LIMIT BREAK Apocalypse - Genesis summons the magic sigil in a gold color above him by brandishing his sword upwards, its radiance overwhelming the enemy, before he signals to have the sigil blast down prismatic magic from above. This attack ignores an enemy's defence.

CORE PERSONALITY Genesis is a very prideful individual, born from first being raised by wealthy landowners and later due to his accomplishments as a SOLDIER. He has an abrasive personality however, and prefers his own company or the company of his friends. He is also somewhat reckless, as he has no problems with going full-out in an attack. Mix all of this with a passionate soul, and the result is a man who feels strongly, fights with all he's worth, and is either a dangerous foe, or an irreplaceable ally. This has become even more evident since his recovery from degradation and long slumber, as he is willing and able to fight to protect the very world he once raged against.

EARLY LIFE Genesis was born from the Jenova Project G led by Dr. Hollander. Gillian Hewley was injected with Jenova's cells and her cells were transplanted into Genesis to grant him Jenova's abilities. After Genesis's birth Professor Hojo's "Project S," which created Sephiroth, was deemed superior, and Project G was shut down. Unknown to Hojo and Hollander, however, the Project G research would continue in Deepground. Genesis was labelled a failed experiment and was adopted by a wealthy landlord in Banora.
Genesis and Angeal were childhood friends despite Angeal's family being poor. During the Wutai War Genesis envied Sephiroth's fame, and he and Angeal left for Midgar to join SOLDIER. The two became 1st Class and were close with Sephiroth, the only two he socialized with in the company on a personal level. During a training exercise between the three Genesis challenged Sephiroth to a one-on-one duel that escalated to the point Angeal had to intervene. Genesis broke Angeal's SOLDIER sword with his Rapier and the top sliced into his shoulder as it shattered.
Genesis assured the two it was a minor wound, but it worsened rather than healed having triggered Genesis's flawed genetic structure to begin to degrade, and Hollander, knowing the secrets of Genesis's birth, claimed he could heal him. Secretly, Hollander desires vengeance on Hojo and ShinRa and wants to prove Genesis the superior product of the Jenova Project.

AFTER DIRGE OF CERBERUS Genesis was brought to Deepground and the two SOLDIER members, Weiss and Nero, attempted to persuade him to join in their rebellion against the Restrictors, current leaders of Deepground. Genesis declined and sealed himself in a flooded cavern beneath Midgar awaiting the day he would be needed to protect the world in Sephiroth and Angeal's stead. Vincent discovers that, according to Shinra executive Scarlet's private files, the Tsviets were spliced with Genesis's cells and subjected to various experiments to see how they reacted.
Following Omega's destruction, Weiss's body lays in the flooded cavern, which sends out a shock wave that awakens Genesis. Genesis approaches Weiss and tells him it "is not yet time for slumber" and that they have much work to do. He picks up his "brother," spreads his wing, and flies off into the night.
Since his awakening, he has found himself in a much changed world. He has travelled around since, learning as much as he can about what has transpired in the years since his self-imposed slumber, and he wonders if there could be some new threat to the planet. As he does not know of ShinRa turning a new leaf, or of its later reversal of policies, he still distrusts anything about the company. He is also painfully aware that his glowing eyes mark him as a member of SOLDIER, whether past or present. As such, he has taken to haunting the caves of Banora to avoid pursuit and recapture should someone wish to try again with the Jenova project with his 'cooperation'.

CORE PERSONALITY Angeal is moral and dedicated and takes pride in his membership in SOLDIER. He is honor-bound to protect as many people as he can, and nothing can stand between him and his honor and pride. He views the sword gifted to him by his family as a symbol of his dreams and honor, and therefore, to damage it would represent damage to his honor, and he refrains from using it. He has a sense of humor, calling Zack a puppy and calling himself cheap at times. Angeal is an influential member of SOLDIER and many members revered him as a mentor and idol, the ideal SOLDIER operative and SOLDIER's spiritual leader. His influence passes on to Zack. When he learns of the circumstances of his birth Angeal comes to resent his existence, feeling himself a monster unworthy of dignity or honor. He exiles himself from SOLDIER, but even through his self-deprecating talk, he still considers himself a SOLDIER at heart. Angeal has a stronger sense of justice than he lets on, wanting to help the entire planet and save the world from monsters, like the one he believed himself to have become.

EARLY LIFE Many years ago Gillian Hewley worked with Dr. Hollander in the experiment of her namesake, Project Gillian, a branch of the Jenova Project to create a Cetra-human-hybrid. Gillian was injected with Jenova cells (whom Hollander mistook for a Cetra) and her cells were injected into other subjects. Gillian's son, Angeal Hewley, gained her cells naturally and during his childhood, he lived in Banora Village with his mother and a stepfather. His family was poor in comparison to his best friend, the adopted son of the village's landlord, Genesis Rhapsodos. Unknown to both, Genesis was also a test subject in Project G, having gained Gillian's cells via injection rather than naturally like Angeal had.
Angeal joined SOLDIER and was promoted to 1st Class, becoming a mentor and role model for many lower class SOLDIER members, in particular Zack Fair. He wields the enormous Buster Sword, a gift from his stepfather when he joined Shinra, though he rarely uses it for the fear of it gathering "wear, tear, and rust" as he approximates it to a representation of his family's pride and honor.
During a training session in the Virtual Reality Training Room taking on the image of Junon's Mako Cannon, Angeal and Genesis faced the confident Sephiroth, but Genesis wanted to battle Sephiroth alone, claiming he, too, wants to become a hero. The duel escalated and Angeal intervened. Genesis sustained an injury and Angeal donated blood for a transfusion after Sephiroth was told his blood is not compatible with Genesis's.

AFTER DIRGE OF CERBERUS After his death, Angeal spent time in the Lifestream, unknowing of what transpired after Zach's death. Thus, it came as a surprise to him when he awoke in Modeoheim, the site of his death. As the town had been abandoned, he had no idea how much time had passed, and why he was even still alive or how he came back. He decided to go and investigate what happened, all the while trying to figure out everything that changed, and how exactly it affected him, as he still believes himself to be a monster.
