We Have Had It stated exactly how I feel in her Naked Protest thread:
We're upset about how the monthly collecitbles are s**t now but they spend so much time coming up with Cash Shop items that you either have to buy with actual money or spend 100k on when they first come out.
The other thing is that Phin and Phang is a cash shop and you either pay out the a** on MP or use actual money, for fish that are going to die!

Hahaha, call me spiteful, but I make it a point not to see or buy anything Gaia promotes. I've done this ever since Mimzy.
I used to buy each donation item, like a ritual, two per month. They were awesome. But then once the money-grubbing characteristics of today's Gaia emerged, I stopped.
Aquariums is something made SOLELY TO GENERATE CASH for Gaia to sit upon like a throne, and I am AGAINST THE ENTIRETY OF IT.
Actually, the only things I do on Gaia anymore are guilds. Those are still free, and you can't be bothered by non-members~ =]
Once Gaia starts charging for that, too, then I'm out.

if gaia started to charge for guilds, i wouuld quit its one of the only free features i like.
the Cash shop frustrates me. non Ei, non RiG, cash shop items dont even get announced( go check it out they have orange dashing gentlemen stuff)
PHin phanG. its dumb, paying money for something you dont keep no thank you. it could have been a nice gold sink. you should have been able to use the fish you catch

I do agree, that the donation letters... no wait, COLLECTIBLES tend to be more and more horrible. Some of them are still great though, and I hope for them every month, buying 2 letters. If there is a great item in one of them, I might get one more. Only hapened once though.
Aquariums are fun, I really enjoy giving my fish names, play Booty Grab and spam the subforums, but... I'll never spend my cash on fish who are gonna die. I played Booty Grab for 3 days to get my aquarium filled with halfway good fish. Before that, I had to settle with ordinary free fish, which they do not/barely give out in Daily Chance anymore, forcing people to spend cash on them, if they want to keep their aquarium alive. I would have loved to use the gold I got while playing Booty Grab on other stuff than fish, but as stated; I like aquariums, and thus spend it all on the marketplace, paying insane prices...
I buy Evolving Items *haha* Not from the start, as I had to look at it to see what it was all about. But when I found out, that they were actually better than the collectibles, I started buying them. If I don't like their evolution, I can always sell them on the marketplace for some serious gold, which may be sad, but still better than dying fish...
Actually it seems, that all major problems on Gaia right now, all relate to one single word: CASH.
The worst thing they did with cash were the recent 'offers'. It's sad to see, that a site hosting so many young and naive players, go and make deals with other sites you cannot trust. They did say, that you should read the small text before signing up on the other sites, but why offer this service, if you KNOW there's something fishy about it in the first place?
Now, I do not mind spending a little money to support Gaia, since they did, and still do, update some good stuff that do not cost cash to have fun with. But I refuse to use cash as my main payment here on the site, and I will never support other cash shops than the original one, since they only offer items that will expire or be used up anyway.

I agree on the DIs, I used to buy two a month and hell wear them too....now I just go ew at most of them and I haven't worn a single one of the newer DIs in years...

But musicians paint their pictures... On Silence. I couldn't agree more. Not all of us want to go out and spend our real money on a website, especially one with bad security where people get hacked ALL THE TIME. There are so many better things to spend it on.

i agree, the whole cash thing was a bad idea from the very start, not for the owners of gaia mind you, but for us regualar gaians, who can't really afford to buy the gaia cash.....
all these promotional items are just just cluttering up the marketplace, not really worth anything, and they have let the main parts of gaia fall apart, such as the towns, shops, clothes, and games. hell, half the time, i can't even get on jigsaw and play, because it refuses to save and freezes when you try to....

The last monthly collectible I bought was the one I have on right now, the Grizzly Hoodie. I will buy an envelope when they start selling them in the Cash Shop but when they are release, if I don't like them I just sell the envelope.
I'm a big fan of the Aquariums but I do wish that not everything in Phin Phang was only buy-able with Gaia Cash. I do miss getting a Cuttlefish or Goldfish in the Daily Chance every other day. I ran out of those a couple weeks ago and have yet to get once since.
I'm guilt of buying Gaia Cash several times a month. I bought a $10 card last week so I couple buy the Midsummer Swirl Bar Bumble. Though every time I buy a bundle I always save a few to use a little later on down the road so I have something so do or sell for some gold when I need it.
I really want to have more events so you can get event items. I love those and keep all the ones that I've gotten since I've joined. The prom was a disappointment for me, I think I only did one song.

I dislike it too. But the reason being that the Gaia Cash Shop and phin Phang shop isn't needed. Gaians who work hard to earn 100K or 200K will happily spend it on a item they have been looking forward to, but it doesn't seem quite far when you can just throw a few dollars at them and get the item instantly.
Now others may say that "Oh, but the creators of Gaia need money to work the site!" This may be true, but seriously. Putting up advertisments should be enough since the people pay them to do it! The advetisiment did not bother me one bit, if I didn't like them then I simply wouldn't click on them.
But now they have added these, "free offers for gaia cash", (which by the way they are NOT free offers, most of them are scams that require personal information)... and the new aquiruim feature, which would be a lot more enjoyable if the items were only buyable through gaia cash and through the marketplace (It's true you can buy some cheap fish, such as the gold fish, but more expensive ones can cost many thousands, and I'd rather not pay for that since it's going to die in a matter of weeks.)

adding to the "free cash offer" comment i have a great virus protection but even with it i still got many viruses. INCLUDING A KEYLOGGER
gaia has become so money hungry they stopped caring about the users

Coming Soon: The Gaia Cash Shop
We've been working on the concept of a Gaia Cash store for a long time, and we're almost ready to release the first version. For many years, we've offered just one kind of virtual item for sale at one price: Monthly Collectibles for $2.50.
We can't even count the number of times we've had a cool idea for an item, but thought "that's way too complicated to be a Collectible," or "that's not quite complicated enough to be a Collectible." With the release of Gaia Cash, we can be much more flexible. The Gaia Cash Shop will let us do a few very interesting things for you guys:
• Release special items that cost way less than Collectibles (many Cash Shop items are 25 to 50 cents). One Gaia Cash card could last you a long time!
• Release special items that are even more crazy and complex than Collectibles (some Cash Shop items might cost more than $2.50).
• Release premium items that are available for more than a month! It may sound obvious, but we've never done it before.
• Create items that have magical properties and do crazy things (for example, items that evolve over time or potions that give your avatar a new skin).
• Create a system to send "special occasion" gifts to friends, like wedding dresses, birthday presents, etc.
• Sell Monthly Collectibles in a simple Gaia Store interface, so you don't have to go through the whole purchase process rigmarole every time you buy one.
The Gaia Cash Shop won't replace Monthly Collectibles, normal Gaia Gold stores, or our regular free item updates. It will just let us get way more crazy and creative with the items we offer, and it'll give you something to do with that Gaia Cash that's been burning a hole in your pocket
