Am i the only person that thinks
Star Trek sucks? The original series was awesome... in the 1960s. The remake was very well done... for the 1980s. Everything since then has sucked increasingly harder.
Science fiction? Ya, maybe in the 1960s, when they had actual science fiction writers - but even then they only barely touched on science fiction stuff. In the 80s, it was just an after-school special morality show, with only a few neat SF ideas thrown.
DS9 was a glorified soap opera. And
Voyager was an embarrassment.
But the lowest point of all was when they put
Enterprise on the air. At that point they already had other shows like
Stargate SG-1 mocking the whole idea of
Star Trek - showing how dated it was - and shows like
Firefly showing how character-based space opera could be totally re-imagined to make it actually work. Compared to those,
Enterprise was... sad. And then, a year or so later, along comes
Battlestar Galactica to put it in its place.
Enterprise lasted, what,
one season up against
Battlestar Galactica? Then that was the end of that.
Star Trek is not good science fiction. It's a cheap-a** TV show that uses formulaic plots while pretending it has a deep philosophical point to make (it doesn't).
