I was thinking about halloween and I thought... I could either A. Be a ninja, B. Go Zelda with my psychopathic friends and never be able to live it down to myself, or C. try the hardest thing ever.
C being somehow dressing as Sabriel.
I think it's pretty much impossible in every way, shape, and form, seeing as how I doubt that they MAKE fabric with keys on it, where would i get a bandolier of bells, and how would i convince my mom to let me do it/pay for it all.
Do you have any ideas on how to make it work?
*sorry if this should go in that chat thread or something, but I think it's really sad that we only have one page of topics, so I think it should be okay, and if a mod is really bothered by it, they can delete it and I can put it in there*
*Michelle.

Actually, much more plausible than it may first seem, if you don't mind being *gasp* slightly innacurate. You could at least pull off a necromancer. step 1: Get a bandolier of some sort. Take some kind of thick fabric (pleather/leather would be ideal) and make one if you don't have one like most people. Use the left over fabric to make some straps. Get some bells, or fake it with something heavy attached to handles/wood things. Step 2: from here on out, it's a lot easier. Get a helment, wrap it in blue fabric. There's your hat. That's what Sabriel did. Step 3: Cloak! Step 4: Medieval dress. Perferably, a blue tunic and baggy blue leggings. It won't look as good as you see some people in, but it'll serve. Personally, I'm going as a Cthulhu Cultist. Go to my guilds and click on "Unspeakable horror preservation society" to get some more on that....

I'm not really one much for costumes, but I think you can do it. I do not see why your parents won't let you spend your money and time on this, especially since you are taking responsibility for it all. Captain Jack said some pretty good stuff. Sometimes you can look at websites, and request a costume to be made. It's cheating and can be a bit of money, but if you don't have the time or dont' think you can pull off the costume by yourself, I'd recommend that. Ebay "Sabriel" or google it or something. If making costumes is your thing, I like what Sporky said (again).

So, I don't think I was quite clear. When I said my mom would be okay with me doing it/paying for it all I meant that I didn't know if she'd be okay with my doing it AND her paying for it all. I don't exactly have a lot of money forthcoming. Thanks for the ideas... though I doubt it'll really happen... maybe next year or something.
I think your ideas sound really insanely cool, Sporky... though last time I tried to use my sewing machine I spent half an hour on the bobbin and it jammed every 4 stitches so I didn't get anything done whatsoever.
Oh and I looked on Ebay for Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen, Garth Nix, AND the Seventh Tower and got nothing but books, so so much for that idea.
I could do it if I wanted to, but I don't think I'm willing to put for that much effort at the moment...

Hey if Raistlin of Krynn can make a Raistlin Majere costume, then I'm sure you can make a Sabriel costume and I can make a Fistandantilus costume! Never give up! wink

As was already mentioned, it seems a fairly simple venture. Though perhaps a little pricy… I'm sure you could skimp a little here and there. We don't celebrate halloween here crying
