Running from the stones thrown by the cruel children of the Kingdom of Mc. Rosia, Uriel tried to stick to the alleyways of the kingdom's outskirts. She ran with her heart pounding in her ears, her eyes wide and water with tears, and sucking in air through her gritted teeth. She had bruises on her torso and face, but she still ran barely dodging the stones thrown. Her silver hair peeking from her cap shone in the sunlight, but she was getting enraged when she heard the cruel comments of the children chasing her. Fueled by her rage, she pumped her legs faster until she reached the gate of her Kingdom. When she reached the kingdom gates, she paused to look at the guards who didn't pay her any attention, so she burst through the open gates into the forest beyond the beaten pathway. She would make her way to the Kingdom of Joina where she might be accepted for her unique physical appearance.

Once she reached the forest she slowed her pace to a walk. Tears of rage and sadness ran down her face as she tried to find a tree trunk to sit against. Her mind was racing a mile a minute because she could not comprehend how children of her own age and older could be so cruel to someone who looks different on the outside. She mind was made up to head West to Joina Kingdom, so she would have to wipe away her tears and refresh herself at a nearby river. She wondered in a western direction (following the rule that moss always grows more on the north side of a tree), trying to stay close enough to the road to not get lost, but far enough away to not be seen. She was only equipped with he training sword, but she would make it somehow. She saw insects of assorted kinds, deer, and one bear (but she had climbed a tree to keep away from it). She had found a pond to wash her face and refresh her mind and body. Uriel had traveled far enough for the day so she slept near the pond.

Once Uriel awakened from her short sleep, she had to ready herself to a small town she heard called “the Village of Yubar”. It was near Joina and there she would be able to gather information about the locals of Joina and surrounding small villages. Not to mention perhaps get some food, water, and shelter. After gathering some berries and drinking some water she began to travel once more. Her destination; the village of Yubar. With the hint of determination in her eyes and with the rage and sadness from the day before, she set off for the day. The sun rose high in the sky as she wondered towards the mountains near Joina. She occasionally passed by small wildlife, a deer or two. She stopped near a tree bearing a strange fruit, and gazed to see what they looked like. She managed to pick a piece of fruit from the tree and so find it a shiny red orb like object. There was a stem and a leaf coming off of it, so she tapped it to see what sound it made. She didn’t know much about fruit, mostly berries. It made a funny hollow like sound, so she tried to bite it. Her teeth sunk in and she bit off a chunk of this odd fruit, and she felt the juices on her lips, heard the crispness of the small piece she had bitten off when she chewed. It was tasty with flavor and gave her a renewed feeling. She finished the delicious orb and picked three more for her travels. Her walk continued to the time where the sun hid behind the mountain and the moon peeked over the opposing horizon. She knew she had to rest sometime, so she began to look for a convenient place to rest. She settled for two closely grown together trees and slept where the trunks twisted together. She would have pleasant dreams tonight.

Feeling a bit happier, Uriel awakened to birds chirping. The birds were in a nest above her and the sun’s rays peeked through the tree’s leaves. She got up and stretched her muscles for the day’s travel. She looked around for anything she might be able to use or give. She felt like something was watching her. She felt that chill run down her spine, so she thought it best to move forward and look on the way to the Village of Yubar. She came across more of those red orbs, so she took only two this time. She had two apples that day, and she managed to come across another pond where she drank and bathed. She felt those eyes on her again, so she quickly finished up and continued to the village. Her pace today seemed to be quickened because of her paranoia that someone was following her. Uriel was frightened and her fragile young imagination might have been getting the best of her, she wasn’t sure. She continued on and she finally saw something that might have been the thing that was following her. Its eight eyes glistened in her direction. It knew it was seen. It came out of hiding. The thing that followed her was a spider about 6 inches tall and seemed to be hungry. Uriel readied herself to protect her own life.

Sword drawn and ready to strike, Uriel seemed fearful of the creature. The spider looked her up and down and crouched ready to pounce. It jumped up high and almost landed on Uriel, who saw it jump and ran to her left. With her sword she did a baseball like swing at it and it connected. She felt the connection and had a happy glint in her eye. The spider quickly lunged at her and grabbed her leg with the front legs and held it near its mouth. Uriel screeched and tried to boot off the creature, but it wouldn’t budge. She felt the sharp pain of her skin being pierced, and the warm sensation of blood running down her leg. Uriel’s eyes widened, and her pupils grew small. She had a blank expression on her face, she seemed to be in shock. The spider saw its chance and tried to take it, but Uriel’s expression changed in an instant from shocked to really angry. She took her training sword and put it between her leg and the spider’s body. The force she used to pull it off was amazing for her age. She ripped it off her leg, but she hurt herself in the process. Her leg was ripped up from the spider’s grip on her leg. The adrenaline ran through her veins and she hit the spider with another baseball swing. The spider’s body hit solidly against a tree trunk. The look on its face was fear. The spider tried to get up but was having troubles. It could see its prey limping towards it with the wooden stick in its hands. The prey came closer, closer, and the spider finally managed to get up. It was too late because the prey was ready to strike again. Uriel, fueled by adrenaline and rage, lifted the training sword above her head and drove it down through the spider’s body. The spider’s guts splattered out and sprayed her face a little bit, she felt energized, but she had a strange feeling it wouldn’t last. She left the sword in the spider’s body until it stopped twitching. With her leg damaged and her lose of blood, she knew she would have to make it to the village of Yubar soon.

Uriel’s body seemed heavy and weak after twenty minutes went by. She used her sword as a crutch as she continued walking. She wanted to find that village. Her determination kept her going until her body just couldn’t go on. Once she reached her limit, she just collapsed. Her mind was blank and all she could see before she fell was black. Her breathing was weak and soft, she looked almost dead. She would rest peacefully. She awoke with the sound of a bubbling pot of something that smelled good. She tried to rise but her body felt heavy. It seemed that she had many layers of blankets put on top of her. Uriel lifted a few off and managed to swing her legs over the edge of a rather large bed. Her leg was bandaged but was still in pain. The pain kept her sitting on the bed, but there was a woman who looked very motherly. “Well good morning little girl,” she said to Uriel. “Morning kind lady,” replied the shy Uriel. “You look like you’ve seen some trouble. You shouldn’t be traveling by yourself in these woods. You could’ve died you know,” the woman said insightfully. “…” “Would you like something to eat? I have made some potato stew if you would like some,” offered the nice woman. “…” Uriel was being quite shy, because this is the first time anyone’s been nice to her. “Well then I’ll just leave a bowl for you and you can help yourself when you’re ready.” “Th-thank you…” “I’m sure you’ll be on your way soon enough, so enjoy your stay here…” said the woman, awaiting the name of her guest. “Oh… sorry… my names Uriel, Uriel Soffen.” “Good, nice to meet you Uriel, you can call me Mother, everyone does.”

“I’m sure you’ll make it to the village of Yubar by tomorrow even in you condition Uriel,” said Mother. She had given Uriel a small backpack with a water skin, a shiny bowl, a carved wooden spoon, and the red orbs that Uriel found before. The backpack itself was made of thin leather, and there were also filled with these weird things called ‘vegetables’ but Mother called them ‘potatoes’, they sounded like the red orbs did when you knocked on the outside shell, but they tasted totally different. These ‘potatoes’ tasted like starchy bread, but it wasn’t bread. A perplexing thought for Uriel. With new bandages and with her belly full, Uriel hugged Mother and thanked her for her kindness and for the directions to the village of Yubar. The backpack would be useful because the berries were difficult to carry in her pocket, and she could use Mother’s bowl to hold the water from ponds because it was difficult to hold water with your hands. With newfound happiness, Uriel set out to the Village of Yubar.
