Did anybody see the '07 film on Jane Austen and her relationship with Thom Lefroy? Praise? Critisicm? I know it's a bit late to post this right now, but still... I personally loved it. A lot. Partially because James MacAvoy is a total BABEFEAST wahmbulance heart , and partially because anything Austen related is just plain awesome. I thought the chemistry between Anne Hathaway and James MacAvoy was great, and that dispite the fact it's a little funny that an American actress is playing England's first lady of romance, Hathaway did a really good job. The music score was great too. Adrian Johnston is an inspiration. The only thing weird about the film is that they made it seem as if Jane Austen would not have written P&P had she not had the relationship with Thom Lefroy...sketchy little detail. dramallama biggrin Anyway. What do you think?

I liked it well enough, because 1) James MacAvoy is sexy 2) the acting was good 3) Anne Hathaway wasn't completely off, even though she's American 4) Jane Austen-ness.
In other words, I COMPLETELY agree with you, burden...!
Also, I love your sig. Edgar Allen Poe is great.

Clearly a love of Austen isn't all the members of this guild share. It seems we all have excellent taste in guys too. wink
It was rather underappreciated by critics, and some fans were annoyed by the liberties taken with Jane's life but I love that movie. I concur with everything already said before, despite how much I value "independent thought". xd
I would, however like to add that the first half at least, is absolutely hilarious.

I am partial to the movie. It wasn't surprising that Anne Hathaway did such a good portrayal, considering how she is, in many ways, like us: obsessed with Jane Austen. mrgreen heart heart Plus James McAvoy is HOT! heart heart Wanted was a great movie too! 3nodding

She's not up in the clouds or too down to earth. She's pretty, quirky and hilarious. I LOVE her.

Yeah, Anne Hathaway is one of my favorite actresses. Did anyone catch SNL when she hosted? It was hysterical. And I'm glad to know she's a fan of Jane too!

Yeah, I'm a pretty big fan of Anne Hathaway...especially her Disney stuff, haha. Did anyone else watch Enchanted? It was great. Oh, and I'd probably explode if I had to choose between Hugh Dancy and James MacAvoy...they're both SUCH gorgeous men...*droooooooool* dramallama Heh heh heh...anyways, I think Anne did musicals before the silver screen. I have a lot of respect for her for playing the role of Jane Eyre heart , which is another one of my favourites ^^. Baha, I talk too much...

I loved the movie, it was amazing. Anne Hathaway is a brilliant actress, and I love her. She's one of the most talented and versatile actresses of this generation, and I like how she can play mature roles while still holding on to that touch of innocence. She's great.
As for the movie, I absolutely loved it. I loved the chemistry between Anne and James, it was brilliant. There are some things that are pretty off about the plot, but I guess that also adds something to it. My favorite scene was during the party, when Tom and Jane were in the garden. Wonderful.
"How can you dispose of yourself without affection?" "How can I dispose myself with it?"
Not sure if those are correct, but I that's what I remember.

Ditto to everything you said. XD And I have to say, I sincerely hope James McAvoy's wife knows she is one of the luckiest women in the universe. XD
I found a site talking about Tom Lefroy a while back, and posted a link to it somewhere in this guild...

Most biographers don't believe so, but it's really hard to say. I mean, even if it had there wouldn't necessarily be any record of it.
It's disappointing how Austen biographers are so inclined to slight their relationship, and even that 'Miss Austen Regrets' program they aired on PBS last year.
I recommend reading 'Becoming Jane Austen' the biography of her life that the movie was VERY loosely based on. The author even admits in the introduction that the movie 'took liberties' with Jane's story.
