Hello everyone.
I've been seriously thinking about medical transistion for a few months now, and although I'm a ways off from being able to do anything (going to see a therapist for the first time on Tuesday, w007) I've pretty much decided that if/when I start, I would like to have top surgery first. My reasons are:
1) I am more dysphoric about my breasts than anything else - they're not that big but they're still there and I definitely want them gone.
2) I'm just a little bit vain, and I don't want to do T first and then surgery later, and have this middle point where people perceive me as either a woman with facial hair or a guy with man-boobs. Just, not.
3) Will not have to deal with hair trying to grow back in during the healing process.
4) This is the important one. Someone told me that if you do hormones after surgery, the incisions will heal up better and you'll have less visible scarring - something about how estrogen promotes healing better than testosterone or something. If this is true then it's a very good reason for me to wait to go on T - my skin is really prone to scarring and I'd want to do everything I can to minimize my scars. What I want to know is if anyone else has heard anything like this and whether it's true.
