I am a terrible homemaker. Awful. Just terrible. On one hand, I feel like I'm drowning in clutter and am a complete neat freak, desiring order so that I can appreciate the chaos in the other areas of my life. On the other, I'm completely disorganized with apparently no homekeeping skills and have no idea where to begin.

If you're the same and managing post tips, please.
If you're a neat freak who is a fabulous homemaker and knows a great way to explain how to keep it clean, also, please post tips. heart

http://www.flylady.com I haven't been in a horrifically long time, and my copy of the book keeps peeking at me from under piles (I've yet to get through it), but it's written and maintained by women who are NOT natural organizers.

I'm bad about buying too much food and cooking more than I'm going to eat. (fridge left overs almost never get eaten). But I do like to cook more than I'm going to eat and freeze it for later. FANTASTICALLY helpful, since I do things in spurts. When I'm cooking, I'm usually cleaning too. I try to get as much done during my hour or two that I feel like it before I sink back into BLEH-The-House-SUCKS mode.

Oh, it's not quite so overwhelming when Jimmy's home, but he's been in Iraq for... almost 15 months now? 14? I think 14. Twooooo More weeks. Then I get to move. Whoopie! neutral

hes in iraq? omg! you poor thing! ..you do know he wont get any veterans benefits right? See, Bush was so careful with words, its a war on terrorism, not a real country, and we never really officially declared war. You cant have a war with terrorism, espically when its everywhere not just iraq. So us being in iraq is only a police action. And all those soldiers in iraq or ever in iraq wont get benefits later on. I feel bad for all those soldiers. Doing something for thier country and wont get help back later on. Of course bush dont care, he doesnt have to go to iraq, or have brothers, fathers of sons there. hes so comfy in his lil office , probally trying to fix the fact hes illiterate.

Or one of those Co-op type schools. I want to send mine to one of those schools that still teaches what I'd like to call basic survival skills. Cooking, Growing, Sewing; those sorts of things. I don't think we had home economics at all in my school, but we had some sort of class for future nurses or something? WTF and I'm shocked we didn't have a higher instance of teenage pregnancies because our week long sex ed program taught me NOTHING except they couldn't answer a simple question. neutral

The town that I went to school in was controlled by the MEGA CHURCH. They weren't allowed to teach us about condoms or birth control. The words were never even said outside of someone asked a question about them and was promptly told "ABSTINENCE!" *mega eye roll* We weren't even allowed to have dances or a prom.

I'm not a natural homemaker either but I have found that playing upbeat music and working on a room by room basis while Baby naps really helps. I usually do dishes at night after I've put her to bed. You can wind down with the warm water and repetitive scrubbing then enjoy a cup of coca or herbal tea before sleeping. If your house is too dirty hire a maid for a day to help you get the house into order. Upkeep is easier to do than full cleaning. If your house is too cluttered spend time throwing out trash and boxing unneeded items and outgrown clothing. When your Husband returns he can go through the boxes and retrieve items he wants to keep before you yard sale/donate them to charity. 3nodding

I am a pretty bad housekeeper myself, and I've found that flylady routines require a little more structure and discipline than I have (or can stand), but the one idea from those that seems to work for me is to work on one specific thing at a time until it is done (in the case of finite jobs like dishes or folding a basket of laundry) or for a specific period of time (in the case of general picking-up and cleaning, which seems neverending with 2 elementary aged kids and a preschooler.) Cleaning for 30 minutes at a time makes it easier because it is less overwhelming to know that there's an end in sight, instead of looking at everything that needs to be done at once and feeling like doing all of it is impossible and will take forever.

Don't know if that will help you, but it helped me. Good luck.

im so glad my inlaws have moved in with us, my mom in law does most the cleaning, laundry and cooking, and i basically go to work. i dont think ill be working much longer tho. 8 months and 1 week along working in a stupid factory with stupid people( not all are stupid tho) is hard, my job is physically demanding too! and im so mad that our new girl is my age, not pregnant and only gets 1/3 of the work done i do in a day. shes lazy, and talks on her cell phone too much! shes only there because her stupid aunt works there. her aunt has to be skitzo, cuz she acts like she is some kind of goddess and tries to boss everyone around. and she likes to hit on married men. I really found it funny the time she said she could seduce my husband easily cuz he dont have a real woman. And i told her "yeah and theres way too much of you for him to know what to do with." my job sucks. no one really knows what going on. And we are so far behind, because of the machines, not me, i get stuff ready for shipment. ugh!
