Zanpakuto Guide

An Explanation of Terms:
Zanpakuto, Shikai, Bankai Almost as important to the story of Bleach as Ichigo, Rukia, Aizen and the other characters are the swords that they carry; their zanpakuto. Unlike other series' super-special attacks and weapons, the blades of Bleach are characters in and of themselves, with quirks and personalities of their own.

A zanpakuto is the direct reflection of the power of its wielder, a shinigami's spiritual pressure given physical form. While they mostly look like any other katana an old-time samurai might carry around, zanpaku-to are far from normal. The foremost difference is the ability of zanpaku-to to harm shinigami. Since shinigami are really a kind of ghost, normal blades and weapons can't touch them. In fact, "zanpaku-to" literally means "soul cutting sword."

The other major point that separates them from plain ol' swords is a zanpaku-to's ability to transform. Each blade has up to three distinct forms which its wielder can acces according to their strength and skill. The first, and one that doesn't take any effort to attain, is the blade's normal form. With a few exceptions, a zanpaku-to's normal form is indistinguishable from that of a plain katana.

The second form is called "Shikai", or "Initial release". The key to Shikai is learning the zanpakuto's name. Discovering it is not the easiest thing in the world; some Shinigami never do manage it. But for those that do, they gain a whole new level of power. Easily triggered by an incantation unique to each sword, a shikai zanpaku-to changes immensely, often becoming a weapon far removed from a sword. Also, shikai zanpakuto usually have special powers a shinigami can use, such as poisons, illusions or power blasts.

"Bankai", the third form, means "Second release". Only shinigami at the Captain's rank, or highly powerful Vice-Captains can acquire bankai. Increasing the zanpakuto's power by as much as a factor of ten, it takes many decades of intense training to learn bankai (or three days of cheating courtesy of Urahara and Yoruichi.) Triggering a zanpakuto's bankai needs only a one-word incantation: Bankai.

Bankai zanpakuto get additions to their names, indicating it is new and special, and it changes even more drastically, usually (presently with only 1 exception) becoming something far, far larger than the wielder. They are also major amplifacations of the Shikai. A bankai might give the weilder many more projectiles, or the whole structure of an item, or the whole body of a zanpakuto.

In addition, it must be noted that the power of a Bankai release depends a lot on how long it took to achieve. Those who decide to go the easy route and spend three days with a Spirit Form Doll will have Bankai releases that are far less strong than they would be taking the natural method.

Kido Guide

Most kidō spells are sorted into two categories: binding spells (bakudō) and destructive spells (hadō). The former category is somewhat more generalized, referring to basically any technique designed to deter a target, including tracking and communication spells. Some binding spells, however, can be quite harmful to their targets, if not deadly. Destructive spells, on the other hand, are always intended to harm, usually consisting of some sort of directed energy blast.

With the exception of healing, which requires no incantation or even a name to perform, kidō spells consist of four distinct steps: reciting the incantation of the spell (which is usually long-winded), its category (binding or destructive), its number, and finally its name. The number of a spell determines the difficultly of casting it correctly and effectively (#1 is simple to cast, #99 is incredibly difficult). With sufficient training, the first step can be bypassed, allowing spells to be used in combat quickly. Doing so, however, lessens the spell's effect, the degree of which is dependent upon the skill of the caster. Bypassing the incantation is also more difficult for higher-numbered spells, as casting them is already fairly difficult even with the full verbal component. The power of kidō spells varies on the skill of the user; even a low-level kidō spell can be utterly devastating when utilized by a sufficiently powerful user.

Kido Creation


I will allow members of this guild to create their own Kido spells, but each and every one of these spells MUST be sent to me via PM BEFORE you post it up here. I do not want your character to be able to use spells that are extremely powerful without extensive training for them. That being said, the only people who should be able to control level 90 spells are likely to be of Captain class. I will make a few exceptions here and there, but please keep this within reason.

Just for clarification, consider level 90 spells to be very much like Bankai: it takes a lot of time and work to master it. If you are not of Captain class or have not shown the ability to use such a high level spell in the anime/manga (canon characters only of course) then it will take an extensive amount of work to be able to use a 90+ spell. Who your character is determines how long it takes to master it. For example, Renji is not very good at kido, therefore it will take a long, LONG time to be able to use a level 90 spell. However someone like Nanao or Hinamori can probably learn the basics of using a high level spell pretty quickly, but it will still take some time to be able to perform the spell without the incantation the way Aizen did with Black Coffin.

Hadou spells level 96-99 created by Shidobu Cloud and Lucien the Inferno.

Hadou 96: Genbuago (Jaws of the Black Tortoise)
Incantation: Warrior of the North, whose breath freezes the tundra, draw from your shell, devour your victims, burn with the cold of the frozen peaks.
Effects: Opponent becomes encased in ice and slowly crushed as their own reiatsu implodes in on them.

Hadou 97: Suzakuhane (Wings of the Vermillion Bird)
Incantation: Noble of the South, whom perches in only the most sacred of trees, guide this poor fool to the next world with thine massive wings and cleanse him of evil with blazing glory.
Effects: A tornado of fire swirls around the target, building in ferocity as it grows. The intense heat ignites all oxygen within the eye and burns the target's exterior while all oxygen inside the body expands and bursts the blood vessels within.

Hadou 98: Byakkotsume (Claws of the White Tiger)
Incantation: Guardian of the West, whose gaze entrances thy prey, leap forth from crouched position and show thine enemy your righteous fury.
Effects: Two glowing yellowish-orange orbs appear in front of the target suddenly with piercing light strong enough to temporarily blind them. Not more than a second after their appearance they break apart into eight curved claws of light and shoot into the opponent's chest, digging deep then pulling apart with great force to rip the person to shreds.

Hadou 99: Seiryugekido (Rage of the Azure Dragon)
Incantation: Emperor of the East, lord of the celestial throne, dawn of all creation, let thy retribution wash away the taint, descend from the heavens to pass your final judgement
Effects: The sky darkens and flashes with lighting as the incantation is being spoken. When it finishes, a blue dragon descends from the clouds and rushes the caster's opponent with one ultimate attack that destroys them with the efficiency of the Soukyoku.
Note: There is no shinigami in existance powerful enough to perform this spell on their own, thus it must be performed as a joint effort by at least two shinigami of captain-class power.

Endless Mud Slide Technique
Class: Bakudou No. 22
Incantation: "Where are you going? Don't you know you're not supposed to run? Better yet... where am I going?"
Effect(s): An earthly type of ground becomes mud-like, and extremely slippery. This is capable of knocking down an unprepared opponent.

Tetsuno Chinkonkyoku (Iron Requiem)
Class: Bakudou 46.
Incantation: "Defend me oh harking woe, oh silent giver, the God of Metal."
Effect(s): The surrounding earth produces massive walls of rock and metal property reaching 100 feet in height around the user. The walls are extremely thick, and are capable of mitigating hadou up to 39.

Triple Beam Trap
Class: Bakudou No. 78
Incantation: "Defense of the 9th arc, we call to you, separate these into three."
Effect(s): Three beams, similar to Bakudou no. 61 except three times as large slam into an opponent at a specified area, everything above that area becomes immobile. These are extremely powerful, and even some of the stronger Captains will find it hard to break out of without tremendous exertion of reiatsu.

Reverse Shield
Class: Bakudou No. 79
Incantation: "Within the line of resolve, we often misjudge our own capability, let us take this into consideration with a Heaven sent kiss to counter this stupidity."
Effect(s): A huge blue energy shield is formed, similar to Bakudou 8 but essentially a body-size round shield. It freezes only body parts, but repels or moreso, cancels attacks like kidou and pushes back zanpakuto strikes.

Ten No Ue Ni Ji (Heaven Upon Earth)
Class: Bakudou 94
Incantation: "Bind their souls to this position, for it is in a compromise such as this, that we negotiate a vow of silence, you will not move, you will not breath, and you will not resist."
Effect(s): Twenty large rings of pure light energy form around an opponent, and in very rapid successions, close in on the opponent. Upon completing the enclosed, the body is constricted from head to toe in pure gold beams of light. This bind is capable of holding captain-class individuals from making any movements. From there, the beams drain the target of energy slowly, and if the kido is not removed or interrupted, the draining could be capable of killing the opponent.

Unbound Lightning
Class: Hadou No. 12
Incantation: "Charge me up baby. You know that's how I like it. Well... just shock them into agreeing with me."
Effect(s): Three bolts of lightning are forked from ones finger tips. Each of which carry the deadliness of Hadou No. 4.

Like A Hurricane
Class: Hadou No. 19
Incantation: "A lullaby of endless sovereignty, may this love I share be quite painful, as you have pained me long enough."
Effect(s): A small tornado-like burst of energy is shot out at an opponent capable of catching one off-guard.

Biimu No Aisu (Beam Of Ice)
Class: Hadou 53
Incantation: "Lying in plain sight makes one cold at heart, we ask ourselves who am I to sin, to indulge myself in selfish things, let it be known, that the Maiden of Ice implores me to do so..."
Effect(s): From the shinigami's finger, in an act similar to Byakurai, a beam of pure ice is shot out in a direction, upon touching something, that specified area freezes solid, and slowly it begins to spread. If this is not avoided, the only way to survive, would be to somehow move the beam, or decapitate the effected area.

Grace Of A Thousand Roses
Class: Hadou No. 75
Incantation: "As time continues, the seasons fully mature, each changing to ones own choice of Constance. We live. We grow. And we will dance... Roses keep on falling on my head."
Effect(s): A purple burst of energy is shot into the air, forming the fiery form of a rose. The petals then separate and fly with deep speed towards the target. Upon contact they will drill through the opponent attempting to shred them to pieces.

Osoregemonaku Ranran Dan No Daisanji No Seisen (Defiant Flaming Resolve Of The Third Crusade)
Class: Hadou 82
Incantation: "How dare you, plague the world, you sinners, you fools who blindly cast away the line of belief before God, in times of miracle and necessity. Let you burn, to redeem yourselves in the Halls of Redemption."
Effect(s): A gigantic single ball of extreme heat ignites within the user's hand, upon being shot, it expands into a large X, and then spins until eventually coming into contact with something. Upon touching anything, at any point, the fiery X explodes, causing moderate to severe damage, and immolating whatever was nearby.

Conduct The Revolution
Class: Hadou No. 85
Incantation: "Through my hand and by my will I will destroy you. I am the diviner, the one that had been granted the eternity to live. You are nothing. I am everything. Feel my power."
Effect(s): A ball of pure electrical energy is formed in the user's palm. It is then enhanced by ones own reiatsu, and becomes larger. Finally completing the charge it is ready for use. Upon slamming it into an opponent, the ball explodes and negates the area, creating an impact of immense proportion. This is capable of severely damaging reishi in a person. Afterwords, a shock-wave is sent out which negates bakudou spells lower then 80. It may also blow apart a spiritually manifested attack such as a burning cage, or any of type of lasting physical effect.
