Okay, i just watched the end of the series, and - Well, i have a few questions about the gate.
First of all, when someone dies, do they go to the other side of the gate, or do they kinda get fed to the void in between?
I ask this because Ed didn't really die, he was just sent to the other side. Same with Envy.
My second question is, what is with all this 'alter' bussneiss. I know there's an alter Gracia, and an alter Alphonse... but is there an alter Ed? Did he die, and then become the alter Ed, just with the memories of the other one (or something, if you get what i'm asking)?
I'm asking because i alway thought that when someone died, they went to the other side of the gate... but then i find out about all these alter people, and it seems that no one that died on the Alchemy side is really on the other side... that really they're all alters exsept for Ed and Envy ( and Honenheim? (sp?)
So... what's the deal..?

gomen gomen..I don't really look here leeeeeeeeeeeeet's seee
I think you got a few things confused sweatdrop See when Ed really did DIE from ENVY he didn't go to the other side. It is in episode 51 that he is outside the Gate..He sees Al and then Envy and Envy goes to get Hohienheim..Ed wakes up to see Rose..Al has revived him..Al is no where to be known. It's just what we always think, we go to a 'heaven' i guess you could say (the background was yellow).
Um, Ed did have an altar one..When Dante forced him through the gate, his soul only reached the other side INTO the altar. Remember the soul to the person there asked "Who are you?" Yeees....that wasn't Ed's true body. It was still in the gate. Hohienhiem's world is our world, plus he is over 100yrs old, his altar is dead by now! >.> Same thing with Envy..Envy is OLD TOO..no matter which side he was born on..the opposite side he would be died.
And the altars don't die if the others do. Like Hughes for an example, he appears in the anime on our world..so yeah

I know most of that, actually.

When i said Ed didn't really die, i meant in the end when he was sent to the other side. I knew that Ed died when Envy killed him.. and i got all that and such. I understood all of 51.
I think i just missed parts of 50... sweatdrop -
But thank you... that clears things up.
