I have a couple of piercings in the middle area of the edge on each ear. I've had them for over a year now. They're really sore and irritated all of the sudden. The right one frequently gives me issues, but now the left side is sore. It's probably just from sleeping on my side or getting caught on various fabric/blankets/pillows/whatever.
So my question is this:
If I take them out for a bit to let them heal some, do you think they'll close up? I'd be really upset if they did. I can't afford any piercings right now, and I'm dying to get my nose done, too. D:
And yes, I have been cleaning them like a good girl.

Depending on how fast you heal, I wouldn't take them out for any more than 3-5 days at a time.

I wouldn't take them out at all if you want to keep the jewellery later. It would irritate them much much more if you did that.

Could it be your jewelry? If it was plated, the outer layer may have become somewhat exposed, exposing the cheaper (and potentially more irritating) metal underneath. Or maybe you've developed an allergy to the metal?

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up taking it out for 2 minutes to clean the jewelry and piercing really well. I'd never taken it out before and it was pretty grody. It's sore from the abuse, but looking better already. :3
