I have heard from my friends (who are all obsessed and in love with Twilight) that there is another book about vampires that is so good it competes with Twilight. Now, I don't know if that is true, but they say the Marked, and the rest of the House of Night series is unbelievably good and maybe even better than Twilight. Has anyone ever read or heard of these books?

I'm actually in the process of reading Marked. It is fairly good. Twilight may have some competition

I've read Marked so far and I've got to say it's poorly written, and dynamics between characters is very shocking.
I mean, when Zoey sums up how comfortable she is when she's in a stable. The word poopie is mentionned five times.
Poopie, honestly people.
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. That is a book that deserves to be in competition with Twilight.

Yes, Yes, Yes!
I agree with Lia!
VAMPIRE ACADEMY.
It's definetly right up there with Twilight.
VA isn't completed yet... Blood Promise will be released this July. The unnamed 5th book will be released 2010.

*DROOL!!!!*
BLOOD PROMISE!!! Looking more forward to that than Midnight Sun (Yes I'm still hoping).
No one kill me ok? But Richelle writes better than Stephenie. BUT Steph has much more obsessive characters. (Meaning I obsess over them, I DONT mean that characters have huge dramatic flaws).

Yes, I have heard of them and have read the first 3. They are no where near close to the level of Twilight. First, they are a bit more "scandalous" which I think it is weird seeing as a mother and daughter wrote them together. Plus, the writing and plot are not good either. Basically, I discourage everyone from reading them. I only read them because they are so weird it makes you want to read them. That's the only justification I have. You can read them, just don't expect another Twilight.

Well said Piercing.
I too won't discourage people from reading this series of books. But I seriously found the descriptions of people, plot and everything else in general annoying. But I have read all the released books in the series, because it is addictive. In the sense I can't leave a book series unfinished.

I also wouldn't encouarge anyone to read this series. I hate starting a series and not finishing so thats the only reason I keep reading. I agree with Serenity the people, plot, and everything else in general is super annoying.

I like Aphrodite. But in the first book... i think I remember the authors describing her as gyrating when she danced or something? And the way she introduced herself, it's like, "I'm the top dog here, mess with me and you're going down biatch". And every annoying thing about her.
-.-
And preactically every time Damien is mentionned, so is his gayness, his affinity or his use of long words. WE GET IT HE'S A GAY VAMPIRE WHO LIKES THE WIND AS MUCH AS HE LIKES LONG WORDS!
