[Wed, Aug. 16.]
Edited: Four times

Yeah...I was originally going to entitle this thing 'UWWAHHH! SHALUA WEARS BLACK PANTIES!' but that didn't fit (alas). But...yes...onto the review.

After haveing watched a majority of the Japanese cutscenes as well as reading numerous reviews along with a translation of the script I really wasn't expecting much. But...well...Squeenix threw another curve ball.

Though the AI is about as stupid as they come (at least in Normal) the game provides a bit of a challenge and is rather entertaining on the whole. Unfortunately, I suck at analog and if anyone else sucks at it you're going to get pwned (like I did crying ). Squeenix really did try their hardest to make this as much like a shooter game as possible (d'oh!) but kept alot of the RPG/Final Fantasy elements in there. It's a rather interesting combination. I've been enjoying it when I wasn't getting my (or, rather, Vincent's) a** handed to me on a silver platter.

Though there's a huge graphic change between normal cutscene and CGI, even the less realistic is good---you can see their eyes moveing around and the lips don't look so fake. Along with the people, the scenery is rather interesting, building upon both AC and the original game. Oh! When you get to Edge, look around for the Loveless posters and tell me if you think that's Tifa or not.

The Limit Break system is also alot different than what I'd expected. There's no gague like in DMC (which is more convenient in some ways). Instead, you need to find 'Limit Breakers' in the general area. Forunately, these are usually easier to find than the other items (like potions, for example razz ). Just for reference, Galian Beast is ungodly slow. So I suggest useing him in really close combat. But he does a good job at frying anything within a certain radius of you...so it's worth looking around for the LB items.

All and all it's rather entertaining. There're dozens of interesting little nooks and crannies to look for. And the fact that Vincent's pretty nimble--though there really aren't any spiffy little combos like in the DMC games--makes it easy to move around....or run away from the DG enemies when you run out of ammo. (By the way, reloading is automatic) It's definitely not the best game I've ever played, but it's not horrid, either. And allow me to say one more thing:
FANSERVICE! OH MY FRIGGEN GOD, FANSERVICE!

Was it Elec that called it 'canon rape'? I can't remember...

Randomness:
Gun customization is goooooooooooood for teh emo b*****d. It's like playing with Legos or something...only with gun parts. I highly suggest you use a normal barrel with a scope for the first part of the game. DG snipers are good at pwning you.

Oh and it's 'Lu-crey-tsia'. Do you think that's weird? Sorry PL, she's not a Brit as we'd hoped. No news on Hojo so far Take the Japanese version of Hojo and make him speak English and you're pretty darn close to his voice. 'Cept he's a bit annoying in the English version. No accent. But there is a WRO soldier with an accent. You can knitpick him all you want--he's useless anyway.

And don't worry about trying to aim around the villagers or soldiers, only the DG soldiers can kill them.

Don't try and kill Azul and Shelke at the beginning--it just won't work. gonk

And, so far, the game hasn't been veyr predictable--and I've even watched the cutscenes before! So maybe you can get some entertainment value out of the cutscenes (even if they make you stare incredulously at the TV going "WTF?!?!")

No news on the EU release as of yet. And I may update this with real info eventually. I'm just too lazy to wait until 2:30 tomorrow to tell PL ^_^

Tips, Bosses and Memory Capsules--Oh my!

[In Progress...dear God I need a life or maybe some insomnia meds crying ]

I'll get this up all of this up for ye eventually, PL-sempai. I just need to remember all the little things I found out >.<

Sea of Flames

Memory Capsule Locations:

1.The roof with the white stone chimneys. If you get up on top of that wall to the north and look around. Oh, by the way, you have to make him shoot all of these. He can't just grab of them.

2. (South Side of Kalm) Behind the window on the second floor of a house. It's the one across the street from the mako point. I'd tell you which...but they all look the same! gonk

3. (North Side) Walk around the fountain (looking into it, mind you) until you can see the capsule.

4. (North Side, after the cardkey thing is mentioned) Go to the barricade. Look up and around until you see a wooden scaffolding, the capsule's on top.

5. (North Side) Go to the mako point by the stairs. It'll be behind some crates and barrels.

6. (West Side) After you're done ignoreing...uh...I mean, getting breifed by the *cough*useless!*cough* WRO soldier, look up at the rooftops until you spot the little shiney. It'll be a tad hard to see, but if you move the camera slow enough, you'll find it.

7. (East Side) Beyond the fire in the alley near the two barriers. Should be opposite the fence (unless I remember the guide wrong ninja ).

8. (East Side) Go to the ledge near the mako point where the snipers tried to pwn you and look...again...at the rooftops. Should be between two buildings.

Boss tips:

Unfortunately, you have to fight most of the bosses (especially certain scary members of the Tsviets *shudders*) multiple times. So, when you have to fight the Evil Helicopter of Doom, remember that you're going to have to fight it again.

Dragonfly
Don't even try to hide from it, just shoot it with all you've got. But do try and dodge the guided missiles. I think jumping right before they hit helps. I don't remember...I got hit by them... sweatdrop But Jrod and Lu didn't...they told me I should've jumped.

Dragonfly GL

Oh noes! Not again! Only this time it's not moveing so friggen fast. Shoot as if your life depends on it (which is kinda does). And wait for the Evil Helicopter of Doom to fall over on it's side. See the glowy area? Shoot the glowy area. Really drains its health.

Side note:
In order for a Phoenix Down to work, it has to be set. Go to the Menu, then to Items, then look for the Phoenix Down, click it, the select 'Set'. Now he will come back for more pwnage mrgreen

General Tips

Take your time and make sure to move the camera around before rounding corners. DG soldiers like to pop out of odd places. Make sure to watch for snipers, too. It's a good habit to get into, as you'll encounter many many snipers in Edge. *grumbles*

And if you really really want to help the villagers, it's going to take forever (there are 40 of them, but they come in groups) unless you're used to this kind of gameplay. And if you listen to my tips, you'll never get a good score in timeing. sweatdrop Oh, and those barrels that say 'Danger'....they explode. Make sure you're not to close to them if you feel the need to shoot one. (If you shoot one when an enemy is close enough, it'll kill them.) You can break open the boxes that say 'Cargo'. You'll usually find ammunition and potions inside, but occasionally an enemy has been boxed up for Vincent's killing convenience(this will make sense once the sewer level comes up) MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR LIMIT BREAK ITEMS! THEY HELP IMMENSELY!

Okay...the caffeine from my Pepsi has been talking ever since the boss tips...so I'm going to go now. -_-

Showdown in the Wastes

Memory Capsule Locations:

9. (After the Shadowfox crashes...nice driveing, Reeve xd ) Look over the edge near the ruined bridge and look down into the water at the base of the waterfall.

10. Cross the plain where Reeve decided to crash you and look across that chasm-thingie. It should be right on the other side (if not...it's easy to spot)

11. Under the truck. You should be able to see it if you go around to the front.

Fun with mounted guns that come out of places they shouldn't be able to fit:
My only advice is this: Just hold the button down and move the gun around. There are so many of these suckers that it's not funny. Just don't let them get too close, they can still get you from where they are on the ground.

Boss Tips:

Crimson Hound:

Remember those Guard Hounds from when Vincent got to play with the mounted gun? Guess what...they're back...and they have a friend, too! A friend who happens to be the boss of this level. The Crimson Hound is actually relatively easy to beat. Shoot him as much as you can before he howls and summons more Guard Hounds to the scene. If he gets a chance to do so, just mow them down. Now, our little red friend likes to jump up and down from the rocks, so he'll lead you on a merry chase around the area. But, once you get close enough, melee attacks work well. Don't waste your time on Limit Breaking unless you get overwhelmed. Useing materia really helps in this level as well--and the Guard Hounds drop these spiffy little potion things. 4laugh But, anyway, the more your deplete it's helth, the more the little red kitty-thing stays on the ground...this just means he's going to try and use Vincent as a chew toy...maul him first and he won't get the chance. Oh...and just because you're still able to hit him, doesn't mean he's not dead. You can still slice him up after he flops over.

Pegasus Riders:

I. Hate. Deep Ground. Oh my friggen GOD I hated these guys! As soon as you pwn the Crimson Hound, make sure you have a Phoenix Down set and make sure you have enough potions to go around. Wait to Limit Break until you've gotten their HP down a bit...oh...by the way, you can throw fireballs...press the R1 button, I believe Press the O button down, this works well as a aerial attack. Manuver around to keep from getting plowed over and just pump these suckers full of lead. As a side note, once you defeat one rider, they'll crash. Please stand well back from the dead ones, as they can still plow you over...and it HURTS. So, after you've mown a few of them down, Limit Break and fry their glowy little rear-ends.

Silent Edge

Okay! I hated this level with a passion *grumbles about snipers and their uncanny ability to shoot through boxes...* So let's see if any of this will help ^_^;;.

Memory Capsule locations:

12. (Plaza) Climb up on the walkway above the area and look around, there'll be a mako point off to one direction, the capsule is near it on top of a building.

13. (Plaza)On top of the ruined monument. You can reach it from that walkway that the annoying kid leads you out of.

14. (Plaza)Whils following the annoying little kid around the upper walkway, look for the ladder, climb, then turn and look in an...up...ish...direction. It'll be on a ledge.

15. (North Side) Stand under the thingie that the sniper was on and look back. It'll be up on some beams in the corner.

16. (North Side) At the end of the south road, go to the fence, it'll be on the other side.

17. (South Side) I don't remember this one well...so I'm just going to quote the guide:

'After shooting the 14th sniper' (there were 14?) 'Continue to aim for the elevated walkway' (....*blank look*) '...at the area beyond the fencing...it's on the ground to the right of the large container in the middle of the fenced-off area.'

18. (Warehouse) Just barely take a step inside, so as not to trigger the boss battle, and look up into the rafters to the right. The proceed to kick DG a**.
