Tell us about yourself here. How long you've been on Gaia, the changes you've seen. etc.
I'm Firregani. I've been on Gaia since October 21, 2005 and I have seen the site go from a fun loving community to gold hungry mongrels.
As the years go on, Gaia loses more and more of it's color that used to make it appealing to those who wanted to have fun. Now it's begun to turn into a business site and it looks like Gaia is only interested in making money, instead of making it's users happy.
I remember when Monthly collectibles were something to be excited about. Now they're not. EIs have taken their place and Gaia worries more about the EIs from which they can make more money.
The transition of the marketplace was a disaster as well. Prices were jacked up to compensate for the 2% of sales people would lose when they sold an item. I remember I bought an ancient katana not too long before the switch and I got it for 60k. Now they stay above 400k generally, which is unaffordable to newer members who also want to make their avis look nice.

This sounds like a good idea. Similar to the other guild I'm in.
I joined June 2K7, a touch before they put in the cash shop. Sadly, I don't think I've ever seen the need for money 'cause people to forget what made their contribution so good for everyone who appreciated it so quickly.
Lately, staff seems to be forgetting that people like choices and variety. *sighs* Oh yeah, and that Gaia wasn't created to teach people how to manipulate the marketplace and stocks. >.<

Welcome to the guild! And good point. This originally was supposed to be a community hangout. Now it's more about who has the most expensive items and who can make the most money.

Thank you! Yep, pretty much. I joined 'cause it helped to relieve stress from school and normal life. Now if I think about it too much, stare at announcements etc etc I'm just reminded of how I'm not getting anywhere. Gaia staff has attempted to turn having rare and expensive items into a status when there's no way in heck it could ever really be a status. Tis the basis behind rarity in RIGs.

You're welcome. I joined because a lot of my friends were on it and it was an easy way to keep in touch.
I don't buy items for status. I buy them if I like them. Some things I think are really silly are the people that hoard all of their expensive items onto one avi and it's super hideous lol

I actually found this site through an ad on another site. Joined 'cause I was bored, and stayed 'cause of the reason I previously posted. Most people definitely do not buy items for status. People spending $20-$30 on RIGs aren't spending that much money for the status. We want our items; the majority of us at least.
Oh gawd! I used to do that. Trying to fit in and crap. X_X I realized a little while ago that cheaper avis with one or two expensive things look so much better than avis full of expensive items. Unless they're things like skins, eyes, makeup etc etc.

I'm fatalbeauty, been here long enough to see the many changes that the site has been making over the years and long enough to know when they go against their word....I've seen my little site where I knew a lot of the people go to "WE WANT YOUR MONEY! but if you don't have money, we don't need you....."

Hello everyone!
I worked for a very long time for AOL, and when they were hit with a law suit by staff personnel, they decided the didn't need any remote staffers anymore. So, with a brand new computer and oodles of time on my hands, it was suggested to me that I join Gaia, by someone who has been here since '04. That was just Sept 08, and I was hooked almost instantly.
If you see me online, don't be afraid to say hi. =)
