to locate the place where the experiments were being preformed.

The setting of this role-play will take place, mostly, in a labratory that is built into a cliff right above the sea, at least half a mile above sea level, a shere drop that would knock a man out cold if he were to jump off, or he would hit the rocks at the bottom and die.
It provides pratically no escape for the experiments, sense they are each held in a seperate tanks within the labratory. The lab is hard to get to, sense it requires a cetain password and key to open the steel door at the front. It's the only access other than the balcony near the lab, which is to far from the cliff face for someone to simply fall onto. Although, one could walk along the top of the lab to reach the balcony, but the material along the top is almost always wet and is extremely slippery.

All righty, I'm putting the rules in paragraph form so you ALL have to read it to see what they are. Muwhaha. Okay, first act of punishment, you have to be literate. Literate as in you type a paragraph per post, at the minimum. I understand writters block, but that gets old after a while and you're all successful writers! Look to the force within you! And grammar and puncuation is a biggie... I don't want to see any little "i"'s unless they are in a word! Yay? Yay. Okay, and disregard the title of the PM at the bottom. I want it to be "Liability Limitation". I want to know if you're really reading my rules!
Next act of punishment, my ratings for this RP. This is PG-16 'cause of violence and swearing. Yes, you can swear, but there is a limit. They can't come one after another like "s**t, damn, ********, son of a b***h." That's a no-no. And there can be romance, of course. Though I highly doubt it'll get much of that. I tend to move my RP's kinda quickly and it has action! action! action!
Something that gets on my nerves; attention hoggers. I won't tolerate anyone putting their character right in the middle of everything on purpose! They will not appear out of the blue and get in the middle of what's going on, and no putting your character in trouble if they're not doing anything exciting at the moment. I understand that this RP will require running around and chasing people - sometimes -, but you can't go "Zoom! Here I am! I'm the center of attention!" No. Didn't I cover this already...?
And here is the common rule: No god-modding or auto-hitting. I will NOT stand for that. Sometimes it's called for, but ask to do it first. Then it's okay, but not otherwise. And if you are going to hit, then you cannot be COMPLETELY impervious to it. Sometimes you HAVE to be hit. You. Are not. A freaky-dikiy ghost.
Okay, here is the one that you're all looking for. I want the title of the PM to be "Thorns and Roses." No particular reason, just felt like including that. If I want to add anything, I can.
Oh! Another couple of things: I want the post sizes to be between 9-10. It keeps the post pretty in my opinion - and speaking of pretty, try to make it look nice. No blinding colours! I mean it! Okay, and I'd like speech to be colour coded too, or bolded. It's up to you.

The C h a n g e r Isis Dawn Glass
The room was dim, filled with only the gental hum of machines running. The only light that filled the room was coming from either buttons on the machines that were running, or the three large tankes that took up most of the space in the labratory. Each tank was large enough to house a dolphin or two, the bottom was filled with sand and multiple large shells. Normally, it would have been normal to see the tanks as they were, but the shells were artificial. The largest shell in the tanks were the ones that held a soft, spongy material that was supposed to be used as a mattress for the occupants of the tanks. Surrounding that shell were large stalks of seaweed that waved in the small motion of the water, creating a kind of curtain for its occupants. The other shells were closed like clams, just there for decoration rather than use.
In one of the tanks, which had a small plate in front of it with the name of the occupant, "Changer," there was movement. The tank was giving off a dim blue glow, just enough for the girl inside of it to see where the tank ended and where the shells, seaweed, and cleaning tube were. The girl inside the tank was swimming around it impatently, her orange eyes moving back and forth from tank to tank. She was restless, obviously. Her fin was the same colour as her eyes, and her hair was a soft blue that nearly blended in with the water surrounding her. She didn't even know her natual hair or eye colour anymore because of the cells that she had been implanted with.
She spun around suddenly, waving her hands near her head, creating a mass of bubbles when she let out a loud groan. Her lungs were starving for air and she needed to surface for a moment to take a breath. The moment her head broke the surface, she began gasping for breath. Quickly, she grabbed the edge of the tank to keep her above the water without using her tail. She stayed at the top until her breathing regulated. Normally, she would have stayed up longer but her skin was beginning to dry out and she needed to get back in the water until it completely dried out.
Sighing sadly, she slipped back into the water quietly, slowly floating down the bottom of the tank. Isis was restless. She was sick of being cramped up in the tank for days on end. Her orange eyes moved towards the large window that replaced the wall on the farthest side of the lab. Even in the dim light from the nigh, she cuold see the ocean just outside of it. Even though she had once been as human as anyone else, she longed to be in the ocean. It was huge, vast, endless. She would never have to be cramped up inside of a small tank, watched and regulated daily or experimented on. She winced slightly when the last thought came to her, wrapped her slim arms around her as comfort. Slowly, her hair and eyes began to turn to a darker blue, while her tail began to turn a redish-orange colour to symbolize her frustration as she settled on teh bottom of the tank, the cold sand the bottom the only thing she could feel. For a second, Isis suddenly realized what Arial from The Little Mermaid felt like, and the thought sparked a hint of rare amusement in her.
"What would I pay to spend a day, warm on the sand," she sang softly under her breath, her special lungs keepign water from rushing into them so she wouldn't drown. It was amazing that she even remembered the movie - it had seemed like another when she had seen it in the orphange the first time. At the time, Isis had been captivated by the movie. Out of all the Disney movies she had seen, that had been her favorite. Something about the way mermaids on the movie had been captured her heart, and she had longed to be one sense then. Of course, if she could now, she would have taken that back with ever fiber of her being. She hadn't had clue when she was little, but now that she was the fabled creature she had longed to be, she wanted nothing more other than to have her legs returend to her. She had lost them when she had turned twelve. She winced again, tighting her arms around herself. That had to of been the worst day so far in this miserable hell.
In her minds eye, she could clearly see the a scientest looking down on her, googles splattered with blood covering his eyes, and his once white coat covered in her blood. She had been sedated when seh first woke up, so she didn't feel any pain, but she knew something had been wrong the second she opened her eyes. When the sedation had worn off enough for her to begin to feel parts of her body, a white hot pain had erupted from under her waist, knocking her unconsious before she even had the chance to scream. When she had woken up again, she was still on the same operating table, hooked up to multiple IV's and a heart moniter. It was then that she finally had the chance to glance down at her legs, to see what had happened to her. Isis could remember the fear and horrfied feeling that had ran through her small body when she saw what replaced her legs: a fish tail. There were banadges around her waist and they were a faint red colour - she was obvious still bleeding from the gruesome operation even after it was done. But that hadn't been what scared her, it was that she was different.
As an orphan, Isis had been told to be the most normal child she could be so that she could get adopted, and she had tried to be. But something had always been off about her, and it was a miracle that someone had adopted her after all. But then she had been ignorant, blinded by happiness as she was taken away with him. And it was then, at that moment, that she realized that she hadn't been taken because she had been normal or special. She had just been choisen from random, and the thought had hurt her more than anything else.
Shuddereing slightly, Isis snapped out of her little trance and gazed back at the window on the other side of the room. She could see the sun raising over the endless spance of the sea, slowly lighting up the room. They'd be awake soon, and her daily hell would commince as it always did.
- Edit. - Flippin' your f i n s, you don't get too far Legs are required for jumpin', d a n c i n' Strollin' along down the What's that word again? StreetUp where they w a l k Up where they run Up where they stay all day in the s u n Wanderin' free, wish I could be Part of that world What would I give if I could live Outta these waters? Nathaniel Hawthorne observed the lab from a distance, looking for a secondary point of infiltration "Security is pretty tight" he muttered "But not the worse I've gotten into" he added "Ah, I think I see an air-duct. Should get me inside" he said, putting his binoculars away. "Time to get moving" Nate said, picking up from where he was, moving to get on top of the facility. "Not much of a choice in entrance point"

Isis traced her finger around in the sand, creating a small circle in it. It quickly disappeared because of the slight water pressure around her, just falling back into the normal look of sand. Her dark blue hair was floating around her and her tail was flicking slightly, the tips of her fins were a dark red, nearly the colour of blood and it faded into a soft orange as it came to her waist, where the scales molded into her skin, seamlessly connecting with it. After years having it, she was finally used to its feel, and how to control it, in a sense. Fish on the tv made it look easy to swim with it, but she had to go at a slow pace so she didn’t run into the walls, and if she used too much force, it would send her straight into the wall. And sometimes, her mind told her that she still had legs and she would try to move her tail in two different directions. Isis suffered from phantom limb syndrome occasionally, and it was a rather odd experience to feel it.
She sighed lightly and glanced up, letting her mind drift back to when she was at the orphanage. She could remember her best friend – Nathaniel. He had been such a wonderful kid, always playful and ready for anything. She could remember that he was never scared of anything; fearless and brave. She had really envied that when she had been little. He had been so cool, every kid liked him, even the caretakers liked him because of his rambunctious behaviour. A small laugh passed by Isis’ lips, the old, yet vivid memory when they had been taken to a camp – like all the other kids – for a good time to get away from everything. Isis had been terrified by the ghost story that had been told on night and he had helped her get over it. He may have been older than she was, but it never seemed to bother him. She missed him terribly.
Another light sigh passed through her parted lips, bubbles raising to the top of the tank. Her tail was starting to loose its red and orange twinge and slowly turn into a dark blue, like her eyes and hair.

At the moment, Nathan was repelling down the side of the lab, towards a visible balcony. "Here we go" he muttered, setting down, unslinging his silenced M4. "Let's see what's inside" Nathan said to himself, slipping inside. Nathan found himself in a large room, with several water tanks "What are they doing here?" he muttered, flipping down his infrared goggles, turning them on "Something in that one tank..." Nathan said, slowly approaching the tank that Isis was in "The changer" Nathan whispered, looking at the girl in there "Wait a minute..." he said, something dawning on him "Isis? Is that you?" he asked, slinging his M4 over his shoulder, flipping his infrared goggles "What have they done to you...?"

Isis' looked up quickly, her hair, eyes, and fin changing to a shock of yellow in a matter of seconds once she heard the new voice. It wasn't Demetrius', Alexanders, or Rick, and it sent a flutter through her stomach. And she had heard her name. Her actual name, not the name she was given because of hte project.
Her yellow eyes widened slightly she slowly moved from the sand bottom, crawling towards the tank wall. "How did you know my name?" she asked, putting her hands on the glass, her hair fanning behind her like a halo. She bit her bottom lip softly at his question, her eyes looking down to her tail, then back to him. "Who are you? I've never seen you before."

"Isis, it's me, Nathan" Nathan said, placing his gloved hand on the glass. "From the orphanage" he added "Don't you recognize me?" he asked, pulling off his helmet. "I shouldn't have left you alone" he added. "Shouldn't have joined the army" Nathan stated "You needed me more"

Bella heard something outside of her tank. She cowarded in her shell bed thinking that it was the scientists. But then she heard someone speak Isis' actual name. Bella looked out from behind her seaweed inclosure. She saw someone standing outside Isis' tank. She kicked up the sand so that she would have a cover to go closer. She kept doing this until she could nearly touch the glass. Once she was up near the glass she forgot to kick up the sand, and it began to settle.
Bella looked from the man to Isis. "Have you come for us?" she asked in a siren like voice.

"Nate?" she asked soflty, her eyes scanning his face as he took off his helmet. They widened again, it was him. He had grown up so much after the army, but she was so relieved to see him at all, a rare brilliant smile appeared on her lips. "Nate!" she shouted, then covered her mouth, glancing in the directions that the scientests always came from, then at Bella as she heard her voice, then back to Nathaniel, dropping her hand from her mouth and put it back on the glass, on the other side of his hand. "How did you find this place? It isn't supposed to exist." She tilted her head to the side slightly, her eyes taking on a light blue twinge.
She opened her mouth to say something else, but stopped short. She needed air again. She held up her index finger, the universal sign for "one minute" as she swam up the surface, taking a breath. But instead of dropping back down immediatly, she moved over to the edge to look down at Nathaniel, her hands clasping the edges of the tank. "Did you come here for us?" she asked, nearly mimicing Bella's question.
