While he had had some difficulties trying to get a time nailed down for his next visit to the frozen icebox that was his wonder, finally things seemed to calm down, and he waited for Ekstrom to arrive. They'd brought snacks last time, and even if he wasn't the type to bake, he did have an extra thermos of cocoa if they wanted it.

Maybe things would slowly get better, even if the increase in attacks while he was out really had been putting a damper on his mood. His shoulder still ached slightly, and under his uniform, he had more than a few Icy Hot patches slapped to his skin to help with aches and pains that always seemed to get worse in the cold.

His goal for today was a simple one: get Ekstrom there and see what they could discern about all this and maybe find his ring. It sounded important, especially if it meant he could contact someone to help if he got attacked again or found himself in a spot of trouble. It meant more people to deal with, but if it also meant less pain, then it was an okay enough trade-off.

A couple of chocolate focaccia loaves were bundled up nicely somewhere in her subspace, because she was able to squeeze in some baking while working on her latest project for her mom for mother's day. Or, if she didn't finish it in time, a "just because" present because she'd always been the type to do that. Her mother's most recent requests had been for more visits from her, so if all else failed she could probably make that work!

In any case, the experimental chocolate bread had come out rather nicely and she wanted to share, so she brought some along for the new knight. It wasn't hard to spot him, a bit early at the arranged meeting spot. Grinning, she waved in greeting and picked up her pace.

"I'm not late, right?"

Looking over as he heard someone approaching, he waved slightly. "No, not at all." Not that he really had an exact schedule for this, but the fact that nothing had popped out and interrupted him while waiting was a godsend.

Meeting her in the middle as she hurried over, he offered up his hand to take hers to get this over with. "Sorry about this..." He then mumbled the magic words under his breath and squeezed his eyes shut in anticipation of the cold.

The next thing he felt was a face full of snow, and he let go of Ekstrom's hand as he groaned and managed to get himself upright. The complex towered above, as silent and as dark as each time before, though this time he could see a door torn off its hinges from this side they'd ended up. It looked like it had been done by something other than the weather, if the gashes through the metal were anything to go by.

Wiping his face off and shaking out his braid, he looked over to Ekstrom. "Okay, so at least this time I don't have to try squeezing in through a half-closed door. Lucky."

She took his offered hand without really thinking, and before she knew it she felt cold wrap itself completely around her. Ekstrom had loosened her grip in slight surprise at the sudden change, and then regretted it immediately when he let go completely to get himself upright. "Sorry!" she said, moving to help him however she could.

Once he was up, though, her attention had gone immediately to the complex before them. It felt familiar—the metal and the cold mostly, though the door torn off its hinges also reminded her of her first visit—though still novel. The curiosity in her eyes was striking, and she turned back to him as he regarded her.

"Lucky, yeah!" she said, hoping to encourage him since the state of the door probably didn't help in that area. She gestured toward it, smiling. "Lead the way?"

Breach: East Wing... 2 Signs of life.
Processing...
Processing...

Recognized as unidentified Mercury personnel...

In the dark of the complex, now dark by choice of the system, a few cameras stuttered and shifted as power was rerouted from one side of the complex to the other. It would take time, an eternity for a computer, but mere moments for the living beings entering through the breach.

A camera focused, moving over the blonde and then the greying male. Its aperture clicked slightly as it took a photo before sending it back to the mainframe. Just in time, as a light source came from the male.

Partial match, uniforms recognized. Appearance is potentially a familial match within the error coefficient...

Pulling power away from the camera and back to the mainframe, the system stilled and waited.

---------------------------------------------------

With Ekstrom's help, he finished dressing and got the snow out of his clothing. With a quick shiver from the cold, he stepped into the complex through the damaged door. The positive outlook she had was still something he was working on handling a bit better, and he tried not to give her too sour of a look over his shoulder as he nodded.

"Yeah, it's a maze. Everything is dark. I thought I saw some sort of flickering light last time, but I have no idea how far this entrance is from the one I went through last time. If I could see a map or something, maybe..." Groaning as he stepped ahead, he froze for a moment as he thought he heard something.

Pulling his flashlight out, he looked down at the ground to see if he'd stepped on something. When all he saw was dust and snow, he looked back at them again. "Did you hear something? Or did you step on something, maybe?"

Swinging the light around, he saw a hallway in each of the 3 directions around them. While none of them were lit, he could at least see that the one that followed to the right had more torn metal fallen and blocking part of the path. It looked almost like something had torn through the area in a rush, something he definitely didn't want to encounter.
