I just found out that David Eddings died yesterday. I'm not sure if anyone is checking this guild anymore, but I thought I'd pass the news along.
Today will be a pretty damn sad day for me, as I'm sure it will be for many others.

So I sent a message out to everybody letting them know. I also asked them to come here to share how David and Leigh's work has touched their lives. So here's my story:
I started Pawn of Prophecy when I was a freshman in High School. So it was about 6 or 7 years ago. Within two weeks I was finished with both the Belgariad and the Mallorean. I went to independent studies so I had a lot of time on my hands. I locked myself in my room and only came out to eat and only slept when I could no longer understand the words on the page. Yes, I was a little obsessed. After I finished those books, I started with Polgara, then Belgarath, and finally the Rivan Codex. I tried reading the Elenium/Tamuli, and The Redemption of Althalus, and I read the entire Dreamers series, and sadly I was unimpressed with all of them. Some would say I'm not a true Eddings fan because of that, but I remain in love with the original Garion books. I've read them several times, and got my friends to read them.
There's only been one person I've met in life who's heard of them- without my help. I was auditioning for what turned out to be my first play at my college, (side note: I'm a theatre major,) and I noticed The Queen of Sorcery sitting on the table where the director and the stagemanager were sitting. The stagemanager was a guy I had seen around for months, but had never really talked to, and when he came back to the table I asked him about the book. He told me it was the first grown-up series he'd ever read and whenever he got sad about life he would read it again and it always cheered him up. He turned out to be my first love and somebody I will never forget. He passed away in a car accident February 2008. It was that series that really made me take note of that wonderful man.
R.I.P David and Leigh. I'm sure that if there's an afterlife, my boy's already chatting you up.

Wow, I can't believe he's gone. It was like he couldn't die, you know? I'm missing him already.
Thank you, David and Leigh, for making things real for me. I'll never forget you.
