After you utter the password, the stone wall you percieved to be imobile shuttered and slides into the dungeon wall. You walk through the new passage way, coming into a large room with low ceilings. There are several large green armchairs by the stone fireplace, and some desks with green lamps and chairs for doing your homework on. You did plan on doing you homework, didn't you? The crackling of the fireplace almost silences the sound of water dripping, as you seem to be under the lake.
To your left there is a corrider leading down and to the left, a small decorative sign above says 'Boys' Dormitories'. And to the right of that is another corrider leading down and to the right, with a similar sign proclaiming 'Girls' Dormitories'.

There is a magical chalkboard on a wall in the common room. No matter how hard you rub on it, the words will not come off. Some mornings writing will appear on it, the head of house presumably charms it on and off.
