Hate Crimes.
Crimes that get special attention and sentencing due to the nature of the crime.
A hate crime is when someone kills someone because of sex/gender/race/sexuality/occupation/anyothersinglefactor.
But aren't all crimes hate?
Ifnot, some are business.
Say the assassin kills someone for "business". He kills all black people because his equal opportunity employer sends him to do such. But he would be labeled as a hate crime commiter, even though hate was never involved.
It was "just business".
But then you get the angry rapist who has a few marbles loose, and he rapes and kills people.
He technically by the definition of hate, hated them, but he doesn't get any hate crime sentencing...
Shouldn't they either redefine the lines of hate crimes, or change the wording altogether?

Determining that something was a "hate crime" isn't a totally simple process. Hate crime laws in the United States can seem a tad ambiguous, but I think they're a bit more specific than it may first seem. The hate crime laws don't protect from a crime commited because of any single factor. Until the late 90s (97 or 99), hate crime laws did not offer protection to any person victimized because of percieved or actual sexual preference or percieved or actual gender identity. Also, just because a crime was commited against a person of a group that is offered protection under hate crime laws doesn't mean that the crime will be classified as a hate crime. I'm unfamiliar with the process in court as to how exactly hate crime status is determined, so I think my discussion on this topic can only be limited; however, I still think it is an interesting subject.

The way I see it, all crimes are hate crimes. People just like to make exceptions. xp

But obviously there is a greater degree of hate when you single out a group of people then a single person!
