The color. The white.
The white literally blinds me now. The blue also blinds me.
I used to have perfect vision, until the forums were changed to colorless white. My vision is slowly declining since most of the time I'm staring at this screen. :/ I need glasses now.

Yeah, that's why I try very hard to add color to the dull b/w avi's everyone uses. Gaia mean earth...so shouldn't it have an earthly color scheme?

I was about 14 years old, maybe 15 when I built my first website, for a school project, and the first thing the teacher said was "Get rid of that white background! If you want it to look white, use a light grey instead, so that you won't blind your visitors. Grey is better, and no one will notice the difference until they realize their retinas are not burning off."
He also told me "Never use lime green text on a black background, and never use a font face lower than size ten." but those bits of advice don't apply to Gaia...yet...

I remember when the usedto have blue boxes around people and there was thouse colourful trade friend and pm buttons even that made it less blinding

I don't like how cutsey it looks. It's nauseating, and it hurts my eyes. I'm already nearsighted, and I don't need Gaia coming along to screw it up more. :/
And I agree with Suiiki, using a light grey, or any other color for that matter, would help reduce eye strain. Plus aesthetically speaking, it looks a hell of a lot better.

I've turned down the brightness on my computer and changed the Gaia Labs screen to narrow. The background helps some but I'd like to have different muted colors instead of white. *Missed the white wings and the pale blue theme they once had*

Every two hours you should take a break from staring at any screen, as starting at any screen kills your vision. I'm an example of someone who doesn't take the breaks, and my vision is decayed enough that now I need glasses too. ><
But I do agree the purely white background gets really taxing. I never like bright displays anyway. My desktop is at like 25% Brightness and my '08 year laptop was only ever at the lowest setting. I can't deal with the blinding contrasts on some sites or here, the pure white =w=;

I was slowly being weened off tinted lenses, I find it very very difficult to read black on white so I have blue-violet tinted glasses to help me read. Gaia is not helping matters with it's glaring white background, it's halted the progression. I did raise this issue, or tried to the first time they changed it. Looks like they don't give a crap about us folks with eye troubles.

About the only thing I can suggest, there is a thread here called better Gaia, its a firefox addon that will change the look of Gaia for you, I think they even have background options.
