The bitter cold of the Northern lands was a brutal strike to everyone. The cold stripped of heat, making exposed skin seem ready to crackle if moved. Already, horns sounded from the North. Trolloc attacks were underway. From the distance, the small fort was hardly standing on its own. Dots of orange flowed through the sky, arching upward then down. The clash of steel on steel couldn't be heard from this distance, but it was there, waiting for the group to draw closer.

From the distance, the walls held the Trollocs at bay, if barely. Hundreds scoured the walls and tore at the wooden spikes that had been constructed. It was a beautiful defensive plan, if a short noticed construction all the same. The five Fades that controlled the Trollocs stayed back as if they were the commanding generals themselves, those in charge of this very war. They took no form of fighting as they stayed a safe distance from the city walls. If things continued, those Fades would never draw sword to see victory.

Shol Garela was in the process of being overwhelmed. It came time for a decision. The group had their duty placed before them. Could they be in time?

::Shruddering at the thought of the gateway, Kai held his breathe and stepped through. The sudden, bitter wind ripped at his hair and tabbard, but the Aiel blood was thick in his viens, he would easily endure such rigid conditions. The sounds of battle called to him and he looked over the beautifully rugged landscape in the direction of the danger. This was his kind of place. He lifted his hand up and placed the jewel on his forehead like a thirsty man taking water. And it was there, agian, suddenly, just like the refreshing icy blast of the borderland winds. It shone with its delicate light as he let himself adjust, waiting for the others to come across the gate. Slowly reaching back, he pulled the bokken from his sheath.::

He was on his third and final drink when an arrow flew in thru the open doorway and hit his bottle, knocking it to the floor, shattering it. Silus's eye gave an involuntary twitch. He stood up, fury showing in his eyes.

"THAT WAS MY LAST BEER YOU [Delete Explicative]'S!!!!!"

He hefted his Claymore and marched out of the inn, the three-and-a-half foot blade held in both hands. Nobody messed with his drink. Nobody. Trollocs were assaulting the village. Hundreds of them. He gave a sadistic grin, looked around, and climbed to the top of one of the low buildings. Below was a Fade and some Trollocs. Deal with these first, then move on. Silus had never learned to fight fair, so keep that in mind. From under his cloak he pulled out an odd looking crossbow. It looked like a normal crossbow except that it had a crank and a rectangular box holding five bolts. He lay the claymore down, took the crossbow in both hands. and cranked the five bolts out and into the Fade. The Fade was fast, but not fast enough. It blocked two bolts, but the other three killed it. One thru the head and the others thru the torso. It started flailing around, lopping off a Trolloc's head and cutting another's arm off. During the time it took to kill the Fade, something had set the building he was standing on fire. He stood up, claymore in hand, crossbow back in place. One or two of the Trollocs panicked seeing him silhouetted against the burning building, claymore in hand and a sadistic glee in his eyes. He leapt off the building and entered the fray.

Kurai wrapped her cloak tighter about her frame. It was cold here and she was thankfull she had stayed in her breaches and blouse. She look back at the gateway and walked up to Kai.

"So....what now?"

::Kai turned to Kurai. Then back to the portal before returning to the siege.::
We need to get there and fast. Preferably get around the army of Trollocs protecting the Fades at the back of the line. If not, we just keep going through. We have dealt with this before, not without our losses. But we need haste, as in now.
::Kai was itching to go. The amulet picked up on his agitation and a slight breeze blew past Kurai and Kai. He was glad to have it back, even if it was suffused with the power...::

"Right." Kurai noddes and pulled her blades free of the confines of her sheaths. She was ready to run at the nearest Trolloc and cleave it in two. She tightened her grib on the hilts and looked to Kai.

Silus was cutting a swath thru the Dark One's ranks. He wasn't necessarily good, but he was brutal, and that had to count for something. He had killed twenty-three Trollocs and one Fade. He fought onward, trying to get to the edge of the town. Outside of town, to the south, he saw what he could only describe as a doorway of light. There were two people standing outside of it--a Woman in breeches and blouse and an Aeil.

"Oi! You two!! Get you're--OOF!" He was hit from behind but a Trolloc. The Trolloc pulled back for another swing, but Silus grabbed the haft of it's club. Then something odd happened. The wood the club was made from started to grow slowly and sprout leaves even slower. Silus's eyes went wide. But not as wide as the Trolloc's. Silus too the opportunity to take out the Trolloc with a well placed slice of his claymore.

Hopefully the people saw him. He could only do so much by himself.

Were some ways away..perhaps we should start walking, Aorn and the others can catch up...but...
::Kai stopped himself. He had been about to describe what only could be called bloodlust. He NEEDED to be in that combat...and after all, it had been why they came here.::
Lets go.
::With a swift walk he headed off for the mile or so that they had to cover before they got to the city. ::
When Aorn gets here, we go as fast as your horses can carry you. I'll keep up.

*noticing how Kai had grimmaced as they passed through the gateway put a smile on his face.
*Ridding up to both Kai and Kurai Sadia he smiled
"this brings back memories, not good memories but memories.
I Agree, we should hurry as fast as posible.
Grasping his Ashandrei he followed them towards as they came nearer he noticed that his ring started to glow once again, red this time, then started to fade away.
"Looks like were going to have more fun, I hope you two are prepared for more then just fades and trollocs, there may be one of the new dreadlords in there too.'
* smiling he kicked tsorovan into a faster pace.

Silus was getting the crap beaten out of him. He had taken three hits with a club and a spear butt in the stomach. Why the people hadn't come to help was beyond him. He killed another Trolloc and staggered down an alleyway. Some Trollocs hurried past, not even noticing him.

The bay snorted and rolled his eyes a little as the gateway opened, but he didn't cause too much of a fuss. Seluth had gated part of the way south to Illian and the stallion had had his fit then. It wasn't so bad when it wasn't a totally unfamiliar experience.

The horse stepped at first hesitantly, and then in a rushed jump to clear the portal. Seluth muttered a faint curse, the cold wind biting at him. It was almost welcome, after the stench and humidity of Illian. The cold was home to him. It was what he had grown up with for most of his life, afterall.

With a short, sharp spasm of pain and a grimace, he mounted up. He just hoped that he didn't take a fall from the creature. Settling himself and gathering up the reins, he turned to survey the land. The stallion danced a few paces to the side. Being cooped up in a stable, he was eager to run. And Seluth was almost inclined to let him. If there was anything that the Arafellin hated, it was shadowspawn. It was in his blood.

And for the first time in some days, he could reach out for the storm that was saidin, that was fire and ice rolled into one, an avalanche of power. He reached out to the raging tide, and drew on it. The icy wind tugged at his already flapping cloak, and pulled at his hair. He didn't care. He was ready for trollocs.

The bay hardly needed a signal to move. At the lightest touch of his heels, the stallion would have shot off if Seluth had allowed it. As it was, he moved at a pace quick enough to catch up to the others already moving off. Once he had caught up, he checked the stallion's pace. At this rate, they'd reach the raging battle soon anyway.

*looking at the masses of trollocs and fades that surrounded the smoke filled town his mind went back to simular battles, he could remember the exceitment and anxiety in the air, and that of fear of not seeing another day. Again he lead his forces into the trolloc hordes as arrows, crossbow bolts and the lighting filled the sky. The many battle horns sounded in the air as they charged into the ranks while he and the other officers shouting the battle cries of Manetheren.
"Carai an caldazar, Los caba'drin,Los Valdar Cuebiyari"
* the memory started to pass and he looked at his companions he wondered what they the future held for them, he didnt think that the comming hours and days would be plesant but when fighting these battles they never were.
*Glancing down at his ring it glowed again the deep red that proclaimed someone was either holding or weaving Sadin, glancing back he was releived to see the look on Seluths face, the strain and inner conflict.
Greatfull that they at least had some channelers on his side he slowed a bit so that the they could all ride in together. Hopefully they would get to the fort soon enough to save some of its people being a trollocs meal.

Kurai raised her sword and charged the nearest Trolloc. She beat and cut her way to the man who had called to Kai and herself. She followed him down the alleyway and stoped a short distance away waiting to see if any followed her. She cauotiusly approched and knelt beside him.

"Are you allright?"

Aorn

PostPosted: Wed Nov 17, 2004 6:55 pm

Striding dutifully and finally through the gate last, Aorn grimaced as his body became accustomed to the cold. It was different, yet not too different. He instinctively tied his cloak tighter around him then looked around. The others had all instinctively ridden to the fray. Kurai and Kai had moved with winged steps and hooves, as they were already nearly to the front lines.

A man who appeared to be in a semblance of readiness was fighting outside a tavern which was on the road to the fort. Seeing Kurai and Kai reach the man, he drew in Saidin and gave a laugh.

The source, was as always, a torrent of flame and sorrow, ice and happiness, and he let it consume him. Weaving a quick thread together, Aorn gated to the man's side, next to Kurai and Kai.

"We don't have much time," he said, the joy of the power causing him to smile much more then the battle lust that inspired warriors. "We need to get inside. Warrior," Aorn turned to the man, unsure as if he would shy away from a Domani man with one eye and the black of an Asha'man wreathed about him. "We go to the walls. If you fight the Shadow, you are welcome." Without missing a beat, Aorn turned to Seluth and nodded.

"We go behind the lines, to see how much damage we can cause I presume?" Aorn smiled at his frend and drew out his walking staff. He nodded to the others. "Come."

The energies of the world crackled, fused and there was another gateway in front of the group. The scene was the same, yet different. If any took the time to realize, it was because what they saw was inverted, coming from the opposite side of the battlefield. Holding the source like a star, Aorn's eye shone teal like a beacon. "Do not worry about the arrows from the walls. I will keep you safe. No one falls! We are much too important to lose ourselves to stray arrows and blades. Myself, Seluth or Kurai Sedai can let us leave the battlefield if we are being overrun. We will be outnumbered, but this is an attempt to sow confusion in their ranks and hopefully cause a retreat so we may regroup. Let us go."
