I personally am against stricter gun control, and I think we should remove the gun-free zones enacted for schools. The people shooting up schools aren't exactly concerned whether or not they are allowed to have a gun there.

Ha! You have a topic that i had top write an essay about! =D But sadly i had to write about the cons. Guns can’t really kill people by themselves, can they? No, they need help. People who think that they can desperately need a reality check. We don’t have robotic self shooting guns yet, although they would be pretty cool. Accidents always tend happen. You see them everyday; cars colliding, ovens catching fire, but you rarely hear about guns accidentally killing someone. The deaths that do happen are usually the owner’s fault; the most common case is that they forget to put the safety on. People helped modernize the world. You see, if we never had guns, we’d be prancing around on our ponies, shooting each other with bows and arrows. I can see it now: ‘Ride by archery attack.’ People rely on guns for protection. If you are walking down a dark alley, and are being followed, what will you protect yourself with? A wire coat hanger? No! The person following you would scream out “No wire coat hangers!” and beat you into oblivion. Face it. Guns help protect people. It isn’t the gun’s fault for killing the victim; the wielder chooses to pull the trigger. They don’t really have the intelligence to think ‘I’ll kill him. He looks like his life needs to be ended’, then shoot the person, now do they? See, guns give of a feeling of calm for the owner. It makes them feel like they can save themselves if they get attacked. Another thing; there are far deadlier things out there than guns. Bombs, knives, meteors. They all can kill. Intelligence. Although not something that everyone has, it is something we all take for granted. Guns do not have intelligence. They cannot choose who to shoot. All of the deaths that are supposedly caused by guns are actually caused by the wielder; they aim at the victim, they pull the trigger. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. ‘Tis the truth, and will be the truth until the end of time. If a burglar enters your home, would you feel safe with a gun, or would you feel safe with a stick? Our little boom-sticks tend to give us a feeling of safety. When someone tries to attack you, I can guarantee that you’d feel safer with a gun to fight them off with. Doctors are 9000 times more likely to kill you than guns. One little accident during a surgery and you are gone. If a meteor hit earth, we’d all be gone. If you get stabbed in the head, you’re gone. A nuclear war starts. We’d all be dead. Guns aren’t really a threat. There are far more deadly things to be worried about. If parents paid more attention to their children, then the amount of minor involved shootings would increase. You see, the parents should be more responsible. I am tired of all of the school shooting suspects’ parents saying “Why, I don’t know why Kelly would do this. She was a lovely girl.” The parents do know why. They just don’t care to admit it. If guns were banned, how would our elderly protect themselves from burglars or muggers? A knife? I don’t think they’d last for long. But they’d have a cool scar. Guns are safer now then they have ever been. They don’t just randomly shoot people; they need a finger to pull the trigger, and a hand to aim. There are many things that are far more dangerous than guns, so if you want to whine about something, then whine about our recession.
But i do not really agree with the idea that anyone can get a gun. It is simply one of the dumbest things this country has the ability to do. You see, in my true opinion, we shouldn't sell guns to people at all. Only Law Enforcement should have them. Think about it. Many people today are killed with guns, many people today are injured by guns, and many people end their own lives with guns. On the outside, it looks as though guns are the actual downfall of our society, with the senseless retarded murder that happens. Those damn gang disputes are all 'solved' with guns, and robberies and rapes are committed with guns as a threat. C'mon, people, guns are the root of all of our troubles. But they are also the cause of our country. A dual-edge sword, my friends, a duel-edge sword that can blow a hole in your face.

Actually Shale, I AM writing an essay about it for my english class. It's our controversial issues paper. And I agree with everything you said. However, you left out something important. When gun control laws are passed, who abides by them?
The criminals? No, the honest citizens that have licenses to own their weapons. Criminals sneaking their guns into schools to shoot up the population are NOT going to honor the "gun-free zones". I quote from the illustrious Ann Coulter: "From the people who brought you 'zero tolerance,' I present the Gun-Free Zone! Yippee! Problem solved! Bam! Bam! Everybody down! Hey, how did that deranged loner get a gun into this Gun-Free Zone?...Needless to say, Virginia Tech is a Gun-Free Zone-at least until last Monday. The gunman must not have known. Imagine his embarrassment! Perhaps there should be signs." visit www.anncoulter.com for more great conservative writing

Well, to make this short and sweet, don't like guns, think their stupid, I think they just lead to worser things, and don't solve any problems.
And I am well aware anyone can go against that, but its just my opinion because I am not big on violence and the killing, and especially killing of innocent people, and this is coming from someone who has been attacked and been completely innocent. Not one of my favourite topics, but I thought I'd jump in and express my small little insignificant opinion.

Well many times the private ownership of guns leads to decreased attacks. Often merely the gun itself is enough to deter the criminal without shots having to be fired. Violent crimes such as murders, rapes, and armed robberies decreased by around 10 percent in areas that enacted the concealed-carry law allowing citizens to carry handguns.

i like texas' law about shooting people, its something along the lines of if someone is on your property you can shoot 'em if they are facing you. so in texas go on someones property and don't face them, they can't shoot you.
i thought that was rather pointless you don't need to be facing someone to shoot them nowadays they have those corner shooting guns. so yeah this really had nothing to do with guns control but its just a little tidbit my friend who used to live in texas told me

dude mj that's weird cuz I live in Houston, Texas. And yeah we Texans don't like people coming on our property. But those corner guns (which I bet you saw on Future Weapons, cuz that's where I saw them) are not available to the general public.

Ok honestly i don't care if you want 5 guns go ahead, but it's bullet control that we need more of.I will own a gun for protection not for sport but i would want it to be hard to get ammunition, besides we live in an age when we should be able to label every bullet and track it to the buyer within minutes, so we can put people to justice. ON the removing subject from schools, so we should allow anyone to just walk in with guns......to schools.......Thats where you lose me........guns in schools and they can say it's for protection, i mean listen, if we took that off don't you think violence would skyrocket? I mean you say that it doesn't deter them from doing it but by removing it the penalty is alot harsher where its posted accidential firings occur too and in a class thats not good at all.....NO GUNS IN SCHOOLS END OF STORY

Okay, regular law abiding folks get guns by buying them in a store, having them registered, having a license, and getting a background check. Criminals, buy them from dealers, illegally, and non-traceable most of the time. as it stands, both get guns. But take it from the victims, and it is open season! Pepper spray doesn't win against a Tec-9.
