I'll try to keep this short. I'm not even certain if many people even come to this forum. I suppose I'm just hoping for encouragement, help, thoughts, ect.
Assuming that the majority of the Gaians here are either anywhere from being teens to older adults, you all may know where we're coming from.
Long story short, my husband and I attended the same church, Eastside way back when, in high school. We had a great youth pastor, that really knows how to relate to teens and he really knew how to deliver God's message.
Well, we moved on to find another church, a place where we could get married as well without being shunned I suppose. Long story short, we were living under the same roof (not the same bed, but that's not the point. It's the fact that we did that seems to be the highlight and reason to shun or ex-communicate your members).
But we found a great church, where the pastor was older, slightly different but knew hot to deliver the message. And you know, we really loved being there despite we were the only people really, our age there. We both became Sunday School teachers there and it was great...until the Pastor stepped down from his position.
And after that, when the man that had married us, took us in, cared for us when my husband was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, we just felt the spirit of the Lord...essentially wasn't there anymore as much as I hate to say it. I mean, we were all alone, with no people our age to relate to spiritually, and the new pastor (and guest speakers) became all fire and brimstone, just really old school Southern Baptist if you know what I mean. They would say contradicting things that we could not follow, or agree with. The rest of the youth drifts in and out, not as big in numbers as it once was, only coming because they are forced (or so I've heard them admit in the halls)
So, we have resigned from being members, primarily to find people more our age, for we are essentially the only Christians in our social network....
We're looking, and things are feeling a bit downhill. Almost like, we're further from the Lord. Though we know we don't HAVE to go to church, that fellowship, you know?
So, prayers, comments or encouragement are welcomed and appreciated. It's tough, and it's a strange transition. And a lonely feeling, in some aspects.
