I agree wholeheartedly. The point is that the Federal Government cannot give out relief aid for every disaster, nor for every person disabled or in poverty. The growing cost of these programs will result in an increase in governmental power over the people. The passage of the 16th Amendment has led to a dramatic increase of government revenue and spending. FDR's reforms will inevitably further bankrupt this nation. We must return to a government that provides no programs and does not regulate the economy. The government has only increased costs by doing so. Centralization of power leads to fiscal irresponsibility and will destroy all economic prosperity in this nation. The government simply cannot run charity and defend this country, there is not enough money in the world to do so. Eventually, we will no longer be able to borrow such vasts amount from other coutnries. We are destroying wealth for the sake of providing services amd relief. PEOPLE ARE COMPASSIONATE!!

DAMN STREIGHT, finally people who understand, okay yes it was a tragedy, BUT YOU STAYED THERE, not OUR faults. And Bush... don't blame him, he isn't racist, he has two black people on his cabinet in the highest positions FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country"-JFK (god rest his soul) why do I need to be compassionate for people who are just guna mooch off the country, we already sent you billions, try looking at that, WAKE UP AMERICA, and lets not play the blame game. "O there were no busses, blame Bush" ********... CITY BUSSES!!! Try asking your mayor! Wait he's black, you can't do that. We are in the 21st century and in the north, and most of New Orleans is African American, so don't try pulling the only people getting help are whites. Did you know that more than 53% of the homeless are white, rest is broken down. So guys, please look at yourselves, your "gangster selves" and take a good hard look, ya that pathetic drop out who didn't bother in school and thought it was cool to get high, go on drive bys and get expelled, look at what it got you, don't blame us for your sad mistakes. (This is only aimed to those that could have led a path to a better life, not those who really couldn't)

Absolutely! I am a compassionate person, but the government has no right to steal from one and give to another. I think we as a people should bond together to provide relief, but the government oversteps its bounds by giving "Aid" to these people.

I agree to an extent, the government needs to give some help, we can't have hell breaking loose, the federal gov did need to send the National Gaurd. But as to reliefe, no... hell no, that is for the state to prepare its citizens for. The federal government does not need to be pointed at here.

Yes, and the governor has control over the State National Guard, the President is above him, but the State can use its National Guard in times of disaster.

So me and another friend were talking and I said New Orleans shouldnt be rebuilt because it will just happen again. She got mad,but the point is they werent lazy, that city was the home of one of the biggest partys, they were pretty rich if you ask me.

Drewser DAMN STREIGHT, finally people who understand, okay yes it was a tragedy, BUT YOU STAYED THERE, not OUR faults. Wow Drewser, you never cease to surprise me. You do know that alot of the people who did stay was because they simply had nowhere else to go and were impoverished as is? Sure, more then most happened to be black, which can be attributed to multitudes of reasons, but this does not excuse that they were poor, had nowhere to go, and a lot having no means of escape. Drewser Did you know that more than 53% of the homeless are white, rest is broken down. Actually, 41% of American whites are homeless, as opposed to 40% African Americans according to the most recent census survey. Though, this is of course considering the the population of whites in general is much higher then that of blacks. Thus, by numbers alone, blacks have more homeless the whites. Percents are relative. Drewser So guys, please look at yourselves, your "gangster selves" and take a good hard look, ya that pathetic drop out who didn't bother in school and thought it was cool to get high, go on drive bys and get expelled, look at what it got you, don't blame us for your sad mistakes. (This is only aimed to those that could have led a path to a better life, not those who really couldn't) This is just sad Drewser. A sad and weathered attempt to justify your irrationalizations. It's sad that you assume all those who "fail" are "gangster." It's sad how how you think they all get high and go on "drive bys." And finally, it's sad how you try to bring it all around by justifying who your saying this to. When really, you've no idea if they could or couldn't bring a better life to themselves. Oh well, at least in the end, you realize that not all people can.

Well, I somewhat disagree, I think that they should be given some assistance, especially because it was the GOVERNMENT OWNED LEVIES THAT BROKE and did most of the damage. Far more then the hurricane did. And it was found that it was in large part corruption that allowed the levies to break. So in large part, while one cannot blame the hurricane on the government, one can blame the broken levies on them and hold them somewhat responsible. Just like if there was a privately owned lab that caused damage to the surrounding area when it blew up, the owners of the lab would be expected to pay for the damages that they caused. Now I am not saying they should have a free ride, But they should be compensated for what they lost due to the broken levies. The federal government should also help the state in funding rebuilding efforts through its disaster relief agency, since that was its purpose. (roads, schools, clean up, etc)
