July's Issue of Shojo Beat will be the LAST ONE ! ! ! I'm seriously bummed out, because I ♥ Shojo Beat ! I've been reading since the first issues, and I even have a monthly subscription...Don't believe me? Read here: TT^TTQuote: "The final issue of Shojo Beat magazine will be the July 2009 issue which is on newsstands June 16th. We are very proud of the past issues of Shojo Beat magazine and the efforts of the entire team. The magazine developed quite a fan base but unfortunately in today's difficult economic climate we felt the need to place our resources elsewhere at this time. Of course all of our great shojo manga titles previously serialized in Shojo Beat magazine will still be published and available as graphic novels under the Shojo Beat imprint from VIZ Media. Each Shojo Beat Subscriber will be receiving a free copy of the August issue of SHONEN JUMP magazine with the pertinent information on what their subscription/refund options will be."

normality_is_over-rated Wait, is Shojo Beat going to release new series in books?! As far as we can tell, they will still be getting new series for the SB line. At the very least, they'll almost definitely still publish shojo manga, even if it's not still called SB. I'm guessing we'll find out more after this weekend (there's a big con, that I'm guessing will have a Viz panel).

We didn't. My guess is that they weren't getting enough money from advertising. That's how magazines get most of their financial support, through advertisements.

No, but they did announce a few new licenses for the line, so we at least know they're not completely abandoning the SB line, just the mag. They could always talk about it at Comic Con this weekend too though.
But yeah, I think that's probably what the problem was (lack of ads, that is). I had noticed that a lot of the ads in the last few issues were from Viz itself.
