The Fire Emblem series began with its Japan-only debut on the Famicom, Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryu to Hikari no Tsurugi (translated "Shadow Dragons and the Blade of Light" in Super Smash Bros. Brawl) on the continent of Akaneia, where stories are told of the hero Anri who defeated the dark dragon Medeus with the divine blade of light, Falchion. A hundred years later, shadows began sweeping the continent as Dolua rose to power under a resurrected Medeus. At this time, a young prince of the kingdom of Altea was exiled from his home by Dolua forces. Garnef, the Dark Pontifex, stole Falchion from his father and killed the king. Prince Marth retrieved Falchion after liberating the continent and recieving the Fire Emblem from Princess Nina. After a hard battle, he defeated Medeus.
