They call it Terra Mortis. A world which exists outside of our universe, outside of the rules and laws of our universe. It exists based upon but one element: fear. Terra Mortis is a world populated by beings now known as "Horrors", beings birthed from our own imagination and fears. In short, Terra Mortis is a world straight out of a horror movie, to be exact, every horror movie imaginable. Zombies, slashers, supernatural beings, terrifying extraterrestrials, all existing in one world, often times hunting down the ordinary human beings that also populate that earth. The world populated by Horrors is not a forgiving one, it is a world where your life can end at any moment. You can stumble upon a vampire at night, you may awaken the next day to find your town overrun with zombies, your neighbor could be a psychopathic killer. Not only do beings such as this exist, but they are, in theory, immortal. They can be killed, maimed, or wounded... but a Horror will always come back for the "sequel".
In hindsight, it was only a matter of time before humanity found a way to twist such twisted beings into something much more... terrible. Humanity, with its advanced science, would discover Terra Mortis. In a surprising turn of events, Earth was not overrun by the Horrors. In fact, Earth's scientists were responsible enough with the machine to ensure the Horrors never made it to Earth. Over the years, the Horrors were studied. In an effort to contain the Horrors, or perhaps cope with their very existence.... the Horrors became attractions. They were captured and sent to "The Theater", a prison specifically tailored for Horrors. From The Theater, Horrors would be set to battle each other for the entertainment of million world-wide in a show known as "Super Ethical Horror Theater 3000". The show, which typically broadcasts Horrors gruesomely killing each other, seemed to resonate with the darkest, most violent parts of humanity. In other words, it became one of the most watched shows in television.
The show brought in ratings, and merchandise. Practically everyone involved with the program became rich, it became an overnight sensation. The show was first only in Canada, but over time it would begin to be broadcast worldwide! The Horrors would grow to have fanbases, reporters would specialize in following Horror Theater just like reporters would specialize on sports. Despite their new-found popularity however, the Horrors are still prisoners. These beings are too dangerous to be set free, so they were forced to live within the prison known as "The Theater" whilst they murdered each other to the pleasure of millions world wide. Understandably... many Horrors are terrible, evil creatures... and in many ways all Horrors are vile by human standards. But there are Horrors resembling somewhat decent beings, with human emotions. With death being such an alien concept to most Horrors, their murderous nature is atrocious to us, but perfectly acceptable to them. They are being prisoners for simply being born as Horrors.
The Theater is run by a mysterious individual known as "The Director", whom not only runs The Theater, but the show itself. The Theater has limited resources provided to its prisoners, resources such as food and comfortable living conditions are made only for Horrors who happen to grow in popularity on the show. The top draws of the show live lofty lives while others live under terrible conditions. The Director's rule is absolute, any who stand in his way was subjugated to a fate worse than death. To him, the Horrors of The Theater are his playthings.
The Horrors now have but two options: put on a great show and live a comfortable life... or fail to do so and live in the disgusting underbelly of The Theater.

From the Terra Mortis lore page
So, one of my recommendations for this subforum was that you can do prequels and maybe even origin stories for your Horrors here. So obviously, Terra Mortis is going to need to be explained just a bit so you can all work within the bounds of lore. Now, instead of trying to write another dry-cut lore page, I'm just going to cope and paste ny answer from the FAQ. Why? Well I've noticed that this information is much more accessible when it's just written casually like I'm trying to explain it. I will also attempt To drop some additional random pieces of lore that you can mention, at least to add some spice to your stories if need be. Quote: Okay, so this is probably going to be very complicated, so if you have any follow-up questions to what I'm going to say please just ask away. First of all, I'd like to say that pretty much everything is structured in a way to give you as much creative freedom as possible. The initial idea for this RP is "a battle Colosseum for horror stuff" and I wanted to make it so anybody could make anything that fit without worrying about what other people already did that may be similar. Terra Mortis is an "alternate world", so I'd say its probably more of an alternate universe. It basically exists off the fear and nightmares of mankind, which is simply a power source for it to exist. Have you ever played or at least heard of Kingdom Hearts? That's essentially how Terra Mortis works. It's not so much a single world as it is a collection of pocket dimensions varying in size. So really, it's a world of many smaller worlds, and each of these worlds can be thought of as "horror movies". What I mean by that is that usually each planet is specifically geared towards one story or Horror. One world can be nothing but a castle haunted by a vampire, another world can be exactly like Earth, where the denizens of the world think its Earth, and it's dealing with a zombie apocalypse. There are usually a very small amount of actual Horrors per world, there are actually A LOT of worlds with just one as a matter of fact. The worlds of Terra Mortis can fit into three categories: worlds which are not aware of the other worlds and don't even know they are part of a grander scheme called "Terra Mortis", worlds which are aware of other worlds and MAY know they are part of Terra Mortis but don't know how to travel to other worlds, and finally, worlds that are aware they are part of Terra Mortis and know how to freely travel between worlds. Typically, the last category of world usually has many Horrors living in them due to the tendency for worlds like them to be connected to hundreds or even thousands of other worlds. Finally, there's the travel between worlds, which is simply calls "The Mists". The Mists tend to show up randomly in worlds, and anyone who walks into them will be sent to another world. The third category of world knows how to summon these Mists and control them so they can be used to travel anywhere. Short answer: Terra Mortis is really just a collection of worlds where terrible stuff happens. Some worlds know what they are, some don't. Really, they're just an excuse for anything to happen. In addition to this, there's a few more parts of Terra Mortis I should feel to include extra tidbits of the lore I can divulge. Most of this will focus specifically on the time period BEFORE the main story of this guild starts: - The Director was part of an organization called the "Dead Eye Observatory", a scientific organization tasked with studying Terra Mortis. They traveled in and out of Terra Mortis repeatedly in the years following the main story of this guild. However, when The Director started to capture Horrors and gather them within The Theater, almost all of the Dead Eye Observatory's members seemed to disappear. - The only known members of the organization left are The Director, and the head of HorrorTheater.com: George R. Goatman. - As I mentioned, all Horrors need to be around the same power level, as stated in the rules: anyone can beat anyone under certain circumstances. Nobody is that powerful. While this may be true as far as the character you can make are concerned, there are in fact beings who are far more powerful than your standard Horrors. They are known as the Thirteen Apostles of Terror. They are the most powerful beings in Terra Mortis. They once all served the "King of Terra Mortis", but the being going by that moniker was killed many centuries ago, leaving the group as nothing more than a collection over-powered beings. - Obviously, there are thirteen of them. Most of them are way too powerful to be held within The Theater, though there is one who volunteered to go there of his own free will... he dwells in a cave underneath The Theater. - There was once a human from Earth who somehow ended up in Terra Mortis. She was merely a normal human girl who wandered the various worlds of Terra Mortis for years. Eventually, she was corrupted by the world and became one of the Thirteen Apostles of Terror. Though her real name was lost in the centuries, The Director dubbed her "ALICE", perhaps for the irony.
