A villanelle is a poem composed of five tercets and a quatrain, with two refrains. It is usually written in iambic pentameter. This is one that I wrote, since with a name like "villanelle" and all those fives, it had to be done.
Anarchic revolution's looming nigh
To bring about the death of that cabal
For bulletproof ideas never die.
As fate would have it, I had heard your cry -
A silhouetted figure, dark and tall.
Anarchic revolution's looming nigh.
While now unsure I'm not so bad a Guy,
When I am through, you'll have no fear at all,
For bulletproof ideas never die.
At your command, the fireworks will fly,
But I must answer to the Devil's call.
Anarchic revolution's looming nigh.
I go to death with a contented sigh.
It only is this body that will fall,
For bulletproof ideas never die.
And when this body falls, it's not goodbye:
Put on my smile, my dear, and show them all
Anarchic revolution's looming nigh
For bulletproof ideas never die.
