The day was in the midst of becoming night, in the twilight stage. a cool, dense fog drifted lazily through the forest, being dispersed by a single lantern. A dull golden glow, the man, Hector, travelled down the forest path from the small mansion he lived in alone. In one hand, a handle which held the lantern; in the other, a large woven basket. Not far were the ruins belonging to the once magnificent Castle of Azure Skies, it'd been quite some time since anyone had known what that place used to be. Hector walked slowly, taking his time to enjoy the journey he took every so often, when he was in the mood, and had the time.

There was a soft noise up ahead, barely noticeable really unless you were looking for out of character sounds. It wasn't exactly natural, a human sound, a girl's soft yawn. Gentle and sweet as the rather petite figure it came from. After another long and peaceful day, Estrella was in her usual place, her home behind a large rock that sheltered her from the wind, the perfect place for her campfire which she was currently working on getting lit.

The man, in his late 30's, stopped and took a deep breath. The usual pleasant scents surrounded him, everything seemed so clean and somber at this time of day, the perfect time to clear the head. "I certainly should try and do this more... I never regret it" He looked around, and noticed the fog was certainly thicker than normal, it was then it hit him, "Mm... which direction was it again.."

Suddenly the girl stopped what she was doing, she could have sworn she heard a voice but that was impossible. Frozen she strained to listen for anymore sounds as the man looked about him then muttered again. It was a voice! She was sure of it.... What to do? Carefully she crawled towards the edge of her haven formed by the rock, her long legs bare and smeared with a bit of dirt as she used them to try and move silently as possible. But it was of little use as her golden hair emerged from behind the the rock, then her big brown eyes framed in thick lashes and a rather simple air of innocence, last to be followed by her nose. And there he was! A man! He looked rather... clean! With a loud squeak she hid back behind her rock, her heart pounding in her chest as she stared ahead of her with wide eyes. What to do?!

"Hm?.." The man turned in the direction of the squeek and raised his lantern. An animal? I don't remember any making those sounds around before He looked around again, "well...I could either stand here and continue to be lost..." He took a step forward and headed into the brush, snapping twigs and brushing bushes and branches out of the way, towards the area where he'd heard the sound.

The girl stayed frozen behind the rock, her palms pressed flat against the cold stone while her heart pounded in her ears. What to do?! What to do?! Then to her horror she heard him coming closer. Closer! She could run, he sounded a bit clumsy. But he didn't look like those type of men. The bad men she ran from so long ago. But she only saw him for a few seconds, maybe if she took another peak she could determine if he was a bad man or not. Taking a deep breath she gathered up her courage then poked her head out again, only to bump right into his leg.

The man's eyes widened as he looked down, "What the-..." He raised his lantern to get a better look at her. At first he was surprised, but it quickly turned to concern. "Are you alright? What're you doing out here, you must be freezing." He set down the basket, which contained hot tea and warm bread-rolls, and the lantern on the rock and squatted down. "are you lost?"

With another albeit louder squeak she fell back, holding her head not out of pain but out of fear that somehow having contact had burned away all her hair. Rubbing it carefully she discovered that in fact her long hair was intact forcing her to open one eye and look up at him while he showed what appeared to be concern causing her to relax a bit. Opening both eyes and letting go of her head and straightening back up she dusted herself off just a bit before speaking. "I'm not lost. This is where I live." She said simply, and although clearly she was a young woman her voice was soft and tender, almost childlike as she looked to his food rather hungrily.

He stared blankly at her and blinked a few times, "Uh.." He looked around for a house, a shack, anything that would be used as a place for someone to live. "By live here you don't mean... /here/, right? There aren't any other homes around here aside from mine. Most people tend to stay away from the ruins." He looked at her, and noticed she was staring at the basket. "oh! I'd just prepared this for a little snack on my way to the ruins actually...um.."

Sniffing the air lightly she couldn't help but to groan softly as she smelled bread. Warm delicious moist bread, So sweet and good it'd melt in her mouth, if only she could have one little... Blinking she looked up at him as he seemed to be speaking to her. Wrinkling her nose just a bit she gestured to the rock behind her where a neatly folded blanket was tucked away and a small hole lined in ash was her campfire along with a captured skinny little chipmunk she had managed to snare during the day and was clearly preparing to cook for dinner. "I know they do... that's why I chose this spot." She says with a bit of laughter patting the ground beside her for him to sit, immediately deciding he was not a bad man and thus warming up to him instantly.

he looked at the ground, then to her, and then moved to look at where she'd pointed. He narrowed his eyes and wrinkled his nose, then, turned around, readjusted the lantern so that it lay between them, and sat on the rock near them. He opened the basket, took out a silver plate and a large thermus, and another smaller basket, its top wrapped in a cloth, which contained the rolls. "Right, and, how long have you been living here?"

She watched him quietly re-arrange himself taking note that he didn't want to sit on the ground near her. She understood that sentiment, it took her a long time to get use to it as well. Looking down she blushed then moved to cover her dirty limbs. Yes she was often covered in a bit of dirt but she wasn't a complete savage and bathed herself after the messy affair of eating in the nearby lake but the man had caught her before she had the chance only adding to her embarrassment. "How long?" She murmurs softly, squirming until she was satisfied the largest of her dirt spots were hidden, "Oh... since spring I suppose."

He handed her the basket of rolls and replied, "Since Spring? So a month or so..." There was a bit of awkward silence; Hector wanted to press on, but he was also wary. Just then, the ground began to shake beneath them, it was a slight earthquake. Hector stiffened a bit and braced himself, it only lasted a few seconds; the castle ruins were nefarious for having slight tremors now and then. No one knew why, nor did they seem to care. Well, aside from Hector. "just a small one.." he stated off-hand.

Estrella's immediate reaction was to scarf down the basket of rolls as quickly as she could, her stomach did audibly growl but fortunately the small tremors hid that or so she hoped. Instead after the tremors were over, which by now she was quite use to, she carefully opened the basket and pulled out one roll as daintily as she could before handing the basket back to him with a smile. "Thank you." She chimed before ever so politely nibbling on the bread, taking small bites, not speaking while she chewed until all too quickly the bread was gone. "Yes about a month. I figured when it got cold I'd...." Her voice trailed off as she looked in the direction of the castle before she let out a soft chuckle. "Well I'd either gather up my courage or freeze to death I suppose." Tilting her head and smiling up to him she added rather hastily, "My name is Estrella. A pleasure to meet you Sir." The dirty little thing wasn't a complete savage, she was determined to make sure the man with the silver plate understood that much.

Hector smiled, "My name is Hector, Hector Grizwald, of the Grizwald Estate, not far from here. I'd thought I was the only one that lived here, but...my, this is certainly a pleasant surprise. A pleasure to you meet you, Estrella." Hector looked into the fog that was now lifting, in the direction of the castle. "They say it's haunted you know. Or more specifically, cursed. Supposedly it's the source of the tremors that happen here, I've begun investigating them as best I can." he paused for a moment and looked back at her, "N-not that I believe in ghost stories, it's purely academic." He grinned.
