I read{[ www.safepiercing.org/FAQ.html ]} that peircing guns can make you sick by putting you in contact with other people's blood because they don't sterilize them and can shatter cartlige. I got my ears peirced 5 years ago with a gun,yes I did have infections but that's normal right? I thought they could use the gun for any peircing, but apparently it's illeagal to use them on anything besides ears.

Well, I say that obviously guns aren't the safest way to go. I have always used guns, though. None of them gave me infections, and I don't have AIDS. So, whatever. And anyway, other than lobes, there is no way to use a gin on other piercings. They don't even do it for nostril studs anymore.

They aren't bad per se, they're just more stressful to your body. Your essentially just ramming a sharp object through your skin, much like stepping on a nail or stapling your finger. With a hollow needle, your piercer is removing a section of your skin. It's less painful and less traumatic, causing the wound to heal better and faster.
