So here's an idea I've been kicking around for a while: Will Dany Stormborn's inevitable invasion succeed? At first glance, this seems to be utter rubbish; it is Danny we're talking about, right?
1) Martin's history in the SOIAF series is highly consistent of the history of the world. The map(s) shown are clearly a slightly modified version of the America's; perhaps more cut down, if anything.
2) The Seven Kingdoms? The different colonies in the beginning of the Americas, which are combined into a single, cohesive unit through bloodshed and waring. Also known as the "War of the Usurper."
3) Seven Kingdoms happens to be on the conteinat of Westeros.
4) The Targaryens? They're the evil British empire, over-bearing and sometimes mad.
5) The King's Hand is clearly the vice-president.
6)Lord Littlefinger is Alexander Hamilton.
7) King's Robert, Tommen, and Joffrey are metaphors for Cyrus Griffin, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams respectively.
cool The Others (and this is my favorite ^.^) are the Cannocks.
9) Valryia is the Roman Empire; it's doom is the Barbarian hordes that sweep down from the mountain tops to destroy them utterly and then inhabit the word.
These are just the biggest ones that glare out at me, whenever I read the book; no doubt there are more. Now, if you'll recall your high school history class, England tries a number of times to re-conquer America; all of which fail miserably. Will Martin stray from History's path once more and have one character succeed and the send the others to hell? Or have them all come onto some kind of odd and boring compromise? What are your thoughts? Will Danny win out in the end?
