"Ain't no sunshine when he's gone"
I let the song pull my mind from the stark blue sky out side the window. Walking into the guest bed room, I hit the bump that marked Eliot rump.
"It's not warm when he's away."
"get up, your going to miss your flight." He mound, and raised his head, his arms made for my waste, but I walked out of his reach, leaving the room.
"Ain't no sunshine when he's gone,"
"your all packed, you stuff is by the door. Grab a bagel if you want." I waved my hand towards the table as I took my place back by the window.
"come on Rendell, I'm gona be gone for a wile, don't you want to give me a better goodbye than 'grab a bagel ?'"
"And he's always gone to long, any time he goes away."
"no."
"Aren’t you going to miss me. I know your worried about the job."
"Wonder this time where he's gone"
"I never worry, and I am not going to miss you." Eliot came up behind me and placed his arms around my midsection, pulling my form to his.
"Its just some patrol." I didn't respond. Just kept looking at the Bight sunlight sky that went against with the pianos soft notes. Eliot kissed my cheek, then left my side.
"Wonder if he's gonna stay."
I didn't look back at him as I herd him pick up his bags. Not once, as I herd his squad mate yell over the front door intercom.
"and this house just ain't no home, anytime he goes away."
"see ya latter babe." The door closed with a snap. I felt my through get tight and I went to the windowsill at the front of my apartment that served as my widows walk. From their I could see him get into the big SUV.
I curled up their as I watched them shove his bags into the car and final checks were made.
I put my head on my knees as they pulled away,
"and this house just ain't no home
anytime he goes away."
I herd my self sing along no one herd me but the bright blue sky.
