It was, in a word, mediocre.
I really, really liked Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween. My main problems with this film:
1. It seemed like a series of random kill scenes strung together, with no rhyme nor reason as to why Michael Meyers has chosen this person. None of the violence really advances the story at all until the very end of the film. In the first film, you'd see: "kids wander into old Meyers house, Michael is there, so he kills them" or "Laurie goes into house then leaves, Michael goes in there and kills everyone." In this one, you see "Laurie and friends go to party, Michael kills one friend and boy outside, and then LEAVES." I guess the party was boring.
2. Parts of the film just feel "strapped in"...there are scenes that show Loomis that have nothing to do with the rest of the story...the movie spends about 20 minutes dealing with Loomis interacting with a variety of people, then he only gets involved in the main story for about 5 minutes, in a spot that any throw-away character could have done.
3. Sheri Moon Zombie was in the movie WAY too much. She would have been more effective without any speaking role beyond the intro part. You'll see what I mean when you see the film.
4. Rob Zombie seemed intent on focusing on more gore for this film. Part of what I like about Michael Meyers is that he kills quickly and efficiently. His purpose is to kill, nothing more. In this movie, watching him spend a bunch of time sawing off some guy's head with a broken piece of glass made me think, "now why the HELL would he be doing that?"
Wait until it comes out on DVD. This movie SUCKED.
