After reading the introductions post, I wanted to ask people in this guild: In your church, are you a part of a ministry? If so, what one? And if you aren't a part of a ministry in your church, why not?

As for myself, I've been a part of the Youth Ministry since before my freshman year of college (summer/fall of 2009-present...even though I"ve taken a 3 year break from school. Hope to go back this year though). At my church, the youth ministry fell a part after my former pastor was removed from the church and our youth pastor left as a result. We didn't have a youth pastor, or a pastor for a while. Then, once we got a suitable pastor, the youth church was still non-existent because most of the volunteers left with the pastor that was removed. I was asked to help teach the youth with someone who was the 2nd youth church pastor I had who came back after a long absence (I know, this story sounds a little confusing...it's complicated)

Initially, it was rough due to low supplies and volunteers. I originally taught everyone 3-11 years of age. And it was difficult trying to teach to different learning styles and age groups (10 year olds don't dig VeggieTales, hahaha). But the Lord has been gracious! Over time, the children got used to me, I learned how to adapt my lessons to what they could understand, and to NOT TEACH USING ROTE MEMORIZATION, but things they could apply to their lives.

We still have difficulty getting consistent volunteers, but we have coloring paper, crayons, and our imagination and little by little, children are learning truths of God. It is my prayer that they internalize and actually make the step to accepting Jesus as their Lord and savior, and not just go to church because their parents make them.

Wow...long soap box there. But yeah, what is your ministry, and how do you serve?

Hi y'all!
Let's see.. When I am not on the road working and back home, I have been known to teach Sunday school and Bible studies classes to kids between 6 and 12, and have also worked in V.B.S.classes, the nursery, plus our church has a food pantry/kitchen and a clothing closet that I get involved with.
Like I said, when I am back home and not doing my job.
Christian huggles y'all!
Have a great weekend,
~Lyn~

I help teach the adult Sunday school class when the regular teacher is away. He is very involved with his family and they live out of state. I also got to teach our Wednesday Bible study two weeks ago. I am learning but the Pastor seem interested in teaching, so it is working out. I have been doing a lot of personal growth through it. So Praise God!

Why was your Pastor removed?

In all honesty, I'm not entirely certain the EXACT reason why he was removed, but I do know that he was doing things in his personal life that were effecting the reputation of my church (now whether he actually did all he was accused of is a different matter), and to be honest, we never fully accepted him as pastor. His predecessor, who chose him for us so he could retire (he was pastor for 27 years), died, so we ended up with him (I know, this sounds like a soap opera).
Our current pastor we prayed earnestly over, had him, and other candidates do a sermon at our church and we voted him in. He's wrought a lot of nice changes, especially in the realm of church finances and getting people to come to Bible study. Our new Word on Wednesday service (which I love going to because I never get to hear the message on Sun. because I'm there with the youth) is packed and he's a great teacher. smile
