Hello people of the GTC. I hope your summer has been going well. Sadly it's winding down (YOU'RE WELCOME FOR REMINDING YOU), but in the thread we've been talking about getting together before summer ends. To do GTC things. It's been suggested that we consider doing a collection of scenes from shows instead of a show and that seems like it might be a promising direction to go with. I'm looking for a) a headcount of people who would be willing to act with us again or otherwise help us out b) suggestions of scenes you would want to see us do -- I'm not looking for a list of every scene you can think of that would work, but rather a few that you personally would really like to be a part of or see. If you give your suggestions independent of everyone else (i.e. ignore whether your suggestion is repeating someone else's) then it might give us a better idea of which are most popular. It seems to be in our best interest if the works aren't obscure and are still entertaining without the context. (ex. Wicked's "Popular" is still funny if you don't know who Elphaba and Glinda are, but Les Mis' "One Day More" assumes you know what's going on in the story.) If you'd like to discuss the details of the "show" in general, we'll continue to do that in the thread.

I'm here and willing to help, depending on what hour of the days we do things. I have a part-time job, and the hours are erratic, so I can't be 100% available, between 9 AM and 9 PM Atlantic Time, Monday through Saturday, and between 9 AM and 5 PM on Sundays.
I don't work most days, though.
And as far as scenes go, I'm a big Shakespeare buff, and I've found a lot of people to be very receptive to the Mechanicals' scenes from Midsummer Night's Dream. It's basically a bunch of workman (bellows-menders, joiners, tinkers) who are trying to put on a play for the Duke and Duchess' wedding. And hilarity ensues, because none of them are very good. xd
We managed to do the whole thing with nine people, but we can make it even smaller, probably. I know we don't like doubling up, but some of the characters are essential, but only have like, 3 lines, so doubling wouldn't be very difficult.

I'm pretty much around all day and most of the night (up to 11 or 12 pm CST). After that, I'm off to work. Still, I can be there for anything.
As for scenes, like I said, pick a scene from out of the different shows you have done or pick scenes from the actual plays. I mean, "As Long As You're Mine" from Wicked only needs 2 people. "Santa Fe" from Rent only really needs 2 people (Angel to set it up and then Collins to the part). "Feed Me" from LSoH can be done with 4 people. You know, pick and choose.
Hell, if you want, I have the entire "Who's on First?" skit that Abbot and Costello made famous somewhere in my room. If you want, I can pull it out and type it up as a script for you. It's not that hard.
Let me know.

Here are some scenes we've done that I think fit this criteria well and I'd love to see us try in this context. "The Stork" scene from Spring Awakening. It's the first scene of that show so it has no context issues and it gets laughs. And it's my favorite show. "If You Were Gay" from Avenue Q. As long as everyone has recovered from the trauma of doing it so much wink It was fun before we got sick of it. "Die, Vampire, Die!" from [title of show], though that might fall into the territory of being too obscure. "Popular" from Wicked. Popular show, fun song.

The Internet is For Porn would be a good one, too. People who don't even know what Avenue Q is have heard that song. xd

I don't know how into this anyone else would be, but I recently saw 'This is a Play' by Daniel MacIvor (I might have spelled it wrong. xd ), and it's an awesome, hilarious play.
It's basically, people putting on a play, while speaking their running mental commentary. "I enter with conviction. I cross right. I am embarrassed because I tripped on my big cross. I am not in my light. I find my light, and begin my monologue. I hope I'm not spitting on the audience".
That sort of thing, all the way through. It's pretty funny. smile

I'm only really looking for individual scenes from popular pieces for this project.

I could suggest a couple more pieces, but I'm not sure if they're what you are looking for.
"A Little Fall of Rain" from Les Miz. It only requires two people (Marius and Eponine(?)) in order to do the scene.
"The Magical Mr. Mistoffoles" (I'm probably spelling that wrong) from Cats. Really only needs one, but you can go two if you need to. The only real problem I see is the costuming on that.
"The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha. Not really from all that popular a play, but if you've seen the Quantum Leap version or heard Elvis or someone else doing, it can be moving.
"Seasons of Love" from Rent. This could be like a closing piece for the show. You know, get everyone up there on stage to do it. The only real problem is syching it up so that everyone is doing it at the same time.
