I had this one character in 2nd edition D&D. He worshiped Tyr and was considered a follower. I had just turned 7th level and as part of a quest reward, I received The Hand of Tyr, a +2/+4 Longsword (+2 for everyone else, +4 in the hands of a follower). With two attacks per round and a THAC0 of 8(with all adjustments)... lets just say he was affectionately called Mr. Cheese. biggrin He would wade through 1HD creatures like it was nothing; one hit kills all around.

I should have gotten into D&D back then, rather then just recently. Not many D&D players around here because Id like to have some pnp games myself. I recall something about THAC0.. I still have some old D&D cards that were before the whole magic crap.. why cant they just sell cards with pretty pictures? why do they all have to have that card battle crap? crying

At the same time, 2nd edition was both more simple and more complex than 3rd. For one thing, a lot of the helpful rules weren't in the main books. Of course now 4th is coming out in May and from what I hear it is very promising. Classes are going to have skill trees and skills themselves are a lot simpler.

Yes, I recall seeing cards with characters listed with an AC of -1 or lower. If I understood it correctly, the lower your AC at the time, the better your armour. I was just starting to get the 3.5 rules down.. damnit!! I have a feeling there will be many upset fans with 4, many are not looking forward too it, they feel that its to make it so newer players can get in to it easier but that they have made it too easy. Im close to agreeing with them, dumbing down a game, so the lazy players can get into it, is not the right move. I have heard there are changes to Fighters to make some of their less commonly used feats easier to use.

I remember the good old days with TSR and 2nd. When 4th comes out I want to convert Mr. Cheese to see how well he will do.

The part that worries me is they might over simplify the system and that would ruin the game. If I want to play simple, I will start up Oblivion.. which was WAY to simplified for an RPG lover such as myself 3nodding Its like how I heard people complain that FF XII had a complicated skill system. I figured it out within 30 seconds and by no means am I an Einstien.. or however you spell that mans name. Over simplification will ruin D&D IMO.

I wouldn't but to me Halo is like crack. I don't like 3 as compared to 2 but its all a matter of opinion. I've only played it a couple of times and wasn't very impressed either. The degens/regens are just annoying and the new grenades aren't necessary. I like how they brought back the old assualt rifle though (and its not nearly as crappy as in Halo 1).
