I solemnly swear I am up to no good. Debate whether you think religion is beneficial, or destructive. For example, some people think religion will end up being the reason the whole world dies...maybe some huge war. And some people think it's something people need to live.
I think it's just pointless, and it's possible that disagreements over religion could result in war(s). I just don't see why we need it. Discuss.

i disagree. religion is a way to convince yourself that your short life on earth isn't the end it's a result of insecurity over death.

manda the worm i disagree. religion is a way to convince yourself that your short life on earth isn't the end it's a result of insecurity over death. I have to agree with Manda. Which is why the majority of religious people are uneducated or ignorant; what they don't know scares them. Not to say that educated people aren't afraid of death because they know what's going to happen, I just think they have a tenancy to accept it. Neither am I saying that everyone who is religious is uneducated or afraid, just the majority, especially if you look at it regionally.

I do not believe that religion is pointless, at all. Though I must admit to being far too free spirited to have one. I believe that religion was created as a means to remind people of morality, self control, and restrict us of certain things hierarchy deemed wrong. To instill fear and hope, keeping the masses under control and content.
It's both beneficial and destructive, depending on how you interpret things. Take Hitler, for instance. Whoever uses religion as a reason to go to war just wants an excuse people will be able to relate with.
Don't get your knickers in a twist if you disagree, thats just my opinion.
Had to chop that down quite a bit... Hope I can still get my point across like this, but if not, I don't care. I understand myself.

Religion is what keeps us in check, people who believe in God or Buddah or whatever is what makes them feel secure, that there will be an after life after death. Also people have a high sence of morality, we usually hold back on our inner ID because of religion, if we didnt this world would be more ******** up than it is now.

TOOL: 'Third eye'
"Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening and terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are or where we are going in this ocean of chaos it has been the authorities, the political, the religious educational authorities who have attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulation, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and put yourself in a vulnerable open-mindedness to inform yourself"
To me, religion is a way of putting us into a open cage. We choose to go in and choose not to leave, This cage is religion. As long as we are happy and content in our cage made of belief and thoughts we are slaves to the church. What happens when you die and there's no heaven or anything you believe in? You wasted your life, and say it all is true and I go to hell of some other place, well at least I had fun while I lived!

I'm a Christian, but I'll be the first person to tell you that, in many ways relligion today is very detramental. It's become twisted and warped and it's more of an excuse for prejudice then it is 'relligion' even in countries like the U.S. A great example is the 'main stream Christian' [Which, btw, I am NOT one of] who pretty much shun and outcast people who follow other idiologies or have other moral standards. They also use it as an excuse for prejudice against people of different Christian denominations! The Luthrens hate the Catholics, and the Catholics and Baptists hate everyone, and etc., etc. I'm not saying every Christian does this, as I said, I'm Christian, and I know I don't. I'm very open to other religions. As a matter of fact, I have several close friends that are currently or have previously followed various faiths, it just seems that people are becoming more and more closed off and their not willing to evolve and change in much of anything, really, including religion, which is one thing that should most definately be in constant flux as time and the things in it change. Great example of what happens when it doesn't - the Middle East.
