Thoughts on this? I personally think it sounds good since it's nearly impossible to issue commands or ask questions while attacking stuff. On the other hand, I can't really use it at night or my parents will notice. ^^;

Personally, I love the idea. I spend all my zomg time buffing newbies, and one thing I tell them.... "you type, you die." This way I can give assistance and not expect them to type a response!

My only issue is I have to upgrade my Firefox, and I don't wanna. =P Oh well!

I like the idea too. Hands-free is the one thing WoW started off on the right foot with, though as a (supposedly) lower-level MMO, zOMG doesn't really have to do this.

Think its affecting performance, though. My zOMG now takes FOREVER to load, and runs like molasses (i.e.: it doesn't run). That, and much of the latest update is kinda crappy. The target window is now more useful, but it looks ugly and chunky. Same goes for the chat window (well, the chunky part at least).

And, what's with those hypernet boxen? They look totally out of place and redundant.

My performance is still pretty good, it does have a slower time and all. but i do enjoy the new voice chat. Problem is, it's only for crews. that was a bummer seeing as you can only have a crew of 6. and it doesn't help with people who have lots of friends.

I guess even the Devs didn't want people screaming "LYKE OMG I NEED A DEFIB WAAAAAHHHHH BOO HOO I DIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DEEEEFFFFIIIIIBBBBB MEEEEEEEE NOOOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!" xD

The crew panel is super huge and takes up the entire screen, the targeting box is super huge and takes up a 5th of the page. It's great to know these things and to monitor these things but it's harder to see XD

Again, this whole smash em thrash em run in guns blazing attitude you don't really need to see. You just need all the AoE's and run into a group of animated throwing all the AoE's and pressing the ~ key in between the targets that survive.

Hypernet is their new tutorial system. Pretty much, N00b help. n00b where to's what not's where to go's and next step's? idk. it's just in game help

Personally, I think it's completely pointless. People already have to deal with noobspeak cluttering the chatbox, why now make people listen to it. I've already given up on zOMG long ago. If I want to play an MMORPG that allows me to choose whether or not I want to deal with listening to everyone talking at once, or just talk to my guild or group, I'll stick with WoW thanks.

Is it really so hard for Gaia to come up with any original ideas on their own?

I dunno. It kind of sounds like a good idea but at the same time it kind of sounds bad.
I don't play zOMG. For one, it freezes my computer, and for two, it sounds kind of unoriginal from what I saw some people write.
But if I did play zOMG regularly, I'd have to buy a freaking microphone. I don't feel like wasting the $10 on something so useless.

You don't need a microphone. They still have the chatbox to type conversations like before. The microphone's just a way for hands-free communication.

I understand that. But with this voice thing-y, you'd need a microphone.

The really sad thing is, zOMG's nowhere near as fun, big, interesting or popular as WoW. WoW was truly groundbreaking, even when that evil disease bug broke out it was a pretty cool psychology experiment.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery, but a lame imitation only makes you look stupid (and desperate - I realise that I use this descriptor on Gaia quite frequently nowadays, but that's only cos its true.)

Well, I've never played WoW before so maybe that's why I enjoy this so much. xp

And now that I finally got my mic thingy to work it's really fun! The only trouble I can see is that if there are people in crews without 'em they might be a bit...excluded.

You don't need a microphone. if you download the voice chat thing, you will be able to hear what is being said.

You only need a microphone to: communicate by using voice you would still be able to hear Person A say something and have Person B type out a reply.

The second thing is that:

Headphones plugged into the microphone jack = Suckiest microphone out there. But it still works. You just have to have your LEFT Earpiece completely against your mouth and speak loudly, precisely, and clearly. biggrin

You'll never find a headphone that I'll put my mouth against. Ever (not going to elaborate on the physics behind digital sound and why it works but not so well). And the whole "crew" thing is becoming too much the focus of everything...but more on that in another thread.

Still, this IS a step in a good (I won't say the right though) direction, but the implementation is shakier than a plate of jello in Toyko during a Godzilla attack during a Richter 7 quake. Plus, here are a lot more noisy people in zOMG than WoW.

Ha ha, yeah the updates have made zOMG! rather glitchy lately. They're going to need a few days to shake those out.

Weird though, I've never crewed with more than two other mic users at a time (and thankfully it was a girl and a guy so yeah). I am pretty curious about how crazy six people talking at once would be. confused
