I know what characterization is. Characterization is the author's way of showing the reader a character's personality, life history, values, physical attributes, etc.

But how is that different from character development?

I've always thought that character development is you, the writer, developing your character - getting to know them, so to speak.

It's exactly what it says: you develop your characters to be able to write them better and portray them as even more realistic people. That way, you can use characterization even better in the actual story 3nodding

Think of character development then as a way to teach yourself about your character, while characterization as a way to teach the READERS about your character.

I've always seen character development as the changes in the character's initial characterization. Although ethereal has a good idea about it as well.

That's what I always thought. But ethereal has a valid point.

Thanks, guys. Curiosity is satisfied.
