Diana is a friend of mine. She speaks Portagese, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and English. Why? Because she has to. Born in Brazil to Chinese Parents, moved to America.
She learned the basics of English from a book. Then she went to the store, picked up a copy of "Charllote's Web", and read it. Side by side with her dictionaries and books.
I'm using this to help learn Gaelic and was wondering if others wanted to try this experiment with me.
We find a book.... One that is simple yet with a wonderful economy of words... Read chapter by chapter this way.
If more people are interested, I'll actually start up a lesson plan. Could somebody who is already fairly fluent help run, maybe come up with some questions at the end of each chapter?

That sounds like an interesting idea. I tend to learn languages better that way. ^^

I could post a few stories from some Irish school books ^_^ I mind a bunch of kids, ages 7 8 and 12, so I could use their books.

♔ I'm up for it! Count me in! What book to buy?
And if Miss_Chicken_Royale is reading this - I think that any kind of group exercises, tests, and HOMEWORK would help immensely. I may sound foolish here - but honestly, think about it. Why do children get more of learning languages? I doubt if it's just the fact that they have more places to store the information their learning. That may be true, but I believe it's just the creative way school's teach this. Plus, it'll be fun - I'm sure of it. Just an idea, nevertheless.

Perhaps we should go with, instead of a book, an Irish Folk tale. Just a few pages long....

Agreed. Doing exercises, tests, and homework have helped me immensely with the Japanese language at school, and I understood the language a bit better than I used to when I tried to self-teach myself Japanese. Same with Spanish in high school. Now with my native language, Vietnamese, I go to a school for it, but they haven't done anything besides making us memorize how to spell Vietnamese words and write one-paragraph essays about our daily lives that would make me understand the language better. I Think You Can Get Like Kids Stories In Irish If Ya Google It.
You Can Get Them Straight From The Books They Use In School, Might Save Alot Of Typing Up And Such?
Well I Think You Can Cause I Had To Get My Little Cousins English Poetry For Her And Found That I Could Print The Whole Book.
