Chakra Elements I'll describe the chakra element concept here. In the show, every ninja has a natural elemental affinity. The element's are normally decided by where the ninja lives, the ninja's bloodline, and can also be influenced by Bijuu. An example, Haku mentions that his clan uses wind and water chakra. He also mentions that he achieves the ice jutsu by mixing wind and water chakra. Most low-ranked ninja that aren't part of a bloodline have only one chakra element, these are genin and chuunin. When they rise to be jounin or higher, they are able to create two chakra element's one being their natural element. THose with a bloodline can always have two elements, but they will have the two elements that the clan has, and only those two. Finally Kage may have 3 elements. As for Jinchuuriki, they have two elements. The first being their natural element, the second being the chakra element of their demon. In the end, this means you can only perform jutsu within your element. If you have fire and electric chakra, and fire and jutsu technique is within your ability to use, but if you wanted to learn a water technique, your outta luck. An example of dark chakra would be the Nara clan, as seen when Shikamaru uses chakra knives to absorb his chakra, and give it the same abilities as his Shadow Imitation Technique. Examples of light chakra haven't been given yet For those of you who already have your profile approved and posted, if your profile happens to break these rules, I won't make you change your current jutsu, it was me changing my mind that caused this rule change, and you've followed all the rules, so you're the exceptions. Types of Chakra (Base): The five basic types of chakra. Anything you have is either one of these or a combination of two of them, excluding Jinchuuriki powers.
Fire - Commonly associated with the Leaf Village, fire is well known as the most destructive base element. Fire conquers Wind.
Wind - The invisible element, hard to dodge and hard to block. Wind conquers Lightning.
Lightning - The fastest element, Lightning hits fast but lacks the raw power of fire. Lightning conquers Earth.
Earth - The sturdiest and most defensive element, Earth-style techniques are typically very large when compared to other types of jutsu. A bit on the slow side, though. Earth conquers water.
Water - Fairly general all around, water has no specific strengths or weaknesses, though a strong shield of water is nothing to laugh at. Water quenches fire.
Types of Chakra (Sub-base): Miscellaneous types that anyone can use. These do NOT need to be listed in your profile.
Neutral - No elemental affinity whatsoever. Widely used by healing techniques and other abilities that don't really fit into any other category.
Dark - Sadly, this is not some great chaos power, but merely the type of chakra that shows up in techniques like the Kage Bunshin, as well as poisonous techniques. It has the capability to make illusions and insubstantial things real, if only for a short time, as well as work with seals of various types. Also the Nibi and Hachibi's element, where it is exponentially more powerful. Dark-element techniques are actually quite common, and are a mainstay of many ninja arsenals.
Light - An elemental type that allows the alteration of the senses; Genjutsu rely primarily on this element, as do a number of base techniques such as Henge and normal Bunshin.
Types of Chakra (Dual): Types of chakra that have been mixed by bloodlines or simply by talented ninja who possess the required base elements. Sometimes, these types of chakra are elemental in nature (i.e. Ice), while at other times they are a special ability (i.e. Sharingan). Bloodlines are required to have the two base elements that their clan normally works with. For example, an Uchiha (Fire/Lightning) will never be able to use Water jutsu. Unless he's got the Water Bijuu or some similar override, of course. All dual-elemental powers are innately stronger than base powers, and similarly, Bloodline abilities are stronger than merely mixed elements.
Important Note: Only Elemental dual-type Chakra can be performed by ninja outside a given Clan; special powers like the Sharingan and Byakugan are clan-only.
Ice (Water/Wind) - Stronger than wind by some degree, when in a bloodline ice is actually capable of resisting fire due to the water element's natural resistance. Ice-type abilities are often large in nature, affecting more than a small area.
Sand (Wind/Earth) - An element that allows the use of sand through jutsu. Fairly common in the Village Hidden in the Sand, for the obvious reasons.
Wood (Water/Earth) - Wood is a powerful element that allows the creation and rapid growth of plants. The First Hokage of the Leaf Village is famous for having this ability, and much like Ice-based Jutsu, Wood techniques are typically quite large in nature.
Sharingan (Fire/Lightning) - The potent special Doujutsu ability of the Uchiha Clan. Described further in the Clans and Bloodlines thread.
Byakugan (Wind/Lightning) - The special ability of the Hyuuga Clan. Described further in the Clans and Bloodlines thread.
Demon Chakra: Chakra from the nine Bijuu. As far as elemental power goes, Demon Chakra is capable of defeating anything else in a head-on same-element contest of power. However, Demon Chakra with multiple elemental affinities is weaker than that of Demons with single-element powers, and the last four (Rokubi-Kyuubi) are especially powerful.
Demon Chakra elements are an override to the standard limit created by rank. So, for example, a non-bloodline Genin with the Sanbi would have Water as an element in addition to whatever his/her normal element is. However, the Nibi grants no elemental bonuses, and the Yonbi only grants wind, as Dark and Light chakra are available to everyone.
Ichibi: Sand (Wind/Earth)
Nibi: Death (Dark/Light)
Sanbi: Water
Yonbi: Poison (Dark/Wind)
Gobi: Fire/Wind/Lightning/Earth/Water
Rokubi: Lightning
Kaku: Earth
Hachibi: Dark
Kyuubi: Fire
