Scalla RP Thread!!!

As you stroll along in the Breedable/Changing Pets part of Gaia, you see a small sign hanging lazily from a pole. The sign looks quite new, shining in the newly-risen sun; a sudden gust causes it to blow violently around the pole, and as it calms you can make out the words "The Scalla Sanctuary" etched on it in large, gold letters. Shrugging, you decide to take a chance with the place; after all, it might turn out to be a neat place, with nice pets. You knock softly on the door directly under the sign, and, without a sound, it swings open.

Inside, there is a rather blank looking room, and your expectations for the place automatically drop. Before you can turn and go, however, there is a small thumping noise, and a tall form rises from the floor. Your eyes go wide with suprise, but you push that quickly to the back of your mind as the being approaches you, speaking.

"Hello!" The voice is happy, although soft, and definitly male. You are about to respond with a similar greeting, but he interrupts you, apparently too caught up in his own excitement. "How are you, today? Oh, where are my manners? Welcome to the Scalla Sanctuary!" He spreads his arms, trying to make the little, stuffy room look grand and exciting. Seeing the dubious look on your face, the man blinks, looking around.

"Oh...heh...Well, I guess I should show you the actual sanctuary, and not this dusty old place..." Long, purple hair swishes gently behind the man as he turns, shuffling softly over to another door. He grasps the knob, turning it easily, although he opens the door with caution.

Suddenly, what looks like a small, flying snake sails out from behind the door, making a hoard of noises only the young are allowed to make. The man reaches up, gently grasping the creature by the tail, and bringing it down to your level. You reach out, gently touching the thing; its skin feels like a mixture of rubber and velvet, and you would happily keep petting it for hours, save the fact that it whips around and almost bites you. As you withdraw your hand, the man draws the creature to his chest, scolding it.

"I am so sorry..." He mumbles, opening the door fully and tossing the creature back in. As it flies away, you get a glimpse of what looks like a calm, grassy meadow, surrounded by a thick forest. Before you can see any more, however, the man closes the door, turning to you.

"Ahh, well...Now that you have experienced one of the Scalla, quite intimately...Would you like to know more?" You nod slowly, and his smile broadens. "Alrighty, then! Follow me, and I'll tell you all about the Scalla, and how to acquire one, should you happen to have an interest..."

~1. Art theft is bad. No art theft for you. >0
~2. Follow all of Gaia's rules, as well as these.
~3. If you have a squabble with someone in the thread, take it to PMs. If you have a question or concern, post it, or PM Torikonero.
~4. Payment must be received in full after it is stated that you have won a Scalla, or the Scalla will be re-sold.
~5. RP is not required, but it would be nice. <3
~6. The Staff Members of the Scalla Sanctuary are as follows: Torikonero, Tsukijuun, Capy and Rime. Their word is law, so please obey them at all times. Also, if there is a guest colorist for a Scalla, they become a temporary staff member, and are entitled to the leadership roll, unless otherwise stated by a member of the permant staff.
~7. Have fun! ^__^

Failure to follow any of these rules may result in you being banned from the shop (or from Gaia) or being on the greylist. Both warrant the confiscating of any Scalla owned by the person being punished, and a restriction on buying any Scalla.

The man first leads you to a corner of the dark room, where a couple of ripped pages rest on a stone podium. He gently lifts them, placing them in your hands. "Here..." He whispers, his voice barely loud enough for you to hear. "If you read this, you will get a better idea of just what the Scalla are...On those pages is the only known account of Scalla life, from several thousand years ago...The Scalla, being the highly successful species they are, have not changed very much since then, so this account is still quite acurate, despite its age..."

A Recorder From Old
A cool wind whipped through the dense forest, sending newly-turned autum leaves swirling 'round their mother trees. The sun's first rays crept over a grassy hill, gently illuminating a slight form as it rose into the air. Small wings beat for the first time, newly formed muscles finding their place in the life of the creature. Suddenly, as the sun burst into full view, a larger version of the first being seemed to erupt from behind the hill, long wings pumping up and down to keep it aloft. Its long form gently surrounded that of its offspring, lifting it higher, until they both hovered just above the treetops.

The beings, named Scalla by the speaking inhabitants of the planet, had long, curving bodies that undulated in the air as they rose higher and higher; one could speculate that they could have once been related to the clumsy Earth snake, or the majestic Dragon, but both did no justice to what lived in this day. While the head of the Youngling was soft and undefined, its mother's curved cheek bones and pointed snout spoke volumes of how these creatures had evolved through hardship and pain, to become one of the dominant species on the planet.

The little one, having finally figured out the fine workings of its wings, was zipping 'round the larger Scalla, small raspy calls emenating from its maw, to be followed by the refined bellow of its mother. They played like this for a few moments, until a movement caught the mother's eye; a small, rodent-like creature, dubbed Marcii by the speaking ones, had emerged from behind a clump of bushes, and was busily sniffing at some seeds thrown down by a tree. Immediatly she nudged the baby to the ground, signaling with a small snort that it should stay where she put it, nestled close to the small cloud-like embryo it had come from not an hour ago.

Sliding away from her offspring, the mother Scalla clinched and unclinched the muscles in her stomach to move along the ground, much like her ancestors had done. She slid not toward the rodent, but around it, making sure it did not detect her presence; unlike the Earth snakes of long ago, the Scalla used a tactic much like the Angler Fish to catch their prey. When she was in position behind the bush she turned, pushing her tail slowly toward the Marcii; the Scalla had long ago developed a small tuft of hair on the end of their tails, which they used as a very effective lure for hunting. Raising its snout from the seeds, the Marcii turned, eyeing the tuft; unlike their decendants, the Marcii had developed a liking for meat as well as plants, which suited their ever-changing environment. Thinking the tail to be some sort of insect, it tensed its muscles, ready to pounce. As it's back legs left the ground, the mother Scalla lunged foreward, snapping her jaws around the Marcii, swallowing it whole. A thick lubricant covering the entire inner passage of the Scalla allowed them to swallow things whole in a matter of seconds; a useful evolutionary trait developed after too many Scalla were killed while trying to swallow their prey.

As she slipped back to her child, the snake-like being readied herself to provide nourishment. Small pores opened up near her belly, a digested version of the Marcii seeping slowly out, just in time for the baby to lap it up with it's long tongue. As the father Scalla had been killed defending his mate and child, there was only the mother to provide everything for her offspring. Usually, Scalla would mate for life, unless their partener died in some way; the remaining partner would either spend its life without a mate, and constantly thinking of its dead counterpart, or it would move on, finding another mate to help rear and produce the one to three offspring the Scalla produced only once a year.

How They Came to Be With Us

As you wander around the meadow, you notice that not all of the Scalla are the same size. Not only that, but there are tiny clouds floating near a couple of the larger Scalla, and the creatures seem to be nurturing them like they were precious to them. You turn, facing the man yet again, your face showing your confusion.

"Ohh, would you like to know how the Scalla grow? It's quite facinating, actually..." He reaches into one of his many pockets, pulling out a small journal. "When I first discovered the Scalla, I wondered what those clouds were, too...After many years of watching and living with them, I have discovered most of their secrets, including their stages of growth.." He smiles warmly, handing the journal to you. You take it, flipping it open to the first page.

Stage One: The Cloud

User Image

The Cloud is the first stage of Scalla growth, and the one in which they are the most vulnerable, to everything from the weather to their own parents. The colors and markings on the cloud do help to tell what the youngling and adult stages will look like, but only a little. The Cloud may be handled, but only carefully, and only by the beings that will make up the Scalla's family, later in life.

Nodding slowly, you turn to the next page.

Stage Two: The Youngling

User Image

The Youngling is the second stage of Scalla growth; the creature has now begun to form into something that looks remotly like its parents, with the same snake-like body, and tiny wings. The Youngling is much less sensitive and vulnerable than the Cloud, but still needs to be treated with extra care; in this stage, the young Scalla wants more than anything to discover the mysteries of its world, and that sometimes leads to trouble. Keep an eye on your Youngling at all times, and it should grow to be a happy, healthy Adult.

Chuckling softly, you turn to the next page.

Stage Three: The Adult

User Image
(Not actual size - They're larger.)

The Adult is the third, and final, stage of Scalla growth; the creature is now fully formed, and can take on the responsibility of breeding with another Scalla. Also, by the time it reaches Adult form, the Scalla should know quite a lot about the world around it, and anyone it has interacted with during its Cloud and Youngling stages. It is now ready to go out in the world without your constant watch, although it will always stay by your side, if you treat it well.

Now full of knowledge about the Scalla, you turn another page in the journal, only to find nothing there. You turn, handing the book back to the man, who smiles softly at you. "There...Now you should know all everyone knows about the growth of the Scalla...If I find any more information, count on it being in this journal..."
User Image

The man's eyes light up as you mention that you would like to know how to buy a Scalla. "Oh, I'm so happy to hear that! We need lots of nice owners for all of these wonderful Scalla..." He quickly shuffles over to a large bulletin board, pointing to a poster hanging off of it. "Here you go...This has all of the information you'll need, in order to acquire one of these marvelous creatures..."

Concerning the Sale of Scalla

There are several different ways to acquire one of the Scalla. Sales are mostly up to the artist who colors the Scalla, unless they turn it over to Tori or Tsuki. Sales will be handled in the following ways:

~Flatsale: Flatsales take place when there are Scalla Clouds under the flatsale blurb. All Scalla are 2k, and payment must be received 24 hours or less after you win your Scalla. Wait until 'ScallaMule' posts "GO!" in large, purple letters, and then request away. ^^ You may request a Scalla by color or number (ie: "I would like the third from the top!" wink . Please Direct-Link your Scalla until it is an adult, and then move it to your own server. ^^
Current/Upcoming Flatsale: Over! Congratz winners!

~Auction:An auction in the Scalla Sanctuary may involve several Scalla, or just one. Usually the Scalla are specially done, that is, they have unique coloring or lineart edits, are cosplays of some sort, or are being auctioned to support a charity or other needy group. The Starting Bid for auctions is up to the artist who colored/edited the Scalla, as is the AB, and whether items will be accepted.

Current/Upcoming Auction: Possibly soon...>>

~Raffle: A raffle consists of a set or unlimited number of tickets which are bought for a set price. There may or may not be a limit to the number of tickets a person can buy, and the ticket price will be determined by the colorist. Whoever is running the raffle will use randomizer.org or another method of random selection to choose a number of tickets; the number of tickets is directly related to the number of Scalla being raffled off, that is, if we are raffling off five Scalla, we will randomly choose five tickets. Whoever has the winning ticket number will win a Scalla; if there are several winners, choosing of which Scalla goes to which person will be done on a first come, first serve basis.

Current/Upcoming Raffle: Over! Congratz new Scalla owners!

~GiveAway: The giveaway is simple; whenever a member of the Scalla staff feels like someone deserves a Scalla, they have the right to give that person a Scalla, free of charge.

Current/Upcoming Giveaway: Always open, totally random...<3

As you stroll around in the world of the Scalla, you notice many of the creatures nestled together, often with Younglings or Clouds nearby. You smile softly, gazing at the beings in love, until a slight tap on your shoulder causes you to turn. The man is there again, also gazing at the Scalla. "Would you like to know a little about love in the Scalla world?" When you nod, he draws out a scroll-like object, handing it to you. "Here...this should help..."

Contents of the Scroll

In order for a pair of Scalla to breed, they must first have expressed their love through roleplay. Only in certain circumstances, and with a hefty bribe, will the colorists mate two Scalla without love. The price is up to the colorist, so inquire if you are interested. As explained earlier, the Scalla mate for life, so make sure your little creature is choosing wisely; the only thing that will break apart a pair of Scalla is death, and we hope that will not be happening by anything but natural means here. Both Scalla must be adults to breed, and the colorist breeding the two Scalla must have written permission from both owners before going ahead with the breeding.

While watching a couple of the Youngling Scalla flitter around each other, you come across a small book, lying on a rock. You flip open the book, curious as to what is inside; a list of sorts has been set up, naming all sorts of events and holidays to be celebrated in the Sanctuary.

The Little Book

Nothing here now...

~Tori's Post~

Hiiii everyone. <3 Yeah...I should probably have thought over what to put here before starting this..XD Oh well, sucks to be you if you want to read my nonsence. >>

Er...So, about me...Um...yeah...Enough of that..XD If you want to know about me, talk to me..<3<3 I would reccemend reading my journal, it's old and probably out of date..>>;

Reaaalllyyy, the credit for this shop goes to the lineart creator, Xaoli, and the other staff (who actually do productive jobs XD)...Yay for them!

I'll write more here when I have more to write..XD Until then, see ya!
~ rimedragona's Post ~

*yoinks the post*

This post is now mine! BWAHAHAHAHAHA! mrgreen

*cough* Yeah.

I'm rimedragona, call me Rime. I'm a colorist, and sometimes certist here. I also make nifty little banner thingies for signatures, woot!

I love breedables, roleplays (a little too much, I'm afraid... *looks at her growing list*), anime (!), reading, web design, and drawing/coloring.

Hmm. Oh! My main RP persona is, of course, Rime herself. Rime is a dragon who can shift into human shape, making her a were-human. xd She learned how to do that so she could study the ways of the humans without freaking them out. That's about the shortest I can make her history, but if you have more questions, shoot me a PM. 3nodding
Tsukijuun's Post

So, this is my little corner as the "co-owner" of the shop. ;D

Not much I can really think to put here. Hmm.

If you have any questions about the Scalla or anything PM me and I'll answer them as long as you use nice English and don't demand. <3
