Planets and Objects in Space

Earth

The Earth is the third planet from the Sun and is the largest of the terrestrial planets in the Solar System in diameter, mass and density. It is also referred to as the Earth, Planet Earth, the World, and Terra.

Home to millions of species, including humans, Earth is the only place in the universe where life is known to exist. At least according to Terran Scientists. Those from the Conquistador know otherwise. Scientific evidence indicates that the planet formed 4.54 billion years ago, and life appeared on its surface within a billion years. Since then, Earth's biosphere has significantly altered the atmosphere and other abiotic conditions on the planet, enabling the proliferation of aerobic organisms as well as the formation of the ozone layer which, together with Earth's magnetic field, blocks harmful radiation, permitting life on land.

The Earth is the home of the Terran Confederacy: a confederacy of sovereign nations that came together in an effort to make headway for the age of interstellar travel. Used to be known as the United Nations, the Terran Confederacy is collectively in charge of regulating outer space as nations signed a treaty stating that space belongs to no nation, yet to all nations.

Yes, in this RP you can go anywhere you want on Earth (even if you are a pirate, but watch out for the cops). Yep, you can go to New York, Toronto, your hometown, Africa, yadda yadda, etc~!


Luna (The Moon)

The Moon (Latin: Luna) is Earth's only natural satellite and the fifth largest natural satellite in the Solar System.

The average centre-to-centre distance from the Earth to the Moon is 384,403 km, about thirty times the diameter of the Earth. The Moon's diameter is 3,474 km, a little more than a quarter that of the Earth. This means that the Moon's volume is about 2 percent that of Earth and the pull of gravity at its surface about 17 percent that of the Earth. The Moon makes a complete orbit around the Earth every 27.3 days (the orbital period), and the periodic variations in the geometry of the Earth–Moon–Sun system are responsible for the lunar phases that repeat every 29.5 days (the synodic period).

Upon it lies The Moonbase. It consists of a large scale research center, places of residence, hotels, a mall, and other recreational activity centers.


The Maldavia Space Station

Run by: Maldavia Inc. and under jurisdiction of the Terran Confederacy

The Maldavia Space Station is a wholly owned subsidiary of Maldavia Incorporated. Its a tourist hotspot and pit stop located in a geostationary orbit around the Earth (meaning that it orbits the same time the Earth rotates.). From there, they have a whole slew of attractions that take advantage of the lack of gravity in a theme park known as Disney Universe. Also, you would have malls and a whole bunch of other nice things.

In addition, the Maldavia Space Station has a bunch of ports for commercial space ships that go to either Mars or the Moonbase.


Space Elevators

A space elevator or lift is a megastructure designed to transport material from a celestial body's surface into space as a way of non-rocket spacelaunch. The term most often refers to a structure that reaches from the surface of the Earth to geosynchronous orbit (GSO) and a counter-mass beyond. The concept of a structure reaching to geosynchronous orbit was first conceived by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, who proposed a compression structure, or "Tsiolkovsky tower." Most recent discussions focus on tensile structures (tethers) reaching from geosynchronous orbit to the ground. Space elevators have also sometimes been referred to as beanstalks, space bridges, space ladders, skyhooks, orbital towers, or orbital elevators.

Space elevators are used to bring people and cargo into space because they are far cheaper than individual rockets and do not pollute the Earth's atmosphere. There are many of these elevators that reach into different hubs around Earth. Some are owned by corporations while others are owned by the confederacy. Pirates would have a hard time getting through Confederacy-owned space elevators so they might want to try paying off a corporation.


The Powersat

A solar power satellite, or SPS or Powersat, was originally proposed would be a satellite built in high Earth orbit that uses microwave power transmission to beam solar power to a very large antenna on Earth. The advantages of placing the solar collectors in space include the unobstructed view of the Sun, unaffected by the day/night cycle, weather, or seasons. It is a renewable energy source, zero emission, and only generates waste as a product of manufacture and maintenance.

The Powersat delivers trillions of kilowatt-hours of environmentally clean electric energy to virtually any location on Earth.


Mars and Surrounding Areas

Mars Station

A space station that orbits around Mars. It has a solar power station, a plaza, a recreational center, a space elevator, and a research station.

However, the Mars station is highly guarded to prevent pirates from interfering with the Martian Terraform Project. Good luck with your infiltration, pirates. xP


Mars

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun in the Solar System. The planet is named after Mars, the Roman god of war. It is also referred to as the "Red Planet" because of its reddish appearance as seen from Earth.

Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, having surface features reminiscent both of the impact craters of the Moon and the volcanoes, valleys, deserts and polar ice caps of Earth. It is the site of Olympus Mons, the highest known mountain in the Solar System, and of Valles Marineris, the largest canyon. In addition to its geographical features, Mars’ rotational period and seasonal cycles are likewise similar to those of Earth.

Mars is currently home to the Martian Terraform Project, where scientists and engineers work on the planet to alter the state of the Martian atmosphere in attempt to create a second Earth that human beings can be capable of living on. In other words, making Global Warming happen on Mars.


Bravian Empire

Granidas

Run by: Arthur Bravia

Located in an orbit around Jupiter, Granidas is the space station where Arthur lives. Its essentially huge and is a black market trading port for anyone. Although they don't care who visits, it is guarded and run essentially by pirates. The Terran Confederacy has yet to try to provoke Granidas.

Bravia's quarters are heavily guarded by robotics and encrypted computer access. His room is huge and consists of a throne.

Granidas is an ever expanding project as well where it can be expanded by attaching spaceships together to create more room for the entire station.


Sebelius

Run by: Arthur Bravia

An outpost located somewhere around Proxima Centauri. Similar to Granidas, but smaller, and it serves the same purpose as Granidas.

Yet again, Bravia's quarters are heavily guarded by robotics and encrypted computer access. His room is huge and consists of a throne. This is where Bravia and his ship, The Excalibur often resides.

Nibiru and the Moon of Cyora

Run by: The Twin Worlds

Nibiru, an ancient world, lies just beyond Centuria in terms of galactic distances. Nibiru is a pristine world of similar composition to Earth, yet has two distinct differences.

One: The alien race that inhabited the planet originally, the Annunaki, have no sense of violence in their genes, thus resulting to a planetary peace since the beginning of their civilization eight thousand years ago.
Two: The moon known as Cyora is actually a giant space station, which lay dormant in orbit around Nibiru until about one thousand years ago.

Nibiru, the home world, is a literally home to a race of archaeologists. Combined with the efforts of the robotic race known as the Cyorans and their spaceships, the Twin Worlds have documented a wide variety of ancient and present alien civilizations and has an extensive archive of all worlds within a vicinity of 5 light-years.

Many of Nibiru’s cities are covered in tall towers representative of the architecture of many different civilizations they’ve found. There are also many parks and museums, showcasing the arts of all worlds.

Cyora

Cyora is all that’s left of a machine civilization whose original sun turned into a supernova some one million years ago. Yes, the Cyorans are that old. The Cyora moon-ship travelled through space until it came upon Nibiru, which had shown signs of complex life. Then, the entire population of one million Cyoran survivors went into hibernation.

Fast-forward about one thousand years before the present. The Annunaki are really hopeless engineers. For one hundred years, they were attempting space flight, if only because they wanted to explore and build upon their rather elaborate museums. Finally the succeeded in building a spacecraft that wouldn’t explode and they reached their target, the moon. Of course, they were excited when they found out not only was it a massive spaceship, but they were also people inside, albeit robotic people. In their excitement, they stupidly only activated the politicians and artists and a very minor proportion of technologists for revival, blocking them out for reviving the rest of the population until they could figure out what to do.

While there were very heated debates between the leaders of the two worlds, eventually, they set up the Twin Worlds and they have been in harmony ever since.
Political System: Twin world leaders elected as representative of the Annunaki and the Cyorans.
Capital City: Xero-Core. A city that was built newly for the unification of the two worlds and has a mix of both races’ technology.

Mars

The geography of Mars has dramatically been altered from what it was in the years past, and is still under a vigorous terraformation process. The air is breathable, the climate is warm, the weather is still rather treacherous with the SNG (Summer Northern Gales) and frequent dust storms from the uncolonized sections. Planet wide there is a 2 inch to three meter deep water body called the Great Martian Ocean, the only dry land on Mars consequently is the Olympus Mons and a few dotting mountains. Algae and adapted Earth swamp flora cover the planet, and there is flourishing freshwater-fish life as well, also adapted or genetically modified to suit the environment.

Settlements are spreading the final stages of Terraformation outward from city centers. The water on Mars is naturally very unclean and dirty, and so a net is constantly extending outward from the Cities to clean it. Otherwise, people here don’t mind the water, and many cities resemble the planet capital, Red Venice. There are rumors that sea monsters have mutated from the altered freshwater fish caste, but no proof, and so Mars has its own urban legends.

Religion includes many Earth faiths, but Neopolytheistic religions run rampant as well. Missionaries seek to unify the recurring theme of three goddesses under one church, and are doing well. Martians are approximately 35% Zelanian, 15% Christian, 40% Atheist, and 10% other.

There are military outposts on Phobos as well, but Deimos is a moon of competitive sports. Because of its low gravity and small circumference, athletes can jump into orbit, and compete with who can circle the moon the most times. The heavy dust makes for a soft landing, and there are platforms with bases extending through the moon to another platform on the other side to give solid launch ground and real estate for many low-grav stadiums.
