Daein Crimea Gallia Serenes Forest Kilvas Phoenecis Begnion Goldoa Hatari
A strange light has engulfed the continent, turning all but a few living things to stone. In Daein, Sothe and Edward of the Dawn Brigade manage to meet up and go to Nevassa and the Keep to find Micaiah, but it turns out she's in a town at the border. It's unknown if she's unharmed or not. The boys decide to head for Crimea and find Queen Elincia and Commander Ike.
However, near the border, they are attacked by a flock of large birds resembling the Hawk and Raven Laguz, though their feathers are tipped in gold and no matter how long they are in their animal forms, the never shift back. The battle is soon joined by Soren, the tactician of the Greil Mercenaries and a close friend of Ike's. Out in another part of the forest that became their battlefield is Oscar, another member of the Mercenaries and the older brother of Boyd and Rolf. Neither Soren nor Oscar have seen Ike in some time. Before they leave the forest, they also find Aran, a soldier who had helped the Daein Liberation Army. Sothe becomes sort of a "leader" of their ragtag group.
Out in Gallia, Skrimir, the next in line to become king, and Ranulf, a commander in Gallia's armies, are investigating the light, hoping to find a cause. As they make their way into Crimea, they find Celeste, a wandering halberder, and the three of them meet up with Sothe and his group.
Out in Hatari, Volug, a wolf laguz and a servant of Queen Nailah herself, is patrolling when his comrades are petrified, and he decided to seek out allies on the main continent. It doesn't take him long to meet up with everyone else. Though the addition of new allies is a good sign, the growing numbers of both Beorc and Laguz creates tension, especially among the Branded of the group. They are eventually joined by Tibarn, the Hawk King of Phoenecis, and they reach Melior, the Capital of Crimea. As they reach Castle Crimea, an archer by the name of Harmony nearly shoots Sothe but is stopped by Tibarn. After both she and Sothe figure out that the other isn't a threat, they join together.
Before going into Castle Crimea, the group starts debate about where to go next, and the top two canidates become Daein and Begnion. However, tensions between races are still tight, sparked further by Sothe and Soren's different views on multiple subjects, and eventually it seems the group is beginning to divide between the Beorc and Laguz on one side, Soren and Celeste as the Branded on the other.
On another side of the continent, Sephiran, also able to take his former identity of Lehran as a result of the Herons' songs, goes out from Serenes Forest and to Sienne, the capital of Begnion, to check the Tower of Guidance where the goddess used to slumber as a part of her Thousand-Year Judgement. He is unsure of the cause, as he doesn't find much evidence in the capital.
Eventually the group led by Sothe decides that they need to put aside their differences and focus on saving the continent. With that, they enter Castle Crimea to find Queen Elincia and the Royal Knights. While the rest of the group talks of plans and strategies, Edward strays off from the group and heads toward the gardens, feeling that something's wrong. Sothe, followed by the rest of their team, follows soon after. Edward discovers that Elincia has been turned to stone. They all have their different thoughts, but generally they all feel the same grief; this discovery was bad news. Finally realizing just what they're dealing with, they decide to head for Begnion and the Tower of Guidance.
Once they leave and make their way back through Melior, they find Raevynn, a cat laguz though she was raised as an assassin in Daein. She joins them out of respect for Skrimir. Edward greets her and quickly introduces everyone, and Sothe bonks him on the head and apologizes for his immaturity. Edward soon retaliates, and tensions heat quickly between them until an all-out melee breaks loose. Though the others want to intervene and break them up, most agree that the fight was between them and needed to be settled however they saw it. Most of them left the two to decide for themselves. Sothe slices across Edward's left arm, but he pauses briefly when he hears Volug speak their modern language, and Edward strikes across his abdomen. Sothe insists he'll be fine and begins walking, but soon the injury takes its toll and he falls unconscious, leaving Edward a wreck of guilt. Raevynn and Volug use an Elixir to try to heal him and Raevynn passes it to Edward, but when he uses it, it doesn't heal him as much as it should.
Out in Kilvas, Leanne, the royal Heron princess of Serenes Forest, slips away and discovers the stone Ravens. She quickly makes her way to Serenes Forest and discovers that others are alive.
Back in the main group, Sothe regains consciousness briefly before passing out again, but Mist, Ike's younger sister and a member of the Greil Mercenaries, catches up with them and uses her staff to heal him. Sothe finally wakes up and the group is able to continue their journey, but soon they meet up with another, much larger, flock of the birds they'd fought off before.
Over in Serenes Forest, Haar, a Dracoknight from Daein, discovers Leanne and offers to help her, when another young man, a Branded of the Herons named Phenanaka, appears. A smaller flock of the birds attack the small trio. Phena and Haar defeat them while Leanne does what she can though she cannot fight. After defeating their enemies and figuring out the flock was headed in the direction of Crimea, where Sothe's group was coming from, Phena insists he has something to show Leanne. Once the two of them go deeper into the forest, he reveals that Lorazieh, the king of Serenes, had been petrifed. Leanne, her heart heavy with grief, sings the Repose of Souls for her father. Haar, somewhere else at this time, remembers Jill, a very close friend of his also from Daein, and stays put until Phena finds him. They hope the forest will protect Leanne and leave to defeat the larger flock.
Sothe's group of survivors isn't doing very well as they are heavily outnumbered, and decide that the trees of Serenes Forest should provide some cover. The group is divided, due to the fact that Serenes Forest is a sacred place, the former home of the Heron tribe. They decide to keep to the edge of the trees, hoping to keep damage minimal.
Back inside the Forest, Leonardo, an archer of the Dawn Brigade, is running from a few of the stragglers from the flock, and takes shelter in a bush. Hearing Leanne's song, it lulls him to sleep. Leanne soon finds him and decides he needs the rest, staying with him until the sounds of the battle come uncomfortably close.
Haar and Phena meet with Sothe's group and do everything they can to take out as many birds as possible. Leanne soon appears as well on the edge of the trees, using her Galdrar to aid her friends and allies.

In Serenes, Leanne's singing and the chaos around her has exhausted her, and she retreats for the time being, aided by Volug and Skrimir. Once she's sort of alone, she sees a lone archer in gold armor. He lights an arrow, and shoots it at a tree. The flames begin to spread, and Leanne, horrified, races back and tries to tell her allies to retreat. She is aided by a mage named Alex, who takes her and leads the rest of the group to his home and helps them recover from the battle and the fire.
Celeste realizes that Zelgius is nearby, and sets out without a word of explanation to find him. Raevynn follows, and soon Volug and Sothe come as well. Zelgius tells them to leave or they'll be killed, but Celeste won't listen to reason and attacks either way. Eventually Volug gets her to stop and she decides to retreat, but Raevynn still stays to fight.
Elsewhere, the injury Edward got during his fight with Sothe has apparently gotten infected, causing no end of problems for him. Leonardo offers him an elixir, but he explains how they tried one earlier and it didn't help much. Leonardo talks him into trying again, and after using it, Edward tells his friend about their finding of Elincia.
Near the burning blaze that was Serenes Forest, Kiria, a young multi-talented Wolf Laguz, finds her old friend Harmony, and the two promise to travel together. Harmony tries to explain the situation they're in.
